She is a Border Collie like the one in your picture. She also served our great country at the Pentagon at 9/11. As a K-9 handler I too am a sheep dog. Our job here in Iraq is to search out our fellow American MIA's. To all of the sheep out there,, thanks for the job security. To all of the wolves out there,,watch your backs,, we will find you! VERY GOOD EXPLANATION OF THE SITUATION. I WOULD RATHER SEE MORE SHEEP DOGS AND LESS SHEEP, BUT BEING A SHEEP WOULDN'T BE SO BAD IF THEY COULD JUST LEARN TO KEEP THEIR MOUTHS SHUT AND LET THE SHEEP DOGS DO THEIR THING AND BE PROUD WE HAVE SHEEP DOGS!!!! I LOVE THIS COUNTRY AND AM REALLY SAD TO SEE AND HEAR PEOPLE RUN DOWN OUR MILITARY. IF NOT FOR THE WONDERFUL MILITARY MEN A FEW YEARS BACK, YOU WOULD HAVE HAD TO WRITE THIS STORY IN GERMAN OR JAPANEESE AND PROBABLY NOT BEEN ALLOWED TO WRITE IT AT ALL. I have attended conferences with Retired Colonel Dave Grossman and have had the pleasure to talk with him on several occasions. He is the one whom I first encountered the Sheep, Wolf, and Sheep Dog story. I am a sheep dog and I am very proud of it. I'm 65 yrs old and I still do a lot of sniffing. I do not look for a fight, but by God I'll be there when I'm needed. God Bless America and all the Sheep Dogs everywhere.

I give a huge THANK YOU for ALL men and women in the military, here and abroad. My best friend's son was overseas for awhile and we were very thankful that God allowed him to come back home. My heart aches for the families and friends that have lost their loved ones. But, God did not call them home in Vain...we are still free to vote, we are still free to live where we choose, and we are still free to worship however we choose. I know we have many other freedoms, but I don't feel that I have to mention all of them, for I believe everyone knows what our freedoms are. Because of your faithfulness to protect the USA and all who live here, we are still FREE!!!! God Bless each one of you!!!! And may He always hold your hand, where ever you may be.

I agree so much with this whole article. I happen to be one of those sheep most of the time, but have turned sheepdog when someone or something I love gets threatened. And I am proud to say that I am the mother of one who has chosen to be a sheepdog, and is completing his training down in Mississippi at Keesler AFB so he can be able to be a great sheepdog. And I am the stepmom of one who has served and is going back as soon as he finishes his college degree. Donna B.

I understand, and deeply appreciate, and very much agree with the basic premise. However, I am sick and tired of people using the wolf as the "bad guy". Wolves are anything but "sociopaths", even though the press and some bureaucrats have tried to convince the general public that this is true. Please, use another metaphor to get your point acress...."they" are already slaughtering the wolves....Again! Thank you for the thought....and yes, I am a vet. Bennett Carey

Most people might remember the dad that was at Seneca High school with a gun it was me the student i was suppose to have attacked was a 19 year old illegal alien ,gang member Drug dealer who had already attacked my son twice before with 5 other member of the gang called EL DELOBLE So what i am trying to say is that BEWAREOF THE WOLF IN SHEEP COLTHING. it could cost you your freedom sons collage money and more PEOPLE OPEN YOUR EYES THIS IS A WAKE UP CALL

Of course we appreciate the "sheepdogs" and have always respected our police and fire departments as well as our military. I do believe that Iraqi "sheepdogs" including diplomats and Iraqi citizens who care about their country and not Americans will have to be the ones to deal with the settlement of their political and religious systems. We need the National Guard and police and fire, etc. here in the USA. We support our troops and recognize their need for respite, physica and post traumatic stress syndrome recovery, repair of their equipment. etc. Support our troops and bring them home asap.

That has to to be one of the most powerful statements I have ever read!!! Very thought out and from the heart! I only wish he had not had to write such a thing to this young lady however, my husband and I have said for more years than I can tell you, that America is exactly that...Full of Sheep! And we are those who on the day of 9/11 said..."damn I wish I had been on that plane in order to have perhaps done something to save some of those people!!!" Bless you and thank you for your service to our freedoms! Freedom is NOT free!!! It is paid for with blood, sweat and the tears of families who are proud to have lost thier loved one in order for the rest of the sheep to carry om with thier daily lives oblivious to the true dangers out there lurking! More people need to realize that "WOLVES" come in all shapes, sizes, colors, etc. Some need to realize that there is a lot of "dirty" work that gets done without anyone else knowing about it - it just happens for safety sake! Thanks for your analogy. Whether other's agree with your reference between people versus sheep, wolves & sheepdogs,or not, your truth and comparison is all so, so, real!!! We all need to wakeup and realize that we have a choice to make. We can continue following the world leadership and our liberal media when they say come here little sheep and follow what I say and you will be OK, or we can realize there are dangers out there that require us to standup and say "LET'S ROLL"! Please open your eyes and become a sheepdog not just for the betterment of others but also for your own good and the good of your entire family, as well as our entire nation!!!! Thanks again for the truth. Keep barking out the alarm!! Terry S. Lebanon, Tn.

Really interesting email , also loved the dog in it. I agree with everything but........using the wolf as an evil animal , isn't quite what I would have picked. We used to be around wolves a lot, and I know others will disagree with me. Also I know the bitter battle of the wolves in Yellowstone. Wolves do not attack and stalk people , they're afraid of people , unless they'vebeen raised around them. I always respected , though , the power of domestic wolves. You have probably heard about Wolf People in Cocolala Idaho. Though we saw them several imes a week, I always remembered they were not pets. This is dragging on........so loved everything else! Gee, I read Tamura's poems and didn't realize until the end that YOU weren't moving! How could you ever leave Kalispell ? Here in TX. yeah, but not there. We're being transferred to Colorado, Praise God! I will still use your site , no matter where we go.......and will be ordering from you at Christmas, ......probably long before. Have a great day. GREAT WAY to present such an important lesson-- a lesson that everyone needs to think about and to understand. If all of our people in this country could be fortunate enough to grasp this concept clearly and hold onto it, we would be a stronger and better country in every way. Thanks to those who took the time to so clearly articulate such a tremendous basic and clear lesson in reality. Although it is a nice things to say that here in America we have the "freedom to say or have even a bad idea" I do not like it. This is a "sheep" talk in my opinion! I want an America that has principles that will stand on so that there is no compromise on my true freedom to worship as I freely wish to express based on what this country was founded on FROM THE BEGINNING. I don't like the compromises that have taken place as it has said to me that America as a Nation has no real standard; it is now a "come as you are" and we will pay many taxes to compromise our FOUNDATION FOUNDED ON THE ORIGINAL CONSTITUTION based on Judeo/Christian Ten Commandments, ENGLISH SPEAKING FOREFATHERS WHO DIED FOR US TO HAVE A COUNTRY TO FINALLY BE FREE from: the rest of the world who went a-whoring after other countries to conquer, manipulate and control to collect taxes and taxes and taxes so that there can be no hope for any one to have a true home and a piece of land of their own! Now it is too late. We have too many wolves that have been given access to our money and our freedom to exploit us, pervert our laws that were meant to protect us and now fleece us for their own self-serving agendas - WHERE IN AMERICA WERE THESE SO-CALLED "SHEEPDOGS" THEN?????

The men in my family, and a few of the women, have been sheepdogs, going back to before the First World War. Grandmother had 12 children, raised 10 of them, so I am from a large family. My father was shell shocked and gassed in the trenches of France in WW I and suffered with his lungs the rest of his life. My 3 brothers and my cousins all served in WW II. My husband was in the last of WW II, Korea and Viet Nam. My darling nephew shed his blood and died in Nam doing his job as as sheepdog. Thank God for all our sheepdogs, for without them, this country would be controlled by the wolves, then where could the nay-sayers get to spread their poison. This is one country UNDER GOD, and I for one, loudly support all our sheepdogs. Thank God for our sheepdogs. Shirley F. Grindstaff Arizona, USA

I thank you for your courage and spirit to serve our Country! It saddens my heart as it must every service man and woman who serves our Country, to hear these young people blatenly show their ignorance and say things like this Miss Edwards did. If only they could walk a day in a Soldier's shoes, they wouldn't say the utterly stupid things that they have. I wish that I could erase all the stupid, ignorant, negative comments that are said, or written from the minds of all our service men and women's minds! WELL, I LOVE MOST OF THESE RESPONSES; HOWEVER, THE PERSON WHO SIGNED "E.T." SHOULD BE ADVISED THAT I THINK YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS USING PROPAGANDA-----YOU SEEM TO CARE MORE ABOUT THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ THAN YOU DO OUR NATION. IRAQ WAS AND IS OUR ENEMY----JUST GIVE THEM A CHANCE AND SEE WHERE YOU WILL END UP ! THAT IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH OUR NATION NOW-----WE HAVE TOO MANY HERE WHO NEED TO BE IN OTHER COUNTRIES----NOT ENJOYING AMERICA'S FREEDOM AND BLESSINGS AND THEN TAKING SIDES WITH THE ENEMY COUNTRIES. YES, I THINK IT IS TIME OUR MEN AND WOMEN WERE BROUGHT HOME; HOWEVER, WE SHOULD LEAVE IT AT SAYING THAT AND PRAY THAT THEY WILL BE BROUGHT HOME SOON BUT STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS COUNTRY. HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU WERE OVER THERE FIGHTING AND YET KNOWING PEOPLE BACK HOME, INCLUDING YOUR OWN FAMILY MEMBERS, WERE FINDING FAULT WITH EVERYTHING FROM A TO Z CONCERNING THIS GREAT COUNTRY ? IT WOULD NOT DO MUCH FOR YOUR MORALE YOU CAN BET THAT ! JUST KEEP YOUR OPINIONS TO YOURSELF IF YOU CANNOT GIVE THEM SOMETHING TO HANG ON TO ! THEY NEED THEIR MORALE BOOSTED AND NOT DESTROYED. DO YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR FREEDOM HERE OR EQUALITY HERE, OR ABOUT HOW ANYONE FROM ANY NATION CAN COME HERE AND ENJOY LIFE AS WE KNOW IT ? THE JAPANESE BOMBED OUR POOR MEN AND WOMEN AT PEARL HARBOR AND YET THEY WERE STILL ALLOWED TO ENTER THIS NATION AND LIVE AND ENJOY LIFE AS AMERICANS DO. I HAVE BEEN AT PEARL HARBOR AND HEARD YOUNG JAPANESE CHEER WHEN THE FILM OF THE PLANES OVERHEAD BOMBED OUR SHIPS WHICH WERE LIKE SITTING DUCKS IN THE HARBOR. WHAT OTHER NATION WOULD ALLOW PEOPLE FROM THE VERY COUNTRY WHO BOMBED US TO SIT AND WATCH THE HORRIBLE DESTRUCTION THEIR ANCESTORS INFLICTED UPON OUR MEN AND WOMEN THERE AND CHEER ? IN OTHER COUNTRIES, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN ARRESTED, TORTURED AND MURDERED FOR THAT ! I THINK WE SHOULD REFRAIN FROM THESE DRASTIC MEASURES, BUT I DO NOT FEEL WE SHOULD SIT BACK AND ALLOW SUCH DISRESPECT AS THIS WITHOUT SOME PENALTY. THAT SHIP STILL HAS THE REMAINS OF THOSE PITYFUL SAILORS TRAPPED INSIDE-------DO YOU COMPLAIN THAT WE WENT AFTER JAPAN AND REPAID THEM FOR WHAT THEY DID TO US THERE? LEAVE THESE OTHER COUNTRIES ALONE THAT ARE OUR ENEMIES, AND YOU MAY GET JUST WHAT WE GOT AT PEARL HARBOR ! NEVER, NEVER FORGET PEARL HARBOR ! IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN ! AS FOR YOUR COMMENT ABOUT ISRAEL-------BE CAREFUL BECAUSE YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE APPLE OF GOD'S EYE HERE--------YOU MAY HAVE THE FREEDOM TO TALK ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT AND OUR COUNTRY, BUT YOU ARE NOT FREE TO FIND FAULT WITH ISRAEL BECAUSE GOD, HIMSELF, WILL FIGHT AGAINST THOSE WHO FIGHT AGAINST ISRAEL ! JCO

Well, I read down the column to the many responses which were in a nut shell--God Bless Our Troops. That is my hope also-- I am a Korean War Veteran, My Two brothers were also US Military and my one Brother's only son was a Marine, my son was US airforce, and I have a Grandson that is an Officer in the military,--Also I came under enemy fire so when derogatory statements are made about us sheep claiming we are not supporting our troops if we disagree with the present policys of this or prior administrations I want you to know that I have been there and done that in a differnt era and of course only 50 some thousand died in the war of my era. All of the congrats given the author are because the thoughts of the people are so shallow. Of course we support the Troops, do you think I would condemn my own military children. We oppose the illegal entry into war, That makes our Children operate as Murderers when they are forced to kill people who had not attacked us,650,000 dead Iraqi's later and you are still hollering support our troops when you should be hollering bring our troops home. The Iraqi's never attacked us. Nor did the Afghan's. But we are killing them left and right. Remote user posting at 12:02:54 on 01 Sept. 07 seems to be one of the very very few thinking individuals posting responses to this Sheep, wolf, sheepdog story. Its as I said in an earlier posting, Pure propaganda. ET in Nebr.

This was very moving and so very truthful. We need all of our sheepdogs to be there for all of us. Please know that I have always appreciated all our sheepdogs male and female. I would not be where I am, doing what I love to do, without their help. So, to all of the sheepdogs ou there here is a big pat on the head and hug around your neck. Thank you and hopefully this will reach alot of people and make them realize how luck we all are to be here with our sheepdogs!!!

As the very proud mother of a Marine "Sheep Dog" who has returned from Iraq and has reupped because he believes in what he's doing, all I can say to you freedom freeloaders, get on your knees and thank God for these brave young men and women. They've got your back while you enjoy your selfish lives. If you can't stand behind our troops, STAND IN FRONT OF THEM. Every time I see a soldier, I make of point of going up to them, shaking their hand and saying THANK YOU. These young heroes lay their lives on the line every minute of the day, on a volunteer basis, to keep your freedom free. Shame on all of you that take this beautiful country for granted. The only animals that enjoy your negative comments is the enemy.

Having researched the 911 catastrophy, and heard the views of the most highly qualified and most honest investigators whose only agenda was to find who was really behind 911 I recognize this article as another elaborate propaganda piece condoned by the very people responsible for the deliberate demolition of Buildings deemed to expensive to maintain or to bring down in an approved manner. It gave a means to pull off the largest insurance scam in History, an excuse to propagandise the US into an illegal war against 2 countrys that had no involvement in 9/11/2001. So far as the Sheep dog never harming innocent sheep of his own, he conveniently forgot the Waco Massecre where these wonderful sheepdogs murdered the 17 little children and their mothers and fathers just to show they could. It has been irrefutebly proven that no cell phone call could work above 2000 ft at the time of that fake conversation where this brave soul even had to tell his mother his last name, would you have to tell your Mom your last name if you made an emergency call. I think not. The very fact that no investigation was permitted by legitimate investigators was sufficient proof to any but those totally disinterested and apathetic, that this was a preplanned demolition by people within this Government and in concert with others in other governments, Namely Israel for one, is very apparent. Bottom line, This is more Smoke for those who's eyes may be opening. ET

GOD BLESS all our "Sheepdogs", for the actual Sheepdogs protect the sheep from the Wolf. Our "Sheepdogs" are our Armed Forces, Law-Enforcement, Fire-men, and many others, that have protected all of us from the day this country was settled. There have been terrible wars pushed upon us,in which many have fought to their death to keep the "Wolf" from taking over. They have fought on our shores as well as on foreign lands, to save the "Sheep" from ultimate distruction and death. Do not condemn our people (Sheep-Dogs) that have given you the freedoms to live in peace, the right to choose how you live. The People of our society are NOT forced into serving us as protectors, but go willingly, following the dictates of their hearts, as they are natural born protectors, and do their job knowing they are putting their life on the line for you, the "Sheep", that need protected. Give them praise, the respect they deserve, appreciation for what they do. For without them, we will be destroyed by the "Wolves" at the door. GOD BLESS OUR PROTECTORS, and GOD BLESS the U.S.A., AMEN Jack Culp(World War 11 Navy SEA-Bees)and wife, Laura Culp

Those that just grow like Topsy with out any effort put forth by the parents, grow to be real wolves. They have no regard for themselves or anyone else. The discipline in the United States went out the window when the Gov. took over. We raised four very self responsible children, two of them are now retired from good jobs they held.

The Ms Edwards and peaceniks of the world make me crazy. They are so quick to dishonor our brave service members for every little infraction that may occur in wartime. But are so quick to ignore the atrocities of our enemies. For instance while our troops are working hard to rebuild Iraq’s hospitals, schools and infrastructure, the bad guys are doing everything they can to destroy schools, hospitals, blowing up themselves, innocent shoppers, students and civilians by the thousands. They behead people on a regular basis while they are awake and conscious. All we see in our liberal press is how bad we are because we may have put panties on their heads. If our troops should in the process of protecting and rebuilding their country injure or kill a civilian they ostracize our troops. Our troop may as well walk around with a target painted on their bodies because they are clearly dressed and easily identifiable as American soldiers. The bad guys are dressed like the population at large and are not easily identifiable. Again we are bad if we mistakenly injure or kill a civilian because they are not easily distinguishable. Peaceniks do not seem to understand that freedom is not FREE. They think our government is taking their freedoms and civil rights away when in fact they are doing the dirty work that must be done to preserve these rights. In the meantime they don't examine our enemies lack of freedom and lack of civil rights and realize if we do not stand against the enemy we will have the same non-existent freedom and lack of civil right the enemy now has. I sure wish they would come to their senses and see that we go to war to preserve our freedom the enemy is at war to take our freedom away. The biggest mistake they make is thinking that if we stopped protecting our freedom the enemy will stop trying to take them away. The enemy will only be encouraged to step up the pace to our demise. If the peaceniks don’t have the courage to protect themselves the least they can do is be grateful and thankful of the individuals who will put their lives and bodies on the line on their behalf. May God always be with and protect our brave warriors, Amen

Thank GOD for the sheepdogs who protect those of us who are sheep and those who are the parents of sheepdogs. My son is on his third tour of duty in Iraq and has one of the hardest emotional jobs in the Corp. Though he does not consider the job hard, rather a privilge to be able to rescue the casualties of war. He is a pilot in a CasVac unit of the United States Marine Corp. He sees what this war does to our men and women everyday, yet he continues to do his job. Why do American's not understand that if we the people of the United States do not help defend countries where terrorist are so rampant that those same terrorist will be in the United States next torturing our people and killing our loved ones right here in our homes. Actually I believe they are already here, just waiting for the right time to strike again just like 0n 9/11/2000 when they destroyed so many lives in New York City. Who is next? My family knows the cost of freedom. The public attitude toward American service men is shameful. I guess they need another 9/11 to open their eyes. Every young person needs to read this. It is a little long and I'm afraid it would not hold a young person's attention long enough for them to comprehend the message. I will send it out to my email friends. This article really says it all in a very easy to understand way for everyone. Yes, there are a few bad guys in every group, but we need to look at the rest who are the good guys and they out number the bad by far. They are here to help and protect us, same as all our military men and women. They put their lives in harms way for US every day and we should be greatful and thankful that they care enough to be there, and they don't even know us personaly because it doesn't matter to them. It's time for some to wake up and see the real world and know who and why they are free to speak their mind, but stop putting down the ones that protect them. Shirley, from Iowa

I am not a young person but I feel like that if I were I would be in the service. When I was about 9 or 10 years of age, my parents and three sibblings lived in a town in AR. Just north of Little Rock and we lived only a half a block from the hiway that the troups would go through when being moved. The lines were long and when we saw the first one that showed up we four kids ran to the corner and would way to each truck that went around that corner. And,YES, they all waved back. To this day when I see a person in uniform my eyes get wet with tears and my throat gets a lump in it. The men and women in the service are told where to go and they go. They may not like it but they are there. The fellow in the letter calls people who are against it sheep. In the BIBLE Jesus said "Then sheep know MY voice". That is the kind of sheep I want to be. I will be at some future time. It also says in the BIBLE that there will be 'wars and rumors of wars.' They had wars in BIBLE times and we are having them now. Thank you to all service men. My son war in the air force. I have a nephew who is a pilot of the f16 and is in the air force. I also have two great-nephews who are pilots in the air force that have just joined. I am proud to say I am proud of all of them. Marla B.

My Grandson now is a marine who like his granddad is willing to give his life so as the rest of us can live free, All of you who are against this was had better sit back and look around you for the wolfs ar here and they will eat you alive they are know today as musulims and they want to kill each and every one of us here in the good old U.S.A. and that is why we have such good people like our president who understand this and are willing to take the heat from the rest of you who are not, Rest easy America for my Grandson and every other United States marine has you back. thanks you for letting me vent, William j Brundies former U.S.M.C.

I ALSO WANT TO ADD THAT TO ME IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE A DISGRACE UPON THIS NATION FOR HOW THE MEN WHO FOUGHT IN THAT HELL HOLE VIETNAM WERE SO MISTREATED WHEN THE FEW ARRIVED HOME----SOME WITH DESTROYED MINDS----SOME WITH ARMS AND LEGS MISSING----SOME WITH FOREVER AILMENTS---SOME WHO HAVE SINCE TAKEN THEIR OWN LIVES OR WHO WENT ON LIVING HALF A LIFE ! HOW CAN YOU WHO WERE AMONG THOSE WHO SPAT UPON THEM AND WHO REFUSED TO TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT EVEN LOOK AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR TODAY ? WHAT A STUPID AND UNGRATEFUL BUNCH OF PEOPLE YOU WERE AND STILL ARE WHO CAN MISTREAT ANY SOLDIER FOR THEIR PART IN ANY WAR REGARDLESS OF WHETHER IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FOUGHT OR NOT ! DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT THEY COULD NOT CONTROL WHERE AND WHEN THEY HAD TO GO TO BATTLE ? BLAME CONGRESS OR THE PRESIDENT OR SOMEONE ELSE, BUT DO NOT PLACE THE BLAME UPON THESE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SO BRAVELY WENT WHEN THEY WERE CALLED TO DO THEIR JOB. SOMEDAY THE CHILDREN OF THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE SPEAKING EVIL OF THESE GREAT WARRIORS MAY HAVE TO GO AND FIGHT AND DIE FOR THIS COUNTRY----HOW WILL YOU FEEL THEN WHEN THEY RETURN HOME WEARY FROM THE BATTLE AND HEAR THE CURSING AND THE FAULT-FINDING WITH THEM RATHER THAN SHOWING THE RESPECT THEY DESERVE? I IMAGINE IT WILL BRING IT HOME TO YOU HOW YOU MISTREATED THOSE BEFORE THEM ! I MAY NOT AGREE WITH SOME OF THE WARS WE HAVE GONE INTO, BUT I WOULD NEVER FOR ONE MOMENT HAVE ANYTHING BUT LOVE AND RESPECT AND SINCERE GRATITUDE FOR THESE WONDERFUL MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED SO VALIANTLY FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ! Yes, there are a lot of "sheep" in this country. People who follow their leader without thinking where the leader is taking them - even if it leads into the abyss. We are grateful for the "sheepdogs" but they only do what the leader tells them, they are not allowed to use their God-given instincts to determine whether they are following the leader into the abyss. The analogy used by this sheepdog writer is not accurate. A more accurate analogy would be the sheepdogs attacking a different herd of sheep who were being led by a few wolves rather than attacking the wolves that originally attacked us. In other words, had the U.S. attacked Mexico after Pearl Harbor, it would be like the U.S. attacking and occupying Iraq after Saudi Arabians (who were not representing any country, however) flew those planes on 9/11. I admire the men and women of our military and the sacrifices they make for our country. I just think that their Commander-in-Chief has motives other than "protecting" the citizens of this country. That does not make me a sheep. It makes me a person who thinks and refuses to allow fear of the "wolves" to guide my thoughts and actions. Terrorism cannot be defeated militarily. Nor can an insurgency (remember, the U.S. was founded by insurgents who defeated the world's largest military at the time). Yes, we need protection from those who would do us harm. But that protection must come from those trained to ferret out and punish them (police, undercover government agents, etc.) Our military has not been trained to accomplish these goals. If an army invades this country, they will be defeated by our military, easily. But to invade another country with our army when that country did nothing to harm us, has only brought about more deaths of innocent people than ever died on 9/11 and the disdain (and, in some cases, hatred) from the rest of the world. So, this young woman from the Univ. of Washington was, in my opinion, not correct in her view of a real military hero. But the writer of this response is also incorrect in his view of what the sheepdogs are doing for this country, however noble he thinks the cause is.

I am a person who has truly LIVED with WOLVES, SHEEPDOGS AND SHEEP FOR MANY YEARS! Of course, at first, I thought, WOW- my kind of kids. I opened the letter about a woman who actually felt, though she has NO experience concerning the subject matter, due to the wonderful FREEDOM of speach, plus other goodies in the U.S. of A., she'll find some others to agree with her feelings. Sad, but true, though the response was also, I feel, not true to form of the analgy of WOLVES, SHEEP AND SHEEPDOGS! Please note, as each and every one, human, bird, animal, FISH, reptile, amphibian are totally different INDIVIDUALLY! There are some very important and vital things to cause certain feelings and actions concerning situations throughout the life of all! Genetics, environment and training all play a special part, BUT some work separate from these at times due to certain circumstances and situations. WOW, humans are like that too --- right!! First, I must say that MOST SHEEPDOGS, IF YOU ARE A STUDENT OF SAME, LIKE ME, ARE white, just like the sheep! Great Pyranese, Komondor, and Kuvasc come to mind first. They are like the sheep in color only. Therefore, the predators don't usually see them as such. Aha! The HERDING breeds, such as the Border Collie, Sheltie, and Collie (rough & smooth) usually have markings BUT seriusly, there ARE white ones in these breeds as well. Now, the REAL one -- for over 40 years I raised, trained & bred as well as sold and gave away GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS (some are white too)! Aha! Double duty is evident in this breed as we all know PLUS! In my studies I have, what I feel is the answer to the reason this particular dog is more versatile than others!! I love to tell folks about the beginnings of these dogs I dearly love so much. It is a fact that most breeds of dogs were developed by individuals or a group on a hobby basis for what they want in a dog for their purpose. I love to mention that Herr Doberman was a TAX COLLECTOR! If you'd like, look closely at their TEETH and you will see that between the 4 fangs the middle ones are larger and more jagged than other dogs!! They rip and tear the flesh (hence the pinching name)! The Boxer and the Dobie are the only dogs to use their feet as well as their mouths when fighting. I read of a case where a big dog had a Dobee down, usually the loser, but he actually DISEMBOWLED the dog who had him by the throat and down. KOOL Hunting instincts are abound in the hound and sporting breeds. They are built for their original purpose. Short muzzles and pushed back noses on the bulldog breeds, Pug etc., are this way so the dog can hold on tight, locking the jaws and stil be able to breathe easily. Now, Max von Stephonitz, who was the founder of the German Shepherd Dog, was a soldier, and not until he retired from the military did he begin his breedings. Of course, he had to use some WHITE sheepdogs to bring in that talent. However, he wanted an all arounder. I feel because he devoted the rest of his entire life to this task, he succeeded in giving us the one dog who, depending on some very important factors; GENETICS, ENVIRONMENT AND TRAINING! They'ready to do what is asked at any given moment -- AND add to that an inborn instinct of loyalty when most needed. Yes, I'm partial to them, but just look at the records.!! I lived for THIRTEEN years with a real WOLF. They are truly more FAMILY ORIENTED of most predator types -- Ha! Respect is foremost within the pack. Only ONE MATING PAIR is permitted, yet ALL join in the raising, feeding and training of the cubs. I like that! They do NOT kill unless for a good reason!! Sheep on the other hand are very clannish, but meek with a very mild temperment except those great leaders the RAMS to keep the ewes & lambs content! Have you ever been butted by one? Doesn't tickle either -- God's creations are so very different, as are we, and being judged as a whole, doesn't always run true for the INDIVIDUAL! I know, I've been with them all. I've raised CATTLE, HORSES, GOATS, SHEEP, DOvES, QUAIL, TURKEYS, PEACOCKS, CHICKENS, GERBILS, SIAMESE CATS, RABBITS, ENGLISH POINTERS, AND, OF COURSE, GERMAN SHEPHERD DOGS; AND TWO SONS WHO BOTH BECAME DOCTORS! Know that each and every one has a purpose and it truly shows how wonderful our Father has done in the plans for cultural differences which truly abound even today. Have a good one and may GOD BLESS YOU ALL! Norma Freas Ramey

Thank you. Thank you 1,000 times. I'm an old retired engieer and all my like have not been as articulate as you have accomplished with your "Sheep Dog" letter. Whenever I thought about myself, I called myself a "Leo" (born in August). I would seldom read horoscopes, but when I did, I would say, "yep, that's me", a true Leo. After reading your letter, I'm no longer a Leo. I'm am clearly a "Sheep Dog". Looking back, there have been many situations where it was necessary for me to step forward. Often the first to step forward. I'm been a proud "Sheep Dog" and have always held this pride inside not knowing it. Your three categories are so very accurate. I'm a pilot and over the years, I have classified everyone in the world into two groups. The "Doer's" and the "Gunna Doer's". Most of the people I meet after I have accomplished a feat will say, "I'm gunna do that some day" but they never do. On the other hand, the Doers, go out and do it and look for the next adventure with very little talk about what they have just done. Now, I will put aside my classification system and adopt yours. Finally, I'm a Viet Nam Vet. With your classification system, where do you put those cowards that fled to Canada when they were called upon? Is there a category far less than sheep? Thank you Brother-of-the-SheepDogs. You are TRUELY a friend of God and His people ! I have often wondered why, even after knowing the terminology of 'sheep' and 'the flock', (as mentioned serveral times in the Bible) why I have never been content in being a sheep or even a 'sit-on-the-porch' 'SheepDog'! Native of an Amish community south of Iowa City, Ia, I've always respected even all 'conscieous objectors' and am proud of their stand. But MORE so proud to think of the 'SheepDogs' that PROVIDE that ABILITY for these. Bless you in your efforts for the voting privalage over there. We need to remember how VERY LONG it took OUR country to come to a Constitution !!!! Even after KNOWING, for the most part, it was ALREADY available to us in the BIBLE ! And if not cautious we'll be DOOMED to repeat the TRAGIC history past, as presented thruout the Old Testiment. Unlike other "religions" that have an ultimate 'goal' in 'controlling' the world and dominance. Christianity seeks to live with-in man-made governments. THANK YOU SHEEPDOGS FOR YOUR UNTIREING VIGILANCE AND ALERTNESS TO STAND BETWEEN ME AND THE WOLF . TO PROTECT YOUR UNBELIVER IN YOU WHO TRY CONSTANTLY TO RUN AWAY FROM THE FLOCK AS WELL AS THOSE WHO DO BELIVE AND LOVE YOU HAS TO HURT AT TIMES WITH WHAT THEY SAY AND DO . I found the write up very interesting and put the subject of defence in a good perspective. I went into the service just before the Vietnam war became serious. Because of a heart problem I could have stayed home and in fact tried to join several times before the army accepted me. I chose to go into the service because I knew that my way of life and the freedoms and civil rights I enjoyed was a direct result of the generations of people before me fought to defend those priviledges. I knew it was now my turn and oblication to do my part. I did not join because I liked war or the idea of killing other people I didn't even know. I did it so my children and grand children could enjoy those same civil rights and freedom I had and still have. God bless our civil servants and service people for doing their part to preserve those freedoms as I go into the future as a sheep knowing that the sheep dogs are there to protect me and my family. My heart goes out to the fools who are sheep but believe they can rise up to protect themselves without the physical means, weapons, conditioning and training when the time comes. I'm now 67 and physically unable to protect myself. There are millions more like me. We need and depend on the sheep dogs doing their jobs. May God Bless and Protect them.

What a wonderful contribution. Yes, some do not want to enter into any conflict, but we know that all through history, there has been sheepdogs, Praise God for them, and I am so thankful that we have them. Since 9/11 we have, we have had so many brave sheepdogs step in for our country to keep the sheep safe from harm from the wolves that would come in and destroy this country. This country has had wolves come in to destroy us from time as far back as we can remember but if it wasn't for the brave ones that have stood up to defend us, we would be like those in China, N.Korea, and all countries that are under opression. So be thankful America, we have precious sheepdogs, willing to go before the sheep, stave off the starving, power hungry wolves to keep America a Free and Victorious nation. God Bless these precious men and God Bless America. Suzanne. Romance,AR

Interesting analogy but I don't think it applies to humans. ^ A quote taken from another comment. I believe it can apply to humans. Most of us are sheep in the fact that we believe everything the media WANTS us to belive. So much false reporting is done and we do nothing about it because we don't know better. Sheep must trust the shepherd and his dog. It has been proven that sheep are the dumbest animals on this planet and they need to be protected even from themselves. When a shepherd in old times used his sling and stone it was done for two reasons. One was to scare away the beast or kill it, and the other was to throw the stone on the opposite side of a wandering sheep to bring it back to the fold. (just a bit of trivia) The article was well written but like someone else commented, it makes the writer look like he was on an ego trip. (like some guy on another forum I am on. He could have written the article)) I, too, would like to think I could do something to foil a high-jacker. All we would have to do is start throwing everything in sight at him. Or beat him with our handbags and fannypacks. Yeah. The shepherds and watchdogs are keeping the wolves from getting to us. And I appreciate each and every one of them. No matter how much I am against this war I will support and stand by our military. Let's just pray oil isn't in the equation. (right!)

This is a very well written article. It clarifies many issues. Since 9-11 we live in a different world. On that day thousands of innocent Americans went off to work to help provide for their families. There was no thought that they would never see their loved ones again. Evil people used our free system of travel to commit their evil acts. Now we must be always aware of these possibilities. We need the service people and first responders who provide for our safety and must be ever grateful for their service to us all. We also must be aware of the necessity of using airport security to prevent this terror from ever happening again. It might be inconvenient to go through security procedures, but it is a necessity because of the evil people who use any means to inflict their false ideology on us all. Thank the security screeners. thank the first responders and thank our service men and women. GOD BLESS THEM ALL AND GOD BLESS AMERICA !!!!!

first i must say it was well written, to the point, and describes people to a T. i was born a sheep, and remain a sheep at heart, but life has taught me to be a sheepdog when necessary. wolves are out there in great numbers and hiding your head in the sand does not make them go away. it is a hard choice to become a sheepdog, but when it comes to life or death, or improving life or going downhill---i for one, choose to become that sheepdog and fight for improvement and life. i thank God for our servicemen and women as well as our law officers and those who stand guard and are ready, willing and able to defend us sheep. may we, as individuals and a nation, never become so silentand passive that we forget to hold up our heads with thankful hearts that we have sheepdogs who are willing to fight to the end,if necessary, to protect us from our enemies, the wolves. Thanks again & again and may our Heavenly Father lead, guide, guard and protect you sheepdogs and watch over you as you protect us sheep, especially those of us who sometimes stray from the group seeking what we think are greener pastures, only to find ourselves in greater danger from the lurking wolves. Praise God and with heartfelt Thanks for our Sheepdogs

IT'S A WONDERFUL FEELING TO BE A HUMAN ANIMAL MISSING ONE RIB. WHAT WOULD I HAVE DONE WITHOUT ADAM? HE WAS GREAT COMING WITH HIS WOLF WHEN I WAS HIGH JACK 20 YEARS AGO, WAITING MY TURN ON THE FREEWAY. ADAM WAS A POLICE OFFICER WHO SAID, "MAM,THERE IS ONE THING THAT HASN'T HAPPENED TO YOU YET." HE WAS RIGHT! I WALK WITH THE SHEEP, SHEEPDOGS AND MY GRANDFATHER'S OTHER DESERT TORTOISE. FAR TO OLD TO RUN WITH COYOTE AND WOLVES AND THE BLOOD OF MY NATIVE ANCESTORS,WITH TINY BONES.

BLESSED IS THE WATER THAT COMES DOWN THE MOUNTAIN, TO THE FLOOR OF SAND WHERE MANY OF US LIVE. SINCE, I AM THE OLDEST TORTOISE, MY NAME IS MOSES. AND, ALL I KNOW, AMONG MY 2 DAUGHTERS AND ME THERE'S 27 TURTLE EGGS BENEATH THE SAND. BUT, I HAD THE BEST SHOVEL. WE ATE FLOWERS FROM THE PALA VERDE TREES. (PALA) STICK. (VERDE) GREEN. (PALO) SHOVEL. NOW WE ALL SPEAK SPANISH. SAN BERNARDINO (VALLEY OF HAZE). DEATH VALLEY (VALLEY OF FIRE), IN THE (RING OF FIRE). 20 MILES EAST, THERE'S MORE OF MY TORTOISE CHILDERN IN YUCAIPA (SHAKEY GROUND). FURTHER EAST ARE THE BIG HORNS, BUT, SSHEEP, COYOTES, SHEEPDOGS LIVE NEAR ME. A FEW WOLVES HERE FOR PETS.

I was impressed at the way it was put. I never really thought of myself as a sheep or a sheepdog. Perhaps I am just the one who is willing to feed the sheep and the sheepdog or pet both of them. I think there has to be more than just the three choices but I do agree that we do need at least those 3 choices. If you didn't have the sheep you wouldn't have wool or food. They serve the nation in a different way. If I was on one of those hijacked planes I have no idea what I would have done. I hope I would not panic -- I hope I would have a clear mind ... and courage to do what would be best. That doesn't make me a sheepdog. It makes just makes me "ME" just like the young lady who voiced her opinion -- she was being herself speaking out which I gather was her right. So you see, I have had courage to speak out in this forum but that doesn't make me a sheepdog ... and I don't feel like a sheep. I am very aware there is evil ... Wolves aren't the only threat to sheep ... There are some things a sheepdog can't protect the sheep and sometimes they can't even protect themselves even from each other. Interesting analogy but I don't think it applies to humans.
