I am an active 71 year old man. Too old to care? No! But I can worry. Also I can be afraid. I worry about those younger than me and their future. I am somewhat concerned about my nest-egg and investments. However, I am afraid not of the outside world, but of my own national government; the only entity which can really destroy what I have and what will be. By the way I vote, go to church, volunteer at the local hospital, fix-up donated cars at no charge for women parents w/o transportation and enjoy my retirement freedom a great deal. But I am afraid our government is out of touch with the "real" people. Pa Kalb

We live about l00 miles from the border. There are large problems here. We believe in helping those in need, but within reason. Help them to help themselves and not handouts for life. There are people that employ illegally and not just here at the border. We are retired. We worked for our Social Security money. It is NOT a handout. Thank God we have a pension. The whole system is screwed up. It does not now even remotely resemble its original intent. How about this?? Because I can not make it on Social Security alone, I am forced to work full time. Each and every week my pay check is robbed of Social Security and Medicare taxes even though I am "retired" and "collecting". Deduct these taxes from my Social Security check and what am I left with?? I'm not the one who's "collecting". Rather, the Government is. Isn't this double taxation? And isn't this terribly unjust?? But, who cares?? Jerry B. P.S. Is anyone aware that our elected Congressional representatives do not pay into Social Security?? They have a special retirement program that pays them their full salary AND THEY DON"Y PAY A CENT INTO IT !! This is insane and a stab in the heart to American citizens who have worked and paid into the Social Security System for all of their adult lives, trusting the government to stand behind what was promised. What justification can they possible have to want to extend these benefits to people who have never contributed or even worked in the United States? Surely, no one in their right mind would back a proposal for something like this. But then again, the Congress does not come under Social Security, so they could care less. If you are not a citizen of the United States and have not worked your time, please forget about taking away from the SS fund. Giving away our money is why we are in the predicament we are in now. Always giving away to this country and that country and for what?, so they can come at us and terrorize us with the money we gave them. Let me refrase that, the Government that takes our tax dollars. If you figure your yearly salary against how much the government takes, you would be working a full month out of the year or more for the taxes. I think we need to take care of our own home front now and let the others be. Mexico has always been a sore spot for me because I lived on the Mexico border for many years and saw what goes on. They come on this side and get food stamps and welfare and then they take it back across the border and sometimes even put the groceries on the shelf of a store they own. Call it in and they will tell you they do not have the personnel to check out everyone. If they would stop giving away our money they would. We give to much to too many for nothing in return. Just look around you and see what goes on. The government must stop beating around the bush and do something. So what if they hurt some bodies feelings. Well too bad. The government do not mind hurting our feelings when it comes to taking our tax dollars and throwing them away. We need to clean up our government and get rid of the good ole boy act. Get our own government house in order and stop fussing and fighting like children. Work together for a better America. Forget that you are Republicans or Democrates. You are an American. That is all that counts when you are fighting for the rights of the American people.

As usual government officials propose something else without much thought and I wonder what is the benefit for the person who proposed this HR 219? Just think of all the industries that have moved to Mexico in order to obtain cheap labor and not have to pay pensions etc. It has robbed the AMERICAN PEOPLE OF JOBS and benefited the stockholders of big business!!The mexicans should be legal citizens and have to work here, not in Mexico, to be eligible for Soc. Sec. The years Mexicans have worked in Mexico at low low wages would not bring much into the "totalization".As usual the U.S. would be footing the bill.If the Mexicans become U.S. citizens and meet all the requirements to draw Soc. Sec. that the AMERICANS NOW HAVE TO MEET, then that is a different story. The Mexicans should not be able to go back to Mexico to then draw Soc. Sec. even if they became citizens and met all requirements for Soc. Sec. ONE THING IS FOR SURE.....IT SEEMS TO ME THAT ALL ELECTED GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MONEY TO LIVE ON AS MOST OF THEM HAVE INHERITED THEIR MONEY. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT IS TO LIVE AS THE AVERAGE CITIZEN LIVES. THEY GO INTO OFFICE WITH MONEY AND COME OUT WITH MUCH MORE BENEFIT WISE. YOU HAVE TO HAVE MONEY TO RUN FOR OFFICE OR HAVE MANY MANY SUPPORTERS THAT HAVE MONEY. WHEN WE VOTE FOR THESE POLITICANS, WHAT DO WE REALLY KNOW ABOUT ANY OF THEM???? NOTHING. There are many elderly, especialy women, that do not have enought money to pay for their prescriptions and there still is NO PRESCRIPTION PROGRAM TO ASSIST THEM WITH THE COST OF MEDICATIONS. DRUG COMPANIES JUST KEEP RAISING THEIR PRICES AND THERE SHOULD BE SOME RESTRICTIONS ON THEIR PRICE GOUGING. TRUE THERE HAS TO BE RESEARCH, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CASES WHERE THERE IS CONSPIRACY TO KEEP MEDICATION FROM BEING MADE GENERIC??? There is a lot more I could say - but that is just what it would be "say".

I believe that the Social Security System should be used for the retirement of AMERICAN CITIZENS who have put in the required quarters of work in order to draw from it at time of retirement; and also, for dependents of families of deceased CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES who have participated in the payroll deductions for the Social Security account as long as they worked and paid into the Soc. Sec. System in the United States. All we hear is that the system is going broke and age increases for retirement of our CITIZENS has already taken place. WE WORK LONGER TO SUPPORT ILLEGAL ALIENS...HOW CAN OUR CITIZENS SWALLOW THIS TYPE OF THINKING. WE HAVE ALREADY HAD THE ACCOUNT BORROWED FROM AND MONEY GIVEN FROM THE SOCIAL SECURITY ACCOUNT THAT IN NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM WAS FOR PEOPLE/THINGS WHO SPENT THEIR LIFETIME OF WORK GIVING INTO THE SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM AS WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED. This is very unfair!!! For illegal aliens to participate is a grave injustice. Where will it end? After Mexico, what other illegals will be given the privilege of the benefits we have worked for and supported. I PROPOSE THAT THE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES PENSIONS AND PERKS BE USED FOR THIS NO-BRAINER! I love my country, but this offends all my sensiblities! (It may get a lot of votes, but will it be worth it to OUR country?)

Why should we pay SS to Illegal Mexicans or other illegals in our country when the Sr. citizens can barely make ends meet that have paid into the system all of their lives. Let the congressmen and wives pay for these things they are trying to put into out system. They don't pay SS and yet they get the big FAT retirement that some of us never get. They need to do away with the big retirements the congressmen and wives get and also eliminate the congress being able to vote for their own pay raises. Which they have done for the last several raises. In comparison they got $5000 a year as compared to my $72.00 a year. There is something definitely wrong with this picture. IT TIME FOR A CHANGE.

Town Hall Comments

According to the Social Security Administration, the U.S. has similar totalization agreements with other countries including Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Canada Norway, and the United Kingdom. Critics are hopping mad about a totalization agreement with Mexico. They say it will cost upwards to one billion dollars to provide Social Security benefits to Mexicans who will qualify. They say that at a time when the Social Security system is such a focus of concern, it's not time to grant such benefits to such a large group of foreigners. Supporters say totalization benefits large numbers of Americans too, not just foreigners in the U.S.. One of the problems, according to the Social Security Administration, is that Americans, for example, who have worked in both the U.S. and a foreign country may end up being double taxed for retirement benefits. Additionally, there are some workers who have worked, for example, for a period of time in the United States then worked for a period of time in a foreign country, but failed to qualify for benefits in either country. The totalization agreements allow both U.S. and foreign workers to qualify for benefits based on the combined coverage of both countries.. According to the Washington Post, there is an estimated 37,000 Mexicans who worked legally in the United States and paid into Social Security but have not been able to collect their checks. One of the controversies of totalization is that it may include thousands of foreign workers who were in the U.S. illegally but did pay into Social Security. Immigration reform in 1996 cut their benefits.

I resent an illegal alian coming in, taking jobs from citizes, mostly likely not paying any taxes, and now wanting to take from our Senior Citizens and still not contribute to the welfare of this country. I wish the politicians would see that most hard working people need their social security intact and not taken away by a foreign nation. I have always said,"they're too many foreigners allowed in this country in the first place",there should be stricter laws before you can get in this country, when they come here they have more benefits than the Americans do, and we've worked and payed S.S. all our working years, that's all I'm going to say about it,I get too upset.

I think we should put all the legislatures that think up such stupid things and think the american people won't know what they are doing, on social security and let them live on it for the rest of their lives. I think they would change their thinking, they are the only people that can vote themselves a raise. They care little about the rest of the people in the U.S. They try to make sure that they have money spent in their state for stupid things so they will get relected again. I don't trust any of them, they are all a bunch of crooks.

social security was never operated as a fiduciary fund and congress back in 1962 admitted that it was just another TAX. If an American tried to start a scheme like SS the police would put them in jail. In civilian jargon it would be called a ponzi scheme. the only difference is with our government you are requiered to participate. As hard as it is try to save some thing for your self. SS will never do any thing but buy you a few extras. Those on it in the future will never get back what they put in. WHAT A GREAT INVESTMENT.

Is this really true? If so I don't like it. 1. Only those United States citizens that have worked and have earned it from the time they started paying into Social Security are deserving of any benefit from it. 2. If the illegals want the benefits of this country they need to work for it to receive the Social Security benefits.

I stand the same as you on this subject. There is something wrong with this picture. The American people have paid into Social Security for many years out of their, blood sweat and tears in their pay checks as well as the employers paying into it to, and what right does any government officials have, to give illegal aliens, or people that come into this country the right to get it, when most don't plan on staying here anyway, our money that we paid into it, and to help when we get old. They give these people all the breaks in the book as it is, providing homes, cars, electricity, and food, when our own people who need, they can't get it. So where the scales of right and wrong here, it is not being fair here, for the very people who put these officials into office. Their idea is, we got it, why not buy peoples votes by giving everything to them. I for one think they should be required to speak English in the work places, and should not be given everything on a silver platter, and it is about time to take a stand on this highway robbery. If they want to give these people something , dig down deep in their own pockets, not the taxpayers. Most of these people have businesses, drive expensive cars, live really nice neighborhoods, thats more than the average person gets for the fruit of their labor. I'm on Social Security, they gave me a raise of eight dollars and took that eight dollars, plus another $52.00 away for medicare, that most of the doctors around here, hospitals and etc., won't let you even in the door, if you have medicare, especially if that is all you have for income. And the cost of living just keeps going up, and up and up. Where does it all end. I think govenment needs to learn accounting and balancing, staying with (in the budget), the USA's check book. And learn not to be so free with the taxpayer's money, that thay were voted in by, to protect their interest. I also would like to know how come our senators, and the congress get paid on a different scale when they are on Social Security. Maybe they need to learn the basic's on how to manage their same money from social security, food, housing, garbage, electricity, water, medical, precriptions and etc, that we get. It is a very tragic thing our seniors being treated the way they are in this country. They can't even get the marriage penalty, taken off, and yet they find the time to give our Social Security Monies away to free loaders, that haven't earned their years to draw it like the rest of us. They should have to become citizens first, and have to work and pay into the Social Security so many years , like retirements do,and like we do, before they are eligible to draw it. Thank you for letting me to voice my opinion, on this and other issues. Sincerely elserenity

Please do not think I am prejedice but if these guys would quit making everything in english and spanish we would have a ton of money. I say get every one of them out of the US and now and stay out. I could be wrong here but our language is ENGLISH and if you can't read it and speak it then GET OUT!!! If you think I am being too harsh, next time you are in Las Vegas take a little ride around the neighborhoods and see what the mexican people are doing to it. It is all trashed, they throw trash all over and could give a you now what about it. Most of them are here in the US working to save money to go back to mexico. Claim: A bill currently before Congress (HR 219) would prevent Mexicans who worked in the USA illegally from claiming Social Security benefits. Status: False. Example: [Collected on the Internet, 2003] Origins: While it is true the Bush administration is working on an accord that would allow some Mexican citizens to claim benefits from the U.S. Social Security system, two of the key points in the above message -- that this accord will apply to Mexicans who worked in the USA illegally, and that the accord can be nullified through the passage of a bill currently before Congress (HR219) -- are wrong. The totalization plan now under discussion between the Bush administration and the Mexican government (both parties still describe the discussions as "informal and preliminary") would allow Mexican citizens who paid into the U.S. Social Security fund while legally employed in the USA to collect the benefits they accrued even if they return to their homeland. Mexicans who labored in the U.S. legally and who paid into the U.S. Social Security plan would no longer be penalized for having gone back to their country of citizenship, nor would they lose retirement benefits because, having split their working lives across two countries, they failed to meet the minimum requirements of either country's social security system. Totalization is nothing new, nor does it apply only to workers from Mexico. The United States has been negotiating such agreements with other governments since the late 1970s and currently has them in place with twenty other countries. These agreements allow workers to "totalize" the number of years they have toiled in both countries to meet the minimum number of years required to qualify for benefits in one of the systems. Many immigrants (from Mexico and elsewhere) enter the USA illegally and manage to secure jobs with the aid of forged or borrowed documents. Some of these immigrants go on to become legal residents, and it is these formerly illegal workers who are the subject of U.S. Representative (from Texas) Ron Paul's concerns, because at least one Mexican official has stated he hoped that if there were a totalization agreement between the U.S. and Mexico, benefits could be adjusted upward for now-legal Mexican workers who once labored in the United States illegally and paid into the system using false Social Security numbers. However, that a Mexical official may have such a scheme on his wish list doesn't mean that the U.S. plans to implement it, and the logistics of managing such a scheme would tend to rule against it. How could now-legal workers be matched to payments they made years earlier under false Social Security numbers? And if the formerly illegal workers couldn't be matched to their payments, how would anyone know how much benefit (if any) each of those workers had accrued? Without the checks and balances inherent to a "one number per one guy" system, the potential for fraud would be limitless. (It's easy to misread the comments from Rep. Paul quoted above as applying to Mexican laborers who continue to work in the U.S. illegally, but that isn't the issue being addressed. Undocumented Mexican workers who toil in the U.S. aren't part of the equation, although the spectre of a clamoring horde of illegals overwhelming the U.S. Social Security system is broadly hinted at in this "Let's defend Social Security!" piece. Those who continue to work in the U.S. illegally would have no recourse for claiming Social Security benefits under the accord as currently envisioned.) A totalization agreement with Mexico would cover Mexican citizens who worked in the USA legally and afterwards moved back home. The details of the accord -- how much of a benefit they would be entitled to, how long they'd have had to have worked in either country, whether the scale of payments made to beneficiaries would conform to U.S. or Mexican retirement plans -- haven't been released yet. However, it's reasonable to assume those charged with managing the Social Security totalization accord would engineer the agreement in such a way as to head off easily foreseeable abuse, cutting off at the knees the blood-boiling notion of former illegals working in the USA for all of two weeks then forever afterwards sucking the American public's tit. At its heart, the question of a Social Security totalization agreement with Mexico is one of raw economics. About 94,000 beneficiaries living abroad are serviced under the twenty agreements that now exist with other countries. A Mexican agreement could bring another 162,000 into the fold in just the first five years, and one independent estimate put the total potential expenditure at $1 billion a year. That is a large sum, yet one that begins to fall into context when measured against the $372 billion in Social Security benefits currently being paid to 46.4 million recipients. Even so, inking such an agreement with Mexico would place a further strain on Social Security resources, including the staffing of positions to administer the additional claims and possibly the erection of a new building. (The $1 billion a year in Social Security benefits themselves shouldn't really be counted in this assessment, because those are monies owed to legal workers who've been paying into the plan. That they are Mexicans who have gone back to Mexico doesn't change that it was their money all along, and the U.S. has been holding onto it.) The attempt to tie Rep. Paul's proposed HR219 bill to a statement against a totalization agreement with Mexico is also misleading. The Social Security Preservation Act of 2003 which Rep. Paul introduced in the House on 7 January 2003 seeks "to amend title II of the Social Security Act to ensure the integrity of the Social Security trust funds by requiring the Managing Trustee to invest the annual surplus of such trust funds in marketable interest-bearing obligations of the United States and certificates of deposit in depository institutions insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and to protect such trust funds from the public debt limit" -- in other words, it's a plan to stop the federal government from borrowing against Social Security's annual surplus revenue to fund other government programs (a favorite scheme for balancing deficit budgets). Nothing in the text of HR219 has anything to do with totalization agreements in general or a totalization agreement with Mexico in particular. (Indeed, the current HR219 couldn't possibly have anything to do with the totalization accord with Mexico now being worked on by the Bush administration, because it's simply a re-introduction of a bill first submitted to Congress on 3 January 2001 -- well before work began on the planned accord, and more than two weeks before President Bush even took office!) Americans who heed the message quoted above are therefore being stampeded into badgering their Congressional representatives to support H.R. 219 for reasons that have nothing to do with the content of that bill.   Love, Aunt Norma

I know too much about our crooked government to be alive. The reason that our gov. officials votes on a law, bill, act, etc the way they do,is because they are controlled by the use of money. The jews have the money and controlls the Masonic Lodges in every state in the U.S. Each lodge has got to have some jew ancestridge in it (perferably 3, if possible). These masonic members (masons), takes care of their own and sets out to get their man elected to do whatever they want. Most all of these politicains are masons or Lions Club memebers and they control your gov. The Masons are world wide and the Lions Club is in 190 countries. I once was in a lodge and the man that we helped to get elected and worked for, was a U.S.Senator, In The Judicial Branch Of Congress...it was a trade off, we keep him elected in power and he helps us in return, scratch my back and I scratch yours sort of thing. Have you ever seen a person get out of trouble over and over and not get put away for a looong time..? This is what I'm talking about... Each State gives a charter to those that starts up a mason or masonic lodge, and there can be more than one to a town that has any size. These lodges are CULTS, just read on the inter-net, it's all there...took me a looong time to find. If you don't know how to read and figure it out then you are lost ;-) but like I said I belonged to a lodge and I know...yes I was a spy for the gov. officials, against my neighbors, friends and even my own kin people like so many are today, until I got out and now they all turned against me...that's the price one has to pay, sometimes the only way out is by death, for one has to take a satanic oath and to believe that their god is JoaBulOn...look it up on the net...the word JoaBulOn and you will see...the reason I'm telling all this, is a member started this by passing the word on me and he was wrong...so now I spread the word back and let the world know ;-) I'll spread the word until they take my life...NOW back to the cause of the gov. doing crazy things with our tax dollars. We don't govern the government like we supposed to, they govern us. They have set it up this way, with the jews in the masonic lodges trying for that one world order...Pesident Bush calls it a one world govenment to fool people of the satanic cult's plan called the one world order...look one world order up on the net and yes masons have filtered in and are in control of our government. A MASON CAN BE ANYONE. The jews tried this in Germany, that's the reason Hitler killed alot of them. I'm sick of my government keeping all the good people down and helping the ones that are cult members to get ahead in life and a better way of living...ALL IN ALL, I PREDICT, THE ONLY WAY TO TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK IS ANOTHER CIVIL WAR AND TO OUST ALL CULTS AND CULT MEMBERS OUT OF OUR COUNTRY

We have paid into this all our lives and this is all we have to live on and that is not enough. For the poor folks that is. The rich have gotten more than their share. Where is the bentifits that for the poor that are struggling every day just to stay alive. Where is the promised prescription drug relief for the poor. The poor picks up the tab for the rich by paying tax's and the rich get tax relief. Now do you call that fair? There is coming a day of judgement when our leaders will stand before God and try to explain away why they couldn't help the poor. We have alot of foreigners sucking off the U.S., come here and are given special privileges to be able to get jobs over U.S, citizens. Some in goverment jobs, such as postal workers, and they. treat you like they are doing you a favor to wait on you. Its not just the Mexicans in my area who are a pain in the ---. I say take care of the American people first, our Veterans for one, then take care of the debt owed to many American's 'CALLED THE NOTCH YEARS'. My husband and I are both in those years and he is 80 years old and I am soon to be 77 years old and we have been cheated out of S.S. money ever since we stated drawing S.S. They are waiting for all those of us in those Notch years to die then they won't have to be bothered with owing us any more. Nice way to treat a WW2 Vet isn't it. Our Goverment needs a real house cleaning, Naional and state levels both. They need to know how to balance the check book like we all have to do. The increased real estate taxes on the backs of senior citizens and veterans to pay for this un-american give-away to teach English as a so- called "second language" is an insult to our american identity....and most of these foreignors have recently purchased million dollar homes here and have Mercede's and Jaguars on their driveways...Why doesn't the villages charge these money grabers an annual fee of say $1000 to teach their kids English.....

Our congress and the Presidents have been spending the social security for years and years. It is a ponzi scheme that any citizen would be put in jail for. The same type of scheme operates as the Federal Reserve Board. Wake up America! Read alternative news. The major media is bought and paid for by the elite. Both parties contribute to the stealing of our freedoms and liberties with using our own tax monies which we submit like a bunch of lemmings. Our kids have been sold into slavery while we watch sitcoms on TV, too lazy to raise our own kids, instead sending them to government schools to learn political correctness rather than the three r's. Well...I'm a receiver of a social security check every month for almost ten years now. My wife has been getting hers for six years. We both worked hard all our young years to pay into this system and were promised to receive these checks which we earned. This is no gift from our country...it is a "promise" that we expect our government in Washington to honor and preserve. We could not survive well without these checks,so we are thankful that our country has been able to keep it's promise that we paid for originally. But now there is a cloud hanging over our nations head which threatens the "promise" that was made many years ago. What bothers me is the response I get when I speak to a twenty year old,and they say, "There won't be Social Security for me when I'm your age!" Now that's the core of our nations problem for the future. We must give our young people the confidence that we had when we were young and working. How do we do that? Well...to start with, we must not allow any foreigners to receive any social security checks who have not paid into the system fully as american citizens. They must be here legally,no matter what country they left.

First I must say, IF ALL OF OUR CONGRESS AND SENATORS WERE PAYING INTO THE SOCIAL SECURITY LIKE ALL AMERICANS SHOULD, WE WOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THEY TREAT EACH OTHER LIKE PRIMA DONAS. US, THE BACKBONE OF AMERICANS, THE WORKERS AS IF WE ARE PROFESSIONAL DONORS. I WORKED HARD FOR WHAT I AM ABOUT TO RECEIVE IN SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS. I HAVE REQUESTED DISABILITY SS BECAUSE I HAVE SOME SETBACKS. I HAVE TO GO THRU HELL TO EVEN REQUEST SS DISABILITY. NOW THEY WANT TO GIVE IT TO ANY ALIEN WHO STEPS FOOT ON AMERICAN SOIL. I THINK THEY SHOULD CLOSE THE DOORS TO THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD UNTIL WE EARN RESPECT INSTEAD OF GIVING OUT FISTS FULL OF MONEY TO THOSE BECAUSE THEY CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH. WE GIVE ENOUGH AID TO THOSE COUNTRIES AND THAT IS EVEN TOO MUCH FOR WHAT WE GET BACK. WE ARE SAVING ABOUT 17 MILLION DOLLARS PER MONTH BECAUSE WE, YES WE WHO ARE DRAWING SS BENEFITS ARE USING THE "ELECTRONIC DEPOSIT SYSTEM". I NEVER HEARD ONE WORD THAT BECAUSE WE ARE SMART TO SAVE THAT WE WILL GET A RAISE. NO WAY, THAT IS TOO EASY, OUR PRIMA DONNA LEADERS WANT TO GIVE IT TO SOMEONE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY THAT DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT SOCIAL SECURITY IS.

PERSONALY I THINK ANYONE THAT RECIVES SOCIAL SECURTY SHOULD HAVE TO LIVE IN THE U.S.A.. If they chose to leave no pay. but that they should have to work and pay into S>C> for at least 20 Years. to recive any pay. That would help reserve for one that have payed into it. Richard Taylor.

I NEED TO PLAN EVERYTHING I DO WITH MY MONEY. THEY SAY NOW I CAN GO BACK TO WORK AND MAKE AS MUCH AS I WANT WITHOUT PAYING EXTRA INTO THEM. WHO WANTS TO GO BACK TO WORK? I WORKED HARD FOR MY MONEY AND FELL I SHOULD BE ABLE TO ENJOY MY RETIREMENT. SO I AGREE THAT MEXICO AND PEOPLE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES SHOUD HAVE TO WORK JUST AS HARD AS WE HAVE FOR THEIR MONIES FROM SOCIAL SECURITY.

It is absolutely wrong...They know what they are doing and their "sweet little smiles" and "grins" etc etc will not get it with us. They know that they can work here a while and get SS and go back home and sit under a tree, do nothing and live on Sco Sec. We cannot allow this. America needs to stand up and take a check on such things and stop the foreigners from robbing us in more ways than the SS. Keep working, please to stop this. Well here are my comments. Poor Mexicans, after AMERICA and Americans get the MOST of them paying them pennies and treating them like dirt even if they work THEIR BACKS OFF you have the nerve to talk about given Social Security, yes they earn it even if they did not work as many years as you people did, besides YOU ARE ALL FOREIGNERS because the only true AMERICANS are the INDIANS the KIND OF WORK that you people make them do is worth all the Social Security MOney they can earn. Don't forget you collect Social Security from them even if you do nor report it. THINK ABOUT IT ARE YOU A TRUE AMERICAN????? ONE MORE THING what would you do without the doctors foreigners that you get in the States because you AMERICANS can not come out with enough doctors is it because they don't have the brains????

I am a former employee of Social Security, and I am writing in regard to your web page article about Mexicans who may eventually be eligible to receive Social Security. I wish to make two comments: 1) Totalization is not new. This arrangement began in the 1980's. Under totalization, benefit amounts are prorated according to the number of credits the worker earned both under the U.S. Social Security System, and that of another country. The worker is only paid by the U.S. for the credits he earned here. The writer of this article would have learned this had he or she bothered to contact the Social Security Administration. Instead, he or she chose to state half-truths, based on his right-wing prejudices. 2) People who work illegally do not have their earnings reported to IRS. Accordingly, these earnings are not posted to their earnings records (if they have any). Therefore, Social Security cannot be paid on the basis of these earnings. In fact, those who work illegally may never be insured for Social Security. These facts are obvious, even to a person who never worked for Social Security. Apparently, they still weren't obvious to the writer of this article. John Herling, Mineola NY

I do agree that our Politicians in Washington many times take "insane" action, but the news printed in your article would a political "suicide" taking in consideration the vulnerability of the Social Security system. I considered myself an "up to date" person and I do not recall a Bill being circulated or started, and the fact the they are "building a structure" in Mexico to handle the influx of these unducumented workers...sound like a "new $3 bill". How could they possibly be thinking about giving away our Social Security to non-Americans, after we have worked sooooooo hard to put that money away for our Senior Years. How could they even think about such a thing. If they ever do try such a thing we Americans who have put the money in should file a class action suit in court against our government for giving our money away so we can get it back. Our politicans don't care they get enough money so they can live high off the hog for the rest of their lives. All there Health care and benefits are free. What do they care about us little pions without any money for our prescriptions, and food. Voter from Pennsylvania

We have had totalization agreements with almost every other country of the world, some for twenty five years. This is not a scary new thing. It just means that the U.S. pays a percentage of a workers benefits if he/she does not have enough quarters of coverage in the U.S. but DOES if quarters in another country are counted. As for an office in Mexico City, there are a lot of U.S. citizens who retire in Mexico, so maybe they need one. For those people who worked under someone else's social security number, they are paying in and usually don't and won't get anything out of it at all. If you want to be afraid of and angered about something, there are now many elderly immigrants from certain European countries who never paid into the system at all and yet are able to collect SSI. Does THAT bother you?

I can't beleive they are willing too sacrifice what we've work so hard for. I know our fore fathers came here as immigrants. Mine did from england in the year 1645. The difference is we stayed here. We didnt go back, we stayed here. This is our home an our country. I wish the polliticians would step back and take a long hard look at what they want too do. As I recalled we voted for these men and women too serve in our best interest. Not, in another country's best interest. Which would be happening if they receive social security benifits. It really astounds me that they would even consider this. We break our backs too help out our fellow men and women no matter what country they are from. And as you all know, most country's despies us. But when they need help, who do they turn too in a crisis? You got it, us thats who. And we do help without question, we are there for people from other lands that need our help. We open our hearts too anyone in need. I guess that makes us who we are. Proud too be Americans of the United States. All I'm asking is for our polliticians too take a moment and step back and think . Yes, think what if any good will this come of, for the united states citizens. Sincerly D. Shugart

It isn't bad enough that already our dollar is less than what once was. Now they will be giving our hard earned Social Security to illegals. This truly makes me upset. It would have been so much better to have put 7.8% away into my own security over the many years I had to work and support my family. As a retired individual and living on a meager income as it is, I hate to be any part of trying to live on less because "less" is truly small enough now. Then those who will be retiring after me would be living on less than that. Save our borders and be more American is what I firmly believe.

Also, you appear to using the hard sell for hand delivery. How much faster can it be than e-mail? Or are you implying that e-mails are not del'd to the Congressperson? Or is there a $ profit involved? And why must you require phone numbers and addresses? I am 100% in support of H.R.489 but because of the above comments will e-mail my Congressperson directly. Many seniors on Social Security are having a difficult time making ends meet. The cost of living increases do not begin to help as everything else is going up, up, up. Congress always manages to give themselves substantial increases in pay as well as beefing up their pension plan, which is very generous. Now they want to take money from a Social Security program that is failing to "give" money to citizens of another country. Sorry, but I don't think this is fair to our people who have worked and paid into the system all of their lives. This is just too much to swallow.

You know, its about time that all groups of legislation, congress, senators and who-ever else is involved in always wanting to give money to countries outside of the United States put a stop to it. When are you going to realize that there are people in this country that could use this money that you are so free to hand out elsewhere. Its bad enough that people from other countries come over here, take our jobs, build there businesses, get more in aide than the people that have given there lives that live in this country. These people come over here, commit crimes, take there money or send there money back to there country, show no appreciation for this country, are rude and getting more rude, life like pigs and pull our neighbor-hoods down and get more damn Social Security and free medical care and prescriptions than the people that have lived in these United States all there lives. Why don't you all take a collection of all of your moneys and send it to other countries instead of what little I have. I have worked for over 40 yrs. in this country and get very damn little compared to those who come into this country from afar. We as Americans should go to these countries as they are being vacated to come over here because there is more room in these countries since these people are now living here and may be we can cash in on all these benefits that you so willing to send to all those othe countries. This kind of thing is a very sore subject for those of us who live in this country, its time the United States of America takes care of its own.

It is about time that the United States starts taking care of its own people. The Social Security should be used strictly for United States citizens that have worked all their time in the USA (except of course the military and their families who work in jobs that are for the USA when they are stationed in other countries. France really supports us don't they? That is a sarcastic statement. My husband was station in France and I finally got to go over there with him and everywhere you turned, there was a 'YANKEE, GO HOME" and we still haven't been paid back millions or billions or whatever they owe us and now, they want to give our money to people from Mexico who are illegal in our USA. That is just completely crazy. Our elderly can't even afford the medicines they need because there hasn't been anything to help them out and their small pensions barely keep food on the table and a roof over the head. Somebody needs to wake up and smell the real roses and take care of our own people before sending it to some other country. Yes, I support the War in Iraq as I supported the one in Vietnam and it wasn't just a conflict, it was a full scale war. My Husband served two years in that place and what kind of welcome did those returning from Vietnam get when they came home. My Brother and only Son who, by law at that time did not have to as the only son, but chose to do so anyway. And still you want to send all our Social Security to people that arn't even Legal Citizens of America. When they are over here illegally, and many of them are, they get medicade because they need money to live on. I have a daughter who is a single mother and can't afford isurance on herself. Finally Texas has adopted some insurance that covers the kids to a point. What is wrong with an IDIOT THAT WANTS TO GIVE TO SOMEONE THAT ISN'T EVEN AN AMERICAN CITIZEN. The women from Mexico come over here illigally and have their babies here so they can draw money for that baby because when it is born in the USA it is considered and American Citizen even though it's mothere is illigal. They should not be Americans when they are born here, just because their mother gave birth to them in the US. I think it is time for some senators and representatives should get cuts in their salaries to pay for that money they want to send to MEXICO. Perhaps, the way we vote for those people should be changed, so that we really get the people in office that were voted on by the people and not their voting delegates. Then maybe we would have more honest hard working people in there running our government. I still don't understand a person that should have been impeached from the Presidency because of all the lies he told should get body guards to save his life when he cost our country millions of dollars because of lawsuits against him. That money could be put back in our Social Security Funds for only AMERICAN CITIZENS and not ones that entered illegally. Billie Huffman Willis, TX

Sure, just give it ALL away including the retirement, savings and s.s., of these government officials, and let's all move to Mexico.[yeah] I don't mind helping out, but this is the hight of stupid. LET'S MAKE SURE THE ONES WHO THOUGHT THIS UP DON'T GET BACK IN OFFICE, [if anything is left by then]

Giving our Social Security Benifits to illegal immagrants is outrageous !!!!! I worked hard all the years since I was 15 and was disabled at age 42.They said I barley made it to get any benifits! I get $450.00 per month - thank God my husband has good insurance- my daily meds are over $250.00 per month .Then I have my Dr visits that I had to stop from monthly to every 3-4 months -I couldn't qualify for SSI or any type of help with the health problems I have because my husband was working- BUT - one SS office worker told me if I divorced my husband I would qualify ! This land is being taken over by the "foreigners" - they own more of the USA than the Americans do.Cubans,Mexicans all can get help getting a business started and pay NO tax for 5 years-then they turn around and "sell" it to a member of their family and no taxes for another 5 years- and around it goes for 20-30 years of paying absolutely no business taxs ,Federal nor State Taxes .But God forbid if we try to deduct 1 questionable deductable- the IRS attaches everything we have until they get their money ! I have heard that the whites are RACISTS until I am sick of it. it is US,the hard working White race that is the Minority and discrimated against !And to think all these people come to "the good life" and want to be American citizens- but why is it that WE have to learn THEIR language- do you think their government would tell us if we went to live in Cuba,Haiti,or Mexico that all the "natives of that country had to learn our language so we could talk to them? NOOOO!@ I say KICK THEM BACK TO THEIR OWN COUNTRIES and let their ancestors, and their government take care of them !! SHAME on our government - we have starving children and elderly right here - but do you see 50Million coming to feed and have healthcare for them?WAKE UP CITIZENS of AMERICA - Stop the idiotic government from giving OUR hard earned tax money to the lazy illegals and other foreigners come and helping theirselves to money that they didn't help put in there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
