Well, I think that the wealthy have been blessed with much, many of whom have worked hard to earn it. To whom much is given, much is expected. So those that have are taxed greater than those who have not. There are many have nots who are most deserving of programs etc. to help them survive. There are many have nots who have chosen to not work. Lets not punish those who truly are unable to help themselves and also not expect the wealthy to pay for everything. There have been many taxation proposals made, some of which would be more fair than how we pay now. To all pay the same, $5 or $5oo could be considered unfair to the one who only earned $5. How about taxes that actually reflect ones ability to pay and still provide food and shelter for their families.

To whom may concern: it sounds like too me that they're telling us if we don't like it here we should leave and go to Europe.

This story is very slanted in favor of the wealthy in that all of us are made to suffer for the wealthy person no longer paying the tax at this "dinner" We do not punish the wealthy for being wealthy. Without taxes the infrassstructure will fail, schools will fail and the economy will fail. This story is designed to confuse the lower classes into voting against their own interests and allowing the wealthy to use the working people of the U.S. as virtual wage slaves. The actual percentages of one's income versus their cost of living is immensely skewed in favor of the wealthy who continue to buy political favor to allow them to pay little, if any, tax. Wm. S. This is an easy way to see how some people get things for nothing, and then don't always appreciate what they are given. There is a wide range of salaries in this country, but people who do an honest day's work for an honest day's pay can at least sleep at night knowing they are contributing to society and not just asking for a handout. Nobody says life is fair.

I think we should have everyone taxed the same amount straight across the board. If you make $5 or $500! And I think we should not let those in office be able to give themselves their own raises. And why sould THEY have all this big retirement? If they had to live on what they give us to live on, things would change. We will never see any of this come to pass, because the government is so crooked. They are not going to kill the goose who laid the golden egg!

Excellent! I'm in the middle of the pack, but, have many friends at both ends and this is so true of the comments I hear. The tax system is broken and needs major rehauling -- would like to think something could be done in my lifetime. But, since politicians live in their own private little world, it's doubtful.

Do we want to be like England for instance> They do NOT have the standard of living that the average American has, most do not live in the burbs, have two or more cars, thre TV's,etc. They pay recessive taxes, of course there are some in this country that do also. The democrats(sic) want to tax the rich and give to the poor. Great but why not make all able bodied people work at SOMETHING to feed at the TaxpayersPot of Gold! Now we have illegals feeding at our pot as well as generations on welfare most of whom don't want to work even tho many do. Fed up? Vote out the idiots in Government> Whoops we might almost have to start over. Might not be too bad!Vote for people who have your real interests at heart! Not Political exoediency to keep the Party interest. Fight "over there" NOT over here!

Interesting concept to ponder. I know certain folks will not 'get it' as they have a tunnel vision and want to blame the wealthier for everything. If that be the case, just look at the politicians who have control now and see what they DON"T pay and also the perks they get as we working stiffs keep foolishly voting certain factions back in over and over again. They promise to help the downtrodden? I think not. Businesses keep this country going and food on our tables. Politicians are the culprit here who have taxed us over and over and over. Let's really pay attention to see who we vote for. Who will INCREASE our tax burdens. Beware and look closely. Has nothing to do with the wealthy business man who is not involved in politics. I know... they are far and few in between, But think about it.

This is good!! I am in a middle income level. We pay so much in taxes and fees every day of our life. Way more than is needed without a wasteful government! A flat tax would be good! It should not be necessary to have a 6 inch thick tax code book to generate our country's revenues. We, the taxpayers, could change all of this tomorrow. We could change it the same way we could change the ticket prices to sporting events. That is, by not showing up! But, we will never do it and that's a shame!

The money tree really made me think.A great solution but wouldn't happen in real life.No-one takes taxes to heart while they're making money. They would have to be great pals to let people away without paying anything!!

I think this money tree page is a joke about the fat cats. If we would go to a flat sales tax on everything. No loop holes. Finally taxes could be easy and fair for all. Bet a 3% sales tax with no loop holes would be all the taxes needed. Ok, maybe we would have to cut back a little on what we pay out to take care of people here illegally. And perhaps if we would stop occupying IraQ just to ensure we keep their oil flowing, we would have plenty of tax money.   Signed - Another American hanging onto a small branch of the money tree.
