America has slept long enough. We've dreamed of peace, we've dreamed of good relations with those who hate us, we've even day dreamed and had pipe dreams but nothing about our dreams have prepared us for the awful reality that much of the world dislikes America. Add to that the undeniable fact that some of Americas' citizens hate America and what she has stood for for most of 200 years. Our freedoms are being spirited away right from under our noses by misguided individuals who believe that freedom of speech and freedom of religion should be governed or curtailed completely. Thus we're becoming complacent, hitting that snooze button and sleeping ourselves into oblivion or captivity. Tolerance has replaced love. Jesus said to 'love your enemy,' but we are told in America now to tolerate our enemies. Thus we tolerate the bombings of U.S. Embassies and ships and military convoys because, in many minds, we shouldn't even be over there anyway. Folks, I'm no military strategist but I know that reducing our military budgets and numbers, plus allowing a liberally biased media to call into question every move our soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen make serves to demoralize them into desertion and other bad choices. 'War is hell' as we have all heard and it will never be prettified, no matter how much we try. Anyone who believes that by civilizing warfare things will be ok is sadly mistaken. America is on the verge of literally being 'run over' by forces fiercly dedicated to victory. Forces to whom life means nothing. If you don't beleve that look at all the suicide bombings being used by terrorists throughout the Middle East and the world. Yes, our immediate lives have been interrupted by the war in Iraq but our long term lives will be effected and determined by the outcome of said war. Instead of stepping back and resting on undue laurels we should be intensifying our strikes and finishing what was started so long ago. And remember we didn't start it. We've slept far too long, It's time the sleepers awake and take back our destiny as the greatest nation of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. James Rudinger

YES WE NEED OIL, as without this oil this country will surely go down. Those that remember the long gas lines when Nixon pulled the boys out of Nam, will remember what followed when the gas prices rose. We have never recovered from that! But it was better than paying what most European countries were paying than , not now. Then they were paying over $4.00/gal. But then, again,I can't help thinking about what Orwell warned us about in his book "1984". The T.V. screen would show us a face of a man that we are supposed to hate and we would go into a hate him and kill him frenzy. Then without any justification, we would go to war against a different bad guy, and the media was to repeat the same peocess all over again! Again and again! It seems that everything else that Orwell had warned us about is, also, now happening! I think that it is time for everyone to reread "1984" and Animal Farm. Both were written by Orwell. He's the one that wrote the phrase "Big Brother is Watching". Read both and then give us your semi-educated comments, as things will look a lot clearer then. The political science teachers at an Indiana university that I attended in the 60's made these two books MANATORY READING FOR THEIR CLASSES.

What do you propose we do with our troops that are already there in Iraq? Nuke them too? Or pull them all out in 48 hours (alot of countries involved here)so we can nuke? I think the bad guys might sniff that one out and run to Syria. I have nothing against using nukes but we should have done it before the current war. You know, put a message on al jazzera TV. Something like, "We are going to nuke your country. If you are innocent of terrorism run, otherwise all you tough guys hang in there. We will meet you in Bagdad with a little surprise." And then the world could condem us from the high place where the world opinion sits. Meanwhile we kill millions of innocents. It just doesn't work. We need a better solution. I don't claim to know what the solution is but I know it isn't nukes. We will never win over the middle east. We are infidels. NOTHING, not money, not food, not mercy will ever change that fact. Their religion does not allow tolerance. They are taught to hate at a very young age in school. Just like we were taught math. It is ingrained in them to hate Jews. Jews are the reason they live in the mud, Jews are the reason their countries are not world powers, Jews are the reason for anything bad that happens to them. Jews are not the problem here. The Arab culture is our biggest problem. We have a massive hurdle to jump. How do you overcome an entire culture who's history dates back 1000's of years? I can't sharpshoot our president because I don't have an answer either. I do know this though. We need to come together and stay together as a people in order to win this war on terrorism.

Yeah, great Bush hit Iraq, but where is Osama? The one who flew planes into the twin towers? I think it is great that he is trying to rid the world of all this BS, but for crying out loud. Sleeping Giant. What did we do the last time someone woke us up, Hiroshima, Nagasaki. I think it is time we did it again. Speak softly and carry a BIG stick. Now use that big stick and beat the tar out of them. No mercy. They have not had any on us. He is going in the right direction as far as that goes, but it isn't enough and he hasn't got the balls to do what needs to be done. The other thing he needs to do is to take care of us. Oh, say, like my damned job going to China. I would like to keep my job for another 30 years.

Youíre all fired!! Yes, our entire Congress and Senate, you are all fired! You used to be noble statesman and farmers who came together to further our nations good. You have turned into a bunch of Politicians furthering your own causes. YOU ARE ALL FIRED!! No more pay raises, no more life time pensions. YOU ARE ALL FIRED!! WAKE UP!! WAKE UP FROM THIS SLEEP AMERICA! Our senators and Congressmen are worthless to us. Not the idea, or the institution, Iím talking about the scum suckers we have elected as Congressmen and Senators. We need real people, with real values. People who donít do it to pay for their expensive vacations, or their Yachts, or their kidís Harvard education. We need, people that do it for us, the masses. People that do it because they believe in America and itís people. I suggest we stop paying our politicians! That would go over like a fart in church, with much more stink than you could handle. Then, letís see how many polititians stay with it. I bet most of them would bail like rats on a sinking ship (because that is what most of them areÖrats. Living off of you and me) At least then we might get some honest folk elected into the game. People that do the job because they love this country and what it stands for like our founding fathers. Not some self serving, kick back taking politicians. Iím mad, as Iím sure you can tell. Iím mad at our politicians and Iím mad at us for letting it get this bad. Iím mad at myself most of all. I have not been politically motivated in the past. I have not voted in a long time. I aim to change all that! How many of us can say what the founding fathers said, ďI pledge my fortune, my honor and my life to this countryĒ. I Know I donít have it completely right on the quote (donít beat me up about it) but Iím close and the same idea applies. I donít have any fortune to contribute (other than taxes) but, I am a soldier. I have pledged my life and my honor for the survival of this country. So before you Monday morning quarterbacks start back biting me, ask yourself this. What have you done for your country, and what have you pledged to ensure our survival. Nuff said. I am amused at the lack of any understanding by some of the writers. Some have the good sense to use this as a NON PARTISEN site, while others can only see one side of an issue and if you do not like what they say, well to bad. We should remember we are Americans first. One of the biggest problems in this country is most people will not open their eyes and see how ALL of the politians have lied to ALL of us!!!! We have term limits for a President, thank goodness, the same should apply to all members of congress.

I truly think we are at war also. There are so many major issues with terrorism and not enough people doing anything. People are too interested in where people should be able to smoke a cigarette or other similar insignificant issues. If there was enough attention given to terrorism that are given to the smaller issues, I think we would be a much healthier county. We are too interested in having what our neighbor has or pointing fingers when things are wrong. People need to look at the bigger issue. Have you ever seen the movie "Red Dawn"?

THE ONES THAT DONT RUN AT THE FIRST CHANCE AND NEVER MIND ABOUT THEIR BUDDIES. THEY WANT TO GO BACK AND HELP THEIR BUDDIES.. IF KERRY GETS TO BE PRESIDENT, I FEEL SORRY FOR US. HE'LL JUST PUSH THE OLD SNOOSE BUTTON, AND GO BACK TO SLEEP.LET THINGS DRAG ON, TILL WE GET ANOTHER PRESIDENT WITH THE GUTS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE TERRORISTS. This morning is the anniversary of 9-11. Had to share my feelings about a guest C-Span has on Washington Journal. The guest is a law student (what else) going to Yale. He has founded an organization trying to promote better understanding between the west and Muslims. I know C-Span has to air all viewpoints, but I was getting madder by the minute watching. Heard a couple of days ago that even a media group in Saudia Arabia published an article, saying that while not all Muslims are terrorists, all of the terror groups are Muslim. And commenting about how that reflects on their society. Thats a start. Our 9-11 did not occur in a vacuum. The attacks on us had been occuring for years prior, we just didn't respond or react to them. Then 9-11 occured. Culminated by the most recent attack in Russia. Attacks have been occuring all over the globe, how about Spain as an example. So I think the world by now is slowly and sadly beginning to understand the Muslim society, and what that picture reflects is not pretty. Other than that one article I heard quoted the other day, how much of an outcry do you hear from the "peaceful" Muslims in the world? So, just as with all the other madmen who have proceeded this threat, I think we should follow our own precident of WW2, first you annihilate the madmen, "then" help restore their society.

Political party did not matter, we wanted to keep our country free. We write and give our opinions, but do we take the time to read about each person running for any office? Do you vote party or do you vote your conscience? Or do you even take the time to vote? If we do not learn from history, we will repeat it over and over again. Yes, we remember that before Pearl Harbor we had a ostrich outlook on all this. Just hide our head and hope we aren't the ones who are attacked. I commend Bill Clinton for treating these malicious acts as a crime as they are all that and more. However, going to war with a country who has been proven to have had nothing to do with Al Queda attack on 9/ll is not the way to fight terror. This is a universal problem that needs to be addressed by the entire world..We did not need to shoulder the brunt of this problem on our own and get involved in a war that in effect we were never going to win...We are going to have Americans in Iraq for at least 5 years...Where was the team in this administration that should done as the prior administrations have and come up with an after the war plan that rebuilds a country without loss of life...We lost no one in Japan and Germany... Remember VietNam....we weren't allowed to call it a war back when, it was a conflict.. Iraq is a conflict you can't go to war with a country that did not commit to war with us...Yes, they don't like us well I don't like Iraq either but a long time ago the Man said they were ways to settle problems without death....Remember Him, he is the one all the right wingers pledge to follow in His Bible. This is all a bunch of BS. As long as our borders remain open, we remain vulnerable. Instead of spending billions trying to figure out how to guard every bridge and building in the country, we need the Guard and Reserve on our borders, and we need to go through the country and find out who is here, what they are doing here, etc., etc.. Otherwise, it's like closing the barn door after the horse is out. I know a couple of these "homeland security" people. They don't do much, and they get paid a bundle. I have since seen each and every attack played out on TV,or reported in Newspapers. I have researched each president and contender since I turned 18 (I am teaching my girls the same) taking my vote seriously and not voting party, but voting with a clear conscience to the canidate who is most like my views on the most issues. Do your homework and compare your views before your choice is made. There will never be all aspects of a canidate's views that are liked but just go for the majority of your views. Most important....DO YOUR HOMEWORK.......RESEARCH....RESEARCH....Kerry's record scares me just go to his own website and look it up (what he says now) then look at his voting record. What you told us needs to be shared everywhere in America, and it needs to be on the front page of the newspapers. People are so self centered and want to do "their thing"! God has been so long suffering with America. We need to humble ourselves and pray and seek God's wisdom. God is still sovereign, and He is giving America a chance to be great once again. We have taken and removed God from almost everything, that this country I love so much was founded upon. And we will pay a great price if we don't wake up and turn once again to Him for guidance and wisdom. God bless you for taking this action to let us know. We need to pray for our president and all our leaders daily, that they might we wise, strong, and determined in the decisions that they make. I am praying that God's will be done in the election. He knows who should be in leadership, and whoever it is, we should pray for him. Please, God, continue to bless America, and help us have the strength and courage to come back to the basics that this great country was founded upon. I love America!!!

Hatred will never conquer hatred. Yes, there have been many psychos over the years who have attacked the United States, but the enemy is a mind set not a specific nation, making conventional warfare and retaliation bound to hurt a lot of innocent people as well. Terriorists have been sending their people to the USA as sleepers and those same terriorists have never stopped planning to do more to the USA than ever because for some reason they hate Americans. Our Country was established by some great men and never has freedom been free their is a price. Wake up America, Hawaii was attacked on 12/07/41 and yes an angry giant was awoken, the United States of America. We have gotten lazy and let our guard down thinking that no one would actually attack us on US soil. Hawaii was a US possession not a state when attacked but the attacks on 9/11 was the first attack where american blood was shed on our own soil. These terriorists do not care about life, family, freedeom as we know it and they are willing to give their lives for their belief that God will grant them many benefits in heaven. We have a country that was started on founded on our belief "In God We Trust". Many men and women are fighting for this country to stay free and keep the terriorists out of this country, support our troops, watch around you and notice the sleepers the terriorists have planted here, help keep our nation free. Support our troops as they fight to keep the terriorists overseas and not in the USA. This is a new war as President Bush has stated and yes, it is being fought totally different than any war our military has been in but they are adapting to the terriorists ways and fighting them. Please don't give up on our troops, pray for our troops, our country, our President and it's leaders that they will have the answers to what our country is facing. Look up and let God know that we need him, we need his help to keep our nation free, and we need to let him know that he is the founder of our country and we will never forget that.

I cannot believe the naivety of your readers. Your factoids are one sided and less than thought provoking. It is unfortunate that you have no clue about Wubya's war. He has already declared victory and assured our countrymen that we are no longer at war, but in the process of handing over a nation to our prescribed "legitimate leaders". Apparently your readers do not have an understanding of the Declaration of Independence, nor the beliefs of my forefathers that we are a peaceful nation. Thomas Jefferson (yes, the author of the Declaration of Independence)stated it would be arrogant of one nation to usurp the powers of another and make the rude assumption that one nation's form of government would set a precedent over anothers. "[We would be] guilty of great [error] in [our] conduct toward other nations [if we endeavored] to force liberty on [our] neighbors in [our] own form." --Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Mann Randolph, Jun 24, 1793. He further stated: "Wretched, indeed, is the nation in whose affairs foreign powers are once permitted to intermeddle." --Thomas Jefferson to Benjamin Vaughan, 1787. Jefferson believed in the right of the individual person and the collective people to determine government. Jefferson stated "I am for free commerce with all nations, political connection with none, and little or no diplomatic establishment. And I am not for linking ourselves by new treaties with the quarrels of Europe, entering that field of slaughter to preserve their balance, or joining in the confederacy of Kings to war against the principles of liberty." --Thomas Jefferson to E. Gerry, 1799. I submit to you: Does our current foreign policy remotely resemble these words? I think not. The United States of America engaged in a first strike against a country for none of the reasons initially stated by our President. This information, after minimal scrutiny determined that there were no weapons of mass destruction, there were no credible threats that Iraq had the fire power to engage in a war with the United States, and finally a congressional inquiry proved that this President and his spin doctors contrived this regretable faux pas. I agree that America needs a wake up call, however it is not the one you are suggesting. The inalienable rights of our citizens are being whittled away by anti-terrorism acts such as the Patriot Act which violates the fourth, fifth, sixth and fourteenth amendments. Finally, your site asserts that if a person does not support Bush, then they are not supporting the troops. Where on earth did you get that idea? I have supportd our troops since the Vietnam War (another first strike faux pas). I am a patriot and I believe in the country our forefathers seeded to produce a nation of freedom, liberty and justice for all in this nation. You could say that I have a vested interest as my son is servings our country on foreign soil, as did my father, husband, and uncles. As you say: "wake up" and see the erosion of rights of American citizens. Get away from partisan politics, and clean up the mess on American soil before we arrogantly assume to bequeath our politics, religion and 'big stick' diplomacy on others. Hey, have a nice day.

This is a powerful site that says it like it is... The author of this article is absolutely correct. This is not only a war, it is the most dangerous kind of war, a war that is driven by religious fanatcis who will stop at nothing to spread their poison. I am a retired police officer who has worked in city and county government for over 30 years. I am still working in a public service role where I deal with citizens on a daily basis. The "liberal" attitude that seems to be taking over the world and our own country is rapidly contributing to the demise of "life as we know it." I have witnessed our society's slide away from all of the vaues this country was founded on. Our jails are bursting at the seams. Drug addicted "Crack babies" are being born into environments where there is no hope that they will ever have a future. Our world is rapidly evolving into one in which a larger and larger portion of the population is of opinion that society owes them a living. No one has to take responsibility for their own actions anymore. Blame it on mommy and daddy. Fake a fall and file a civil lawsuit to recover a large damage settlement that raises everyone's insurance premiums. If that doesn't work and you can't get the things you want through welfare just go ahead and steal them. If someone gets in the way just kill them... Society has to provide you with a free lawyer to defend you. I hate it when we have to be the "Poiceman" for the rest of the world because they are hung up on being "politically correct". The rest of the world knows that we won't abandon them when the chips are down. That allows them to bad-mouth us in their mis-guided attempts to appease the terrorists. The only way the United States of America will be able to survive in the current liberal "cover our eyes and look the other way" attitufe of the rest of the world (if it isn't too late already) is to fight to protect ourselves. The radical Muslims have pledged to spread their religion and control world-wide. The Muslim clerics have a very active ministry in our prison system. They use the same proven approach on the this segment of our society that is used to recruit terrorists in their own countries of origin. "You have no future in this world, therefore you will get your reqards in paradise, don't be afraid to become martyrs for Allah. The only way that this terrorist situation will ever be resolved (if it is poassible) is to send them all to see Allah and find out for themselves if their mullahs are telling them the truth. Looking the other way might work if we were an island completely isolated from the rest of the world. Unfortunately in our present world where airlines can make it across the Atlantic in a matter of a few hours that approach no longer is a feasible option. I thank God for presidents like Ronald Reagan and the two George Bushes who had/have the balls to say it like it is and back it up with action. Veryl Morrell, Minnesota

Yes, wake up! As an average person our job is to ask ourselves? Am I the cause of any terrisom? Am I guilty of hurting anyone? Do I love my neighbor? Do I love myself? Am I kind to everyone? Do I hate people, places, and things not like ME? So much is out of our control. The only person we can control is ourselves. Our thoughts control our actions. Do we do as we say? Can we honestly do the "right thing" when we only want for ourselves and our country? Think on these things and do what you can do--be kind to one another, try to understand the reasons why the world hates the U.S. If we walked in their shoes would we feel the same?

I agree with you that Americans have to wake up and stop pushing the snooze button, but I don't agree that the events you stated (although true )justified our administration sending troops in to Iraq. Espesially since WMD's were never found and the connection to Al Quidaand 911 and Sadam were never substantiated. I would respect our current administration if they had not wasted their time and distracted our attention from one of the most important matters which is the American policies and selfishness of our citizens that have negatively effected our neighbors. Yes, we need to wake up and look in the mirror to see what part we play in the whole scenerio.

America needs to take a serious look at it self and how its government has being acting throughout the world. Most citizens of America are peaceful loving & very genors people, so why are we hated so badly? When you can answer that question honestly & unemotionally, it will be easier to bring the troupes home & keep them home for good.

I am an angry American! I watch with horror the fact that almost half of the population of this country is blind. I am sickened with the realization that one of the political parties in this country is so power hungry, that they will stop at nothing to regain power, even if that means leaving us totally open and defenseless against those who wish to kill all of us, Democrat and Republican both. I am stunned at the debasing comments and slander directed at one of the greatest patriots this country has ever had. President Bush is a decent, honorable, brave man. He understands that evil can not be appeased. It can only be confronted. He dares to do something for our country and to defend us, when other politicians can only mouth platitudes, and change their positions with every wind of convenience. A truly brave man sees the evil and takes risks to confront it. Bush knew that what he was doing might not stay popular with the public. He knew that an election was coming up. He clearly say the danger to his country and put his career on the line to do the right thing. He took risks. He put his country before all other things and his duty to us as citizens before his personal ambitions. Do you think Kerry would do that? Do you remember how you felt when we first went into Iraq? Do you remember the feelings in your breast of patriotism, and the ferver of justice about to be satisfied? And now, when the going gets tough, you can't stay the course. Of course this isn't going to be easy. Of course it may take a long time to win it. Who has the greater determination to win? The terrorists who are willing to die for their cause? Or the wishy-washy Americans who can't even remember what 9-11 was about and realize that we are at war with an implacable, motivated enemy with no regard for life or the things that we hold dear. You can't reason with a religious fanatic. You can either kill him, or be killed by him. There is no negotiation. And as for the deaths of Americans in Iraq... When was there ever so celestial a thing as freedom that did not require sacrifice to maintain it. Do you think it comes Free?? It always requires a price. Usually measured in blood. The brave soldiers that are in Iraq now, and that continue to enlist in our armed forces understand this principle. The are volounteers. They aren't being sent against their will. They wish to defend our country. They are willing to put their lives on the line and risk all for our sakes. They are the best of us all!!!! This People is shameful. Where have those who pledged their lives, their property, and their sacred honor to the cause of freedom gone??? Have you forgotten what this country is about? Is peace and security so prized a possesion that you will allow it to be taken from you a little piece at a time for the deluded perception that the terrorists will go elsewhere if we just leave them alone? We were leaving them alone. They have been at war with us since 1979!! When will we understand that and come together as a people committed to defending our lives our nation and our sacred freedom? There is no choice! There is only victory or Defeat!! Which will it be? I don't know about you, but I am voting for Bush and straight republican. They seem to be the only people that have even a glimpse of what is necessary to win this conflict.

This is a wonderful site. We should all be proud to be an American. There is much hate and strife within America. We are too busy fighting amongst ourselves to see what is happening to America. America divided is America lost. We have to pull ourselves together, we are all Americans even though there are many Americans here of different origins, different faiths. We all honor the same God just in different ways. One of our biggest enemies is the ACLU, because of them we have blocked prayer from our schools, taken religious symbols from our court houses and governmental buildings. Why? We bow down to their complaints and do what they say. Are they the ruling majority? Let's get it together America, if we do not we will all be speaking a different language within a few years, Freedom will be a thing of the past. We simply do not realize how good we have it these days. Wake up America!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I found it enlightening that the events leading up to this point were chronicled in such a concise way. It IS scary how many attacks there've been against us. Whatever their perverse reasons, there's certainly no shortage of people in the world who hate our American guts. And yep - we've certainly been asleep at the wheel. We care more about whether Janet Jackson shows a breast during Super Bowl - it's ridiculous what we as a nation obsess over. A lot of us have gone back to life as usual, but personally, not a day goes by that I don't remind myself of 9/11 and the fact we're at war and I wonder if my teenager will eventually go and fight in it. It's deeply disturbing to me; it tears me up inside and invades my sleep. I supported the war initially when we went into Afghanistan and I despise Osama bin Laden and Al Quida. Last December as I stood before what was once the World Trade Center, an anger welled up in me that I can't even begin to express. But we still haven't found bin Laden, which is hard to believe -- surely we have the technology and espionage capability to "smoke him out" by now, so where is he? If he turns up just before the election as some are predicting, I will go out of my mind with anger and finger pointing at the White House. That would be just too bloody convenient. But for now, I just gotta believe that our leaders wouldn't stoop that low. Do the people who predict such things and make these accusations about Bush honestly hope they're right about him? We'd better hope to God that they're way off base! I saw Fahrenheit 9/11 and if even a fraction of what Michael Moore says in it is true -- then we're in seriously deep doo-doo! I also initially supported Bush's decision to invade Iraq, as the news media convinced me that Saddam had WMD and was gonna get us if we didn't get him first. How I wish we could've found stockpiles of them and been right about that hunch - or whatever it was. It's embarrassing that we've come up so empty-handed. And again, if they suddenly uncover some stockpiles right before the election, I'll be highly suspect of the Bush Administration. And the problem is, now we're looking really bad in the eyes of the world for invading a country that did not directly attack us and we do not have the support of powerful countries in the world. The "coalition" is a joke; our troops are doing the majority of the fighting. We even had Saddam for 6 months and what'd we do? Gave him back to his people to deal with. You watch - he'll seize power again and we'll be right back to Square One for the umpteenth time. Then again, where Iraq is concerned, we DID go there and start that one. Did we really expect not to suffer American casualties? Ummm, this is not a Hollywood movie where all the heroes live and only the bad guys die. Once we blow through our video game-style air campaigns, our ground forces are left with the real world dangerous missions. I do support them, I salute them and wish they'd all come home alive and real soon, but realistically, I don't see that happening. I'm not even gonna comment on Bush versus Kerry except to say that personally, I'm not sure either person is the ultimate answer to this nation's woes. The fact that they even WANT the job makes me question their sanity. It's a shame our nation is so sharply divided and sadly, this election will be even uglier than the last one. As a Floridian, I'm bracing myself for another sham of a 3 ring circus here and being the butt of the nation's jokes again. Then there's the threat from a certain far east nation, which could be worse than what we're involved in right now. Sheesh! why can't we all just stay home and behave ourselves? I'm thinking: if there's no other "intelligent" life out there in the universe, then mankind is definitely a poor excuse for being the only one.

Interesting information and as I read some of the posts, I have learned from some, been amused by some. My thoughts go back to our attack on Japan, and I think the "sleeping giant" needs to revisit that war tactic. We are dealing with terrorists, more in our country than we "little people" know about, and I agree that we need to close our borders, send the muslims back to their own countries, why are they here? Because America is a better place to live, of course, or is to infiltrate our security? That too is possible. I read a post that suggested we "reinvent" the camps. I agree, gather them all up, hold them, interrogate them, and detain them for a determined amount of time to know if they are indeed, citizens, then they should understand and appreciate that living in America is not free, it is earned. We are too liberal, not necessarily in our politics, as in our "open door" "melting pot" consensus. Have you traveled outside of America recently? The "open door"theory isn't there! One must account and prove a reason for being there,or take the chance of being jailed for lack of proof. And try to get out! We must secure ourselves from outside evil forces. I am not a deeply religious person but I do pray for our soldier's safety everyday. I commend them on their committment to all of us as Americans to defend and die for our freedom, I am not that brave. I hope this war will cease soon, I hope Iraq will appreciate the freedom we have offered them and join us in eradicating the evil that threatens them as much as it does us. If only they could recognize it as evil. How interesting that we never saw those encounters as anything but a war crime. Where would we be today in progress against terrorists? I do hope for world peace so we could help each other eradicate child disease and work together for a safer and more loving world. I don't know who is right or wrong or if either candidate is right or wrong, I only know that they both have the intelligence and the resources to do better in this war while preserving our strength here at home. God bless our men and women serving for my freddoms tonight! I salute you all!

Why is the left so hard to convince that 9/11 isn't the FIRST attack on the U.S.? How come the American people don't realize that going into Iraq is part of the war on terrorism? I, for one, find this war very real and understand it totally and can't figure out why others do not after many other attacks. i am a soldier in iraq, proud to do my country's duty, under whoever. i think that most of america does not understand the muslim world. there is alot to be learned in amerca if they will ever understand them. see im real confused at why were over there. i understand about the diplomatic needs of this country, but did we not submit our will on these people? did we not play the cold war with the soviet union. grown men playing childish games with weapons that could uterly destroy us all. its obvious in our history books we know little of the culture of arabs and muslims world wide just as we knew nothing of the commies. there needs to be a understanding on our side, as we send more and more of our brave youth to war, that this is a determaned foe. they want us out and that is there perception of freedom. its not about saddam anymore. its about religion, culture, being arab, and being forced down by ocupation. yes we do need to wake up. ahh here is a good chance. we recently captured two muslim extremist. they are american citizens, we should try him like we tried o.j. lets let the public have a chance to here the defense side. withhold all secret material and get to understand the reason behind this all from there side. then we will know why they hate us so much. but its up to you here in america, and we wont get that chance unless kerry is in office. so vote for who you like, but if you are wise... vote for a man that understands the need to understand... kerry

Hooray!! I think you hit the nail on the head, almost. Much of our nation is Christian, so how do they attempt to right the wrongs in the world?? They simply pray and leave it in God's hands. They pray for peace, for the starving babies in various parts of the world, for the safe return of our boys in combat, for the demise of the terrorists, and much more. In reality, they are using prayer for a scapecoat so they won't have to get involved financially or phyically in correcting the problems of the world. They just want to go on living the good life and leave it up to God. Well, it doesn't work that way. Instead of saying "WAKE UP", it should be get off of your lazy butts and do something about it. Muslims, Christians, Catholics, Jews, Buhdists and many more "religions" are praying for a multitude of reasons and outcomes, that are often in conflict. They are all putting all the earth's problems in the hands of their Gods. WAKE UP people, God helps those that help themselves! Retired Army person and retired professional firefighter.

The Muslim controlled countries waging it against the United States belive that if they can gain complete control of the majority of the world's oil supplies, they can destroy the United States. They still don't get the fact that this country will survive, with or without their oil. It is

I do not want to live in fear for the rest of my life. If we do not face this terrorism, that is what we will be doing, worrying where we will be hit next. All that is correct and it is a shame on all our leaders, our political parties, and even us citizens. Before we are involved in all our wars, we are never prepared. We suffer and pay the price with the deaths of our military personnel and share in the blame for all the citizens of the countries that are killed while we are getting ourselves ready for war. After the war we as a country usually disband and greatly disarm our country with the thought that we made the world better and restored peace. We go back to a peacetime economy and direct our attention to making capitalism our prime concern and desire the rest of the world to do the same and hope they all follow our democratic system and truly appreciate what we have done for them. What we forget about is that our systems and institutions cannot work in all the countries of the world and instead of being admired by their people, we may be hated and reviled. To be fair, our leaders did what they thought was best as each incident occurred. When the 9-11 attacks occurred and resulted in so many American deaths, President Bush did what he deemed and believed he and our country should do. He and his advisers were wrong....they invaded two countries. Those countries did not attack us on 9-11. Some terrorists that may have lived or trained or were supported by these two countries and some of their citizens. President Bush needed to do something to retaliate and he attacked two countries. What he needed to do and realize was that he was up against a religion and its beliefs and doctrines and the fanatics that believed in their cause so strongly that they were willing to die for their beliefs. You cannot fight and defeat people like that without total elimination of their kind and even then all you do is create a new group of new enemies. You must try to win by example and doing the things necessary to change their hearts and minds or at least try to reach the people that are harboring and supporting their efforts and causes. To do otherwise is to only prolong the suffering and resentments and hates and deaths of us and them. This war has been going on for centuries but we as a nation was to busy to notice. Now that we are involved and are becoming victims we think we must use our military to win. This is understandable since we are the mightest nation in the history of the world and have an arsenal of weapons that will subdue and defeat any opponent. That is true and that is why we went on the offense and brazenly believed we could win in a matter of months. If it was countries that we went to defeat, that would have and did happen. Our leaders again erred and were not and are not understanding the enemy of this nation and its institutions. This war will go on and on and will never be won with weapons. If we insist and proceed with weapons and killing of our citizens and theirs, we are in for a lot of tears and heartache. They cannot defeat our way of life and we cannot defeat their way of life with weapons that kill. We need to change their way of thinking and ours if we ever want peace for all the world's grandchildren. This is my opinion and thoughts. I hope and pray that peace will come very soon. Thank you

For starters, I cannot believe there could possibly be someone out there that believes George Bush was somehow behind 911, so he could start a war. Wake up is right! Are there people out there that just believe we are to sit back and do nothing to insure the freedoms in this country. Look at the last 400 hundred years and the lives lost protecting those freedoms. I don't think any of us would want to walk a day in George Bush's shoes. To imagine his job is impossible! The days are gone that we can take for granted, going to sleep at night and feeling totally safe. The threat of a nuclear holocaust or chemical war scare me to death! Those threats are real and anyone believing otherwise must have hit the snooze button! May the Lord help us, if John Kerry is elected! Have you forgotten????? GEORGE BUSH HAS MY COMPLETE SUPPORT!

So many of you seem to be in support of John Kerry who has been called out as a liar when it comes to the Vietnam war by the men that he served with. He came back to the USA and made completly false accusations about war crimes that were "supposedly" committed, when the men in his own unit have said that none of it took place. It is my personal opinion that it is about time that we have someone like George Bush in the White House someone who supports the funding of our military, the young men and women who are over in Iraq right now fighting for our freedom as a country. The people who claim to hate President Bush need to spend a little more time on their knees in prayer before God for this man, it has to be a hard job running a county full of so many ungreatful people. After reading the hate America drivel being spouted by the numbers idiot, all I can say is that if he wants to get out of the country, I'll pay his way. The only stipulation is that when he finds out how bad the rest of the world is and tries to come back, I get to hunt him down and put him out of his misery. As for Kerry, how come he wants to head the country that produces baby killers. He might have killed babies, and poisoned food supplies, but I nor any of the men that I served with did anything like that, and would have killed any of our guys if we had caught them doing so. Does that tell you anything about the kind of man that wouldn't even report it while it was happening? I personally don't think it ever happened except in Kerry's mind to get attention.

Freedom isn't free, it never has been and will never be!!! Someone's blood from Jesus Christ down to every soldier that was ever killed or injured paid for it. We need to realize that and do something about it, or soon there will be no USA. Everyone has tried to make us the bad guys, and make us conform to their ways of life, enough is enough. If you don't LOVE this country, then get out of it. Go live somewhere else, we don't need you anyway. I pray for our President every day and our troops and their families. We should not wait until the terrorist enemies are on our doorsteps, literally pulling us from our comfortable homes, in our comfortable neighborhoods to understand that terrorism is a universal threat to all who are not terrorists or of their beliefs. No country can stand against something so horrific as terrorism unless they are united to the purpose of defeating terrorism. President Bush has been trying to unite this country to do just that. I, for one, support his efforts, and that of our troops to try and stem this tide of hatred against all of us who do not hold with the terrorists beliefs. It sickens me to hear the hatred for our President, and so much of the media feeding the hate mongoring towards this current administration who IS doing something about it. I do not see the answer in John Kerry and whatever administration he would put into power...as turning our military over to the U.N. That in and of itself is showing disdain for our own military and the proud history of protecting this country and its freedoms. It may sound like a cliche to many...but freedom isn't free, it does come with a great cost. I fear the ones who yell the loudest to have their freedom of speech, are the ones who yell the loudest against their own military...the very ones who give all they have to protect them. It's time for this country to get behind President Bush and send the message to terrorists that we are standing firm to fight against their attrocities against so many innocent people in the world.

If you're tired of the blame game, then stop blaming President Bush! He had the same intelligence reports given him that were given to Tony Blair and some of the other leaders, as well as Clinton in the previous administration. At least Bush acted on that information. He warned the countries and he followed through on what he said he'd do. What would you think of him if he'd have said "Live and let live" after 9/11 or if we'd turned the other cheek? How many more U.S. citizens would've been killed then? And how many more years should we have negotiated with a pathological dictator and murderer? Twelve yrs. certainly should have been more than enough. If Gore had become president, we'd still be sitting in meetings and wondering what to do about the terrorists, and if Kerry becomes president, we'll be letting the incompetent U.N. take over and scold the terrorists.....maybe they'd slap their hands and say "Now don't do that any more."

The "Lancaster New Era," PA, 07/24/04, has an article about a 34 y.o. Iraqi veterinarian, now living and practicing in Lancaster County. Other family members left Iraq separately in the early 90s to avoid detection, and he eventually arrived in the U.S. in 1999. "Saddam had the disease of absolute power," he claims and that he was a threat to all Arab countries and eventually the U.S. He said that there are WMDs even though they haven't been found. "Saddam was working on those weapons for 40 yrs. He would never destroy them. They are buried in the sand. They can't be found because they are so deeply buried." This educated Iraqi saw dreams destroyed and poverty come to a once prosperous country. He says that this war was a just one and a noble effort to get Iraq on its feet but that we need to get out now. He says that there will be civil wars in that country for at least 20-30 yrs. because of the animosity among the many ethnic groups vying for power. Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor, Boston U. professor, and 1986 Nobel Prize winner, writes in the July 4 issue of "Parade Magazine": "America understands that a nation is great not because its economy is flourishing or its army invincible but because its ideals are loftier. Hence America's desire to help those who have lost their freedom to conquer it again. America's credo might read as follows: For an individual, as for a nation, to be free is an admirable duty--but to help others become free is even more admirable." It's a shame that there are U.S. citizens who can't or won't comprehend any of the above simply because they hate Pres. Bush so much. They'd prefer to make the terrorists happy to hear so much discourse and spewed hatred of our leaders. I wonder how many of the anti-Bush people have stopped to pray for him? C.W.Wagner, Lititz, PA

The rules of War have changed. No longer do we or should we try and rationalize other religious ventures or other peoples' beliefs. The time to act is now and well before another attack on us. We cannot sit frozen with fear or disbelief. Nobody wants what is happening. It is up to us to recognize what is happening and take aggressive action to stop it. We can pay now or pay later. If we pay later it will be many times more costly in $ and human sacrifice. To the bleeding hearts, get over it and wake up. You will not be convinced until a terrorist is masked with sword in hand banging down your door. Only then will you say, "we need to do something about these terrorists!" Another great article and so very true in every respect. When do we react in a way which tells the other nations that they cannot afford to come after us this way. The penalty must be harsh and some innocents will be killed but there is no other way. As long as we sit and allow the rest of the world to kick us around they will continue to do so since it is always a good feeling when you kick the biggest guy in the crowd. What makes you not want to try beating up on the big guy is the reprocussions you know will be coming your way. You know he will hit you harder then what you hit him so its not worth it. The whole idea that we cannot react to these Islamics is totally redicules. We are not attacking them because of their religion but only because they feel that the only way they can live on this earth is to eliminate us from this earth. George Bush II (as well as Bush I and Reagan and Rumsfeld and Cheney and Ashcroft, et al) is a criminal and should at least be in prison. The Reagan regime and the puppets who have followed are responsible for murdering hundreds of thousands of people. 9/11 was tragic but not unexpected and totally deserved. We got what we had coming. The Iranian hostage crisis is a perfect example of the why we are responsible for what happens to us directly. Those hostages were not taken because of Jimmy Carter or any "student" unrest. The fault goes all the way back to Eisenhower. The people of Iran overthrew the Shah, Pahlevi, because he was a tyrant (see "Saddam"). The Eisenhower administration wanted Iran to keep Pahlevi in power because he was our friend and provided us with military positions and oil. Ike exiled the Ayatollah Khomeni and reinstalled the Shah to power. Millions of dissedents were executed in the aftermath. It is just that it took the people 20 years to recoup their might that Carter became the scapegoat. This is not to mention that Reagan made a deal with the hostage takers to keep those people captive for more than a year longer than was necessary in order to secure the election. A lot of the rest of the problems in the Middle East comes from the fact that the U.S. was responsible for supporting the Zionists and creating Isreal, the biggest terrorist nation in the world next to the United States. We have been persecuting and selectively crippling huge sections of the Third World as our wants and needs have seen fit since WWII with impunity. Now we are finally starting to pay for our misdeeds and people can't handle it. Just think how bad off this country would be if these people had the means to really bring their fight to us. The American people would fall apart in panic and fear and our government would likely fall. All one has to do is study the history of "civilized" man and see what it happening. I have a political science degree, am a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Military (Army and Navy service, 20+ years) and fight to defend our constitution every day but Bush II is very dangerous and you people have to stop hiding behind all this flag waving psuedo patriotism and put a stop to him before our way of life ceases to exist as we know it, permanantly!!!!!!!

Bush and that family have been friends for years.....OIL folks. Bush pushed us into war alright but with the wrong people. He knew there were not WMD and believe me, he and his cohorts are making millions supplying all the weapons our boys are using. He wasn't interested in punishing for the 9/11 problem. He's in the oil business and oil is what he's after. All he is doing is making millions at the expense of the common blood. Bush isn't even liked in his own state. They were glad to see him gone. How true this is, what we must understand is the spot we are in now did not just happen. We let it build up to this point. I believe we did so not out of fear, but out of sheer ingorance. Thinking and knowing that we did not wish to dictate to anyone else. Lets set back and wait they will understand. To be assertive and strong will deter violence against us. We must go after all who would harm us. I know since we have let this situation get to this point it will take longer. But for our future generations we must be strong. All that is going on now, loosing our brave soldiers is so hard to bear. As long as we stand together and strong we will prevail I pray. We are a free nation of speech, but our free speach procast over the world is encouraging terrorist againsr us. When something happens one time on the news would be efficient. Clinton had 8 years prior to this last attack to take action. He was handed Bin Laden and did nothing and also treated terrorists as if they were just common criminals. I understand Bush has some responsiblity as well, however he obviously entered his position with a huge amount of baggage from the previous administration. There are several administrations that "hit the snooze"! G.W. BUSH took ACTION. Some may not like him, some may think he went to war in the wrong country, but none can say we have been attacked since we went to war. If we end up with Kerry in the White House I am afraid the terrorists will see it as an open invitation as Kerry is so against war. His war record proves that. A Concerned Vet!

I agree that something should have been done sooner, but why just blame Clinton. Reagan and Bush 1 were in office in the 80's when a lot of this was going on and they are not even mentioned. Just Carter and Clinton. Let's not be biased in this there is enough blame for everyone to share.

My husband is former Air Force and spent some time in the Air Force Reserves. We have always supported our troups and will continue to do so. It makes me sad when I hear people say "we have no right to be in the Middle East. Get our troups out of there!" How soon they forget what has happened since 1979 (or selectively do not want to remember or face the fact). Terrorism has to be stopped. We have to stamp out this evil to make the world a better place for our selves, our children, grandchildren, and those following them. Keep your chin up, America!! We will survive!! -Susan-

The 9/11 commission has released the recommendations. It calls for offensive measures, those such as President Bush is and has begun. I only wish Clinton would have done the same and maybe 9/11 wouldn't have happened. I think Bush inheirted a mess! Not sure what else he could have done to prevent 9/11 with no longer than he had been in office. I agree, the snooze button was depressed to many times. So many say love not war. Our 9/11 commission all but said that is what we will need to do from this point on "OFFENSE"! Before Bush we were doing defense only and we were not doing a very good job at that.

This is a well written and factual article. I used to wonder about the concentration camps here in the US during WWII. As I grew up, I thought it wrong (I was a baby during that time), but I can now understand why it was done. Now I believe that we should send ALL people from the mideast, who are not citizens, back to their countries or open some concentration camps back up and stick these people in them. I've heard there are some very nice middle easteners. Probably are, but you can't really tell them from the very nice quiet sleeper cells, can you? It is time to close our borders. I am in Oregon and not long ago, a terrorist training camp was found not too far from my home, 150 miles or so. Personally, I think there should have been a bomb dropped on the place. Wake up! These people HATE us. I will vote for Bush. He has done a great job. And yes, I have a son serving in the military, whom I am very proud, so I know the risks.

Everyone wants to point fingers after the fact about who's to blame for 9/11.The FACT IS- PRESIDENT BUSH JUST INHERITED AN NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY THAT WAS NOT AND HAD NOT BEEN ACTING IN THE BEST INTEREST OF SECURING THE SAFETY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE FOR THE LAST 10-20 YEARS! HE DID NOT INVENT OR INSTALL THIS SYSTEM THE DAY AFTER HE GOT ELECTED! CLINTON HAD BIN LADEN HANDED TO HIM IN SUDAN FOR FREE WITH NO BILLIONS SPENT AND NO LIVES LOST 3 TIMES AND THIS WAS AFTER THE FIRST TIME AL-QUIEDA TRIED TO LEVEL THE WTC IN 93 AND JUST LET HIM GO! HOW MAY LIVES AND BILLIONS HAVE WE SACRIFICED SINCE THEN FOR THAT COLOSSAL DEMOCRATIC BLUNDER! THAT ALONE IS A WORSE MISTAKE THAN ANYTHING PRESIDENT BUSH HAS DONE SINCE IN OFFICE! BUSH IS JUST HAVING TO DEFEND THE SECURITY OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NOW BECAUSE SEVERAL DEMOCRATIC ADMINISTRATIONS (AND A FEW REPUBLICANS ALSO!)KEPT HITTING THE SNOOZE BUTTON UNTIL IT ALL BLEW UP IN OUR FACE! ANYONE WHO THINKS IF WE DON'T TAKE IT TO THE TERRORISTS NOW, THEY WILL JUST GO AWAY AND LEAVE US ALONE IS LIVING IN LA-LA LAND! WE HAVE LEFT TERRORISTS ALONE FOR TOO LONG AND LIKE A DISEASE THEY HAVE GROWN UNCHECKED,AND I APPLAUD PRESIDENT BUSH FOR HAVING THE GUTS TO STAND UP FOR THE GOOD OF ALL OF THE CITIZENS- EVEN IF THE ALL DON'T AGREE WITH HIM! SOMETIMES THE RIGHT THING TO DO ISN'T ALWAYS THE MOST POPULAR THING! AND AS FOR THESE HOLLYWEIRDS LIVING IN PLASTICWORLD, THEY WERE ALL BEHIND THE PRESIDENT AFTER 9/11, BUT HOW QUICK THEY TURNCOAT! THEY'D ALL BE BEHIND THE PRESIDENT SCREAMING FOR ACTION IF A SERIN GAS BOMB WENT OFF AT THE ACADEMY AWARDS, PICTURE ABOUT 100 OF HOLLYWEIRD'S MOST A-LIST ALL LAYING AROUND DEAD, BOY THAT SURE WOULD'NT BE ACCEPTABLE AT ALL. THEY WOULD BE SCREAMING FOR AN ALL OUT WORLD WAR AGAINST TERRORISTS! THE REASON WE HAVEN'T HAD ANOTHER ATTACK SINCE 9/11 IS BECAUSE OF GOING AFTER THESE PEOPLE AT THE SOURCE. I WOULD GUESS THAT IF THE AMERICAN PUBLIC KNEW ABOUT THE PLOTS THAT HAVE BEEN FOILED COVERTLY IN THIS COUNTRY SINCE 9/11, I'D BET THAT NO ONE WOULD LEAVE THEIR HOUSE TO GO TO WORK IN THE MORNING! I SLEEP ABOUT AS WELL AS I CAN KNOWING OUR PRESIDENT IS DOING ALL HE CAN TO PROTECT US AND OUR WAY OF LIFE! SOMETHING ELSE MAY HAPPEN AS FAR AS TERRORISM IS CONCERNED IN THE FUTURE, BUT AT LEAST I KNOW THIS PRESIDENT IS A SERIOUS AS HE CAN BE ABOUT STOPPING IT! PLEASE GET OUT AND VOTE AND SUPPORT THE PRESIDENT-IT IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN ASSURE THAT ALL IS BEING DONE TO KEEP US SAFE! KERRY IS WEAK ON THE DEFENSE OF OUR COUNTRY AND HAS VOTED AGAINST EVERY MAJOR IMPROVEMENT IN MILITARY HARDWARE SINCE HE'S BEEN IN OFFICE.THE MOST PRODUCTIVE THING HE DOES IS MARRY VERY WELL TO WEALTHY WOMEN! AND AS FOR EDWARDS- A LIKEABLE GUY BUT WE ALL KNOW WHAT TRIAL LAWYERS HAVE DONE TO OUR COST OF LIVING OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS! TALK ABOUT PUTTING TWO FOXES IN THE HENHOUSE!!!!!! BUSH/CHENEY 2004!

These attacks on US personnel and property will continue until the terrorists are made to be too afraid to contemplate such action. Religious fanatics or not, they must be dealt with in the most basic sense. If it takes the erasure of a few of their cities, ports, etc., so be it. Maybe then, some of their non-violent relatives will bring pressure on them to stop this nonsense. I, for one, am tired of America getting kicked in the teeth. I have nothing against turning the other cheek, but when they slap the second one, I think we should smite them. GO GEORGE W!!!!!

Now for all those that just simply have to do something about our present state of affairs, may I suggest that you vote for Bush and become pro-active. I think this is a Bush campaign attempt to get Americans to vote for him bases on past terrioristic tactics. However, if he wanted to attack someone it was correct to go to Afghanistan but not Iraq. Iraq was not a threat to the U.S., they had no weapons of mass destruction and I believe Bush went to war not as a last resort but for familial reasons.

Very detailed piece. I wish the media would start opening their eyes to these issues before it is to late. I was just thinking. What if we went to work everyday and the same few people walked up and slapped us in the face. Every now and then they threw in a punch. What if you told your boss about it and after a few months it still continued and nothing was being done? Same thing for your kids. What if the bully never lets up and the school allows it to continue? Do you change jobs? Relocate so your child can go to a different school or pay for private schooling? OR, do you eventually have to slap them back. I can't take credit for this, my 15 year old daughter came up with it. It is not apples and oranges at all if you put some thought into it. These people came to our land, killed us, and got by with it for quite some time. The UN did not step up to the plate in a timely manner. This is a lot worse than a slap in the face or a bully at school, but maybe if you see it in simple terms you will understand the need for retalliation at some point. When is enough enough? If people are allowed to continue without consequence, they will. Another point I have for those that are interested. People want unfair equalities. Some want pay rates to be the same where nobody makes more. Another scenario then. Say you are in college making a 4.0 GPA working your rear off to get it and this other person is partying and not trying as hard and gets a 2.0 GPA. Yet this person complains, like those of lower income. You are expected to give 1.0 of your 4.0 GPA so you are equal? Now you both have 3.0 GPA and all is well huh? This will never happen and thank GOD! For those that say we should all make the same amount of money and the richer should pay more than the less fortunate, why? I am not rich, but I sure don't ecpect those that worked harder to have to pay my way. Thanks for the article and GOD Bless BUSH and our men and women in the military.

LMAO @ vote for Kerry/Edwards. Only when HELL freezes over! So far, there have been a record low of democrats voting for Kerry. These people saying anyone but Bush have bird brains. Which reminds me, we have a bird that speaks, he repeats whatever we say, just like Kerry supporters. They remind me of sheep following the heard. These Kerry supporters have yet to say one thing Kerry stands for or is basing his election on! Oh, I guess that is hard to do since nobody can possibly know where Kerry stands. Afterall, Kerry voted for this war folks, that's right, he did. OOPS, EXCEPT HE VOTED AGAINST THE WEAPONS NEEDED ONCE THERE! By the way, Kerry was shown the same information Bush was given (from intel)before we went to war and is what was used to vote on weather we should go to war or not. So, if Bush lied so did every single one of those who voted to go to war, INCLUDING KERRY!! His 4 month war record proves to be a bit skeptical as well. 4 months!! His party is worried about Bushs record which has been produced over and over but Kerrys record is 4 total months long? There have been so many men who deserved those medals Kerry has. They lost limbs and their lives!! How did he get so many without 1 day in the hospital? He is a traitor and should be charged with war crimes if what he himself says about the war. How did he make "MORE MONEY" than Bush last year (tax recors proved this) and pay less taxes? All this talk about Bush and his money and Kerry is worth more! Set the record straight. Kerry is the money hungry traitor. As far as this summary of events goes, there is nothing simple about it. Some Americans (if they dare consider themselves that) are to blinded and closed minded to see and accept the truth.

I am appalled by the simplicity of the writer. We are fighting a war that we began ourselves by invading the country of people who had nothing to do with the terrorist attack on Sept 11. We have not found BinLaden or the other Saudis who are responsible for this because they are in bed with our current President. It is impossible to go back and correct all the mistakes that have been made in the past, but I want a president that does not rely on the profits that he and his friends are mking from a war where we were the aggressor. I would not be surprised to find out that our leaders know where Bin Laden is and will produce him for effect about 2 weeks before a Presidential Election. He could be put away as a 'hole card' to play closer to the event. Remember the hostages' return in 1980. How convenient was that to make our new Rep. President look like a hero. I urge all voters to please find out all the facts before they make a decision, based solely on political party.

Facts - solid facts. Who can argue? Yes, we are thankful (or should be) that Bush is where he is; smart, he knows this war would be destructive in regards to his re-election. He didn't care. He took the difficult road and didn't leave it for someone else to clean up. He is compassionate - people in Iraq were being killed - he stepped in. I understand that many of the people over there in small villages pray for Bush every night. They say when Clinton was in office, people got killed every day, for no good reason. As soon as Bush was elected, things got better. People should know - you don't change coaches halfway through the year. To change Presidents would be heinious; no way we can let this happen! For those of us in our early 40's, awaken to the fact that things are not easy street; those of us who are intelligent, well spoken and resourceful need to get out there and be heard. The fact is, our population is changing. Not too far off in the distint future nearly 25% of our nation's population will be Hispanic; now I don't you all getting the picture? Who knows what direction voting will be taking in another 20 years; become educated with the facts and "politely vocal" so others will LISTEN. Facts speak loud and clear; decrease the venom and bi-partisian attitude and people will cross over, or maybe come to see some middle ground!

Thank you, also, to our President Bush and his advisers, for daring to take the unpopular course in going to war. What can we, as a people and as indiviuals, do to stay the course of freedom? We have to re-elect Bush and Cheney, for starters; they are gutsy rather than political. They and their supporters are not hiding behind a facade of politics, but rather of doing the right thing. Be clear on that. It's always harder to do the right thing than to do the easy, popular thing. Keep doing the right thing. KC

I fully support President Bush and think it is very necessary, however uncomfortable, that we defend our freedom at this time. So many acts of terror have been committed without retaliation, as the article points out, that President Bush did not have a choice in his actions. I don't believe in war except as a last resort, but I feel, as I believe President Bush does, that we did not have any other alternatives. I hurt for the families of the military who are away from home and pray for them daily. There are members of my family who have been in Iraq and are still there. But these people chose to defend our country; nobody made them go. I sincerely thank every one of them for risking their lives for us. I also thank President Bush for his decision to put a stop to terrorism once and for all hopefully.

To the misled one who thinks we should not have military bases anywhere but on our own soil. In that case we should also not lend a hand financially either and all the chaos you see now will be 100 fold. They want America to help with resources, be there for them in time of wars, but not have a militray base there? If that is so, then they need to fork the cash and military backing to "US" then we will allow them to have bases on our land. As it stands, we are the ones giving and giving. I am sure there are loads of military folks out here who read those comments about not training on their soil, the soil of those we aid. Excellent summary of events! When Carter and his administration turned against the Shah of Iran, opening that part of the world to the Ayatollah, and other tyrants, the Middle East accelerated toward destabilization, anti-democracy, anti-americanism and terrorism. We, in the top ranks of the military, were frustrated by the administration's naivete and weakness. Our nation's inaction emboldened tyrants and terrorists. Our ability to gather critical intelligence, via the CIA, and other agencies, was seriously weakened by the liberals during the Carter years. Succeeding administrations and our Congresses, up until the Bush, Jr. presidency did little or nothing to correct the problem. The Reagan administration did much to rebuild our military and to restore our pride and greatness in America, despite an arrogant, ineffective Congress Terrorism increased momentum during the years of Bill Clinton. His responses were not only quite weak and ineffective, but he also undercut our nation's capibility, by reducing drastically our military strength and technological developments. Bush, Jr. inherited a mess, which he has faced head-on....despite a Congress which has been inept since the mid-sixties. He's had little choice and precious little time to cope with a problem that has been growing since the late seventies. Richard F. Carvell

Eloquently stated, with perfect analogies, right on target. We as Americans are literally sleeping our lives, our liberty away. And we aren't even aware of it. In fact, we are still buying and taking "sleeping pills", in mass quantities to help us "sleep". In other words, we are voting for the wrong people, and promoting the wrong things. The Bible says in Chronicles: "If my people, which are called by my name (those of us who profess to be Christians, God fearing people), will humble themselves and pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive the sin and heal their land". We are one of the most richest and influential nations and don't have enough wisdom to bring a halt to the drug trafficking in our nation, not to mention all the terrorists attacks and attempts that have been rampant for years. Our state of complacency and leniency has become worse than epidemic proportions, it's literally suicide to ourselves and premeditated murder to the next generation that has to face it (namely our children and grandchildren)Yes, AMEN brother, it's time America woke up, stood up, stop singing one nation under God and act like we really do trust in God to clean up this mess!

I want to thank you for the fine job of putting all this together "under one roof". I want a president who will be a fighter, one who will do for me what I cannot do for myself. I want one who will not turn tail and run....I want to be able to hold my head up with pride and not have to be ashamed. We need to do a lot of praying for this next election. What a shame that these terrorists can actually hold other countries hostage by way of threats against captives. I am afraid that the day will come when we will stand alone. But what the Aussie wrote is true about being godless. So many of you "good" people out there want gay marriages, abortions, you kill, buy guns to rob from others and vote those into office who call good evil and call evil good.....and it really scares me to think about the world that we are handing to my grands and great-grands. Really, really think about what is good and what is evil. I don't like our men and women fighting and getting killed either, but when HATE and ENVY stops then the fighting will. And I am afraid that day will never come. Hey, it started with Cain and Abel!

Bush let us down when he has to use 40% of the troops from reserves and National Guard. Kerry a combat vet will swave us from Bush's destroying the military.

Why are in "ANY" of the countries mentioned above? Do we let foreign nations have military bases on our soil? NO, no we don't. Let the rest of the world protect itself, bring "ALL" of our boys and girls home, and if some American is foolish enough to work outside of American protection, then they deserve everything they get. As an American whom loves his country, I agree we should wake up, however I disagree with Bush leading this war as his motives are more than protection. The underneath motives of his administration is greed for his Corporate freinds, We need a true leader to win this one for the people of America as a whole, not for the ones just out to make a buck. We need a leader not a Puppet for profit, lest we wind up a Fascist nation, which he and his ilk are taking us. John Gilmere

AS A 'DINKY-DIE' AUSTRALIAN, I HAVE READ, WITH INTEREST, SOME OF THE REMARKS MADE BY YOUR CORRESPONDENTS, AND FRANKLY, MY HEART BLEEDS FOR THEM. PERHAPS I HAVE NO RIGHT TO 'INTERFERE' WITH AMERICAN POLICY, AND I WOULD HESITATE TO JOIN IN ANY POLITICAL ARGUMENT OR DISCUSSION REGARDING THE POLITICS OF AMERICA. HAVING SAID THAT, I HAVE WATCHED FOR MANY YEARS, THE DOWNGRADING OF CHRISTIANITY BY THE POWERS THAT BE IN AMERICA...RELIGION HAS BEEN VIRTUALLY THROWN OUT WITH THE DIRTY DISHWATER, AND YOU ARE NOW PAYING THE PRICE OF REMOVING GOD FROM YOUR COUNTRY. YOUR DOLLAR COINS STATE, "IN GOD WE TRUST"..THIS WOULD BE THE GREATEST PIECE OF HYPOCRICY I HAVE EVER SEEN!! WAKE UP, AMERICA, AND REALISE THAT UNTIL SUCH TIME AS YOUR GOVERNMENT MAKE LAWS IN ACCORDANCE TO THE COMMANDS OF GOD, WRITTEN FOR ALL TO READ IN THE HOLY BIBLE, AMERICA WILL CONTINUE TO BE PERSECUTED AND TERRORISED. WE IN AUSTRALIA, ARE ALLIED TO THE USA, AND HAVE PROMISED TO ASSIST IN ANY WAY WE CAN REGARDING THE ELIMINATION OF TERRORISM. WE ALSO HAVE OUR PROBLEMS WITH GOVERNMENT, BUT WE DO ALLOW FREEDOM OF RELIGION, AND WORSHIP WHERE AND HOW WE CHOOSE. GOD IS STILL A VITAL PART OF THIS COUNTRY'S HERITAGE, AND THE PROOF OF THIS IS THAT WE ARE ABLE AND WILLING TO HELP OUT a COUNTRY WHICH IS GENERALLY KNOWN AS 'THE GREATEST NATION ON EARTH'. WAKE UP, AMERICA, AND REALISE THAT ONLY BY THE GRACE OF A PATIENT AND UNDERSTANDING GOD, ARE YOU STILL FUNCTIONING AS A NATION. BUT DON'T LET'S PUSH HIM TOO FAR..THE CONSEQUENCES COULD BE DIASASTROUS! Norm from Austrlia..and proud of it!!

Every American should have to read this, maybe then we will remember that WWII started in 1937, not on December 7, 1941. That if the world would have realized the mistake they were making at Versailles that ended WWI, we might not have had to fight WWII. History truly does repeat itself and thanks to all those politically correct "American" citizens, who think they can put their heads in the sand, or hit the snooze control, we are now engulfed in another global war. Like the other wars in the last century, we can and will win this one too, but not until all of wake and realize that their are things worth fighting and dying to maintain.
