This op-ed piece is a powerful piece of writing. I support everything said therein. I am pro Bush, pro the need to confront a madman as is Saddam Hussein, pro our military and very much pro America. I shall address specific events. I believe that the comments made by that member of the "Dxie Chicks" country music fame are nothing less than disgusting. If we purchase another Dixie Chick CD, we are in effect supporting her anti-America rhetoric. They are not equal to the Jane Fonda treason to her country actions. Fonda's action during the time I was in Vietnam were unbelievable. Yet as a so called "media idol" she has essentially escaped the punishment she should have received. I am also very concerned that "American" news reporters have downplayed the support and military achievements due Great Britian. Prime Minister Tony Blair was and still is a crucial factor in this war with Iraq. So lets give credit where cedit is due. Great Britian, Australia and others have shed blood to rid Iraq of Saddam so lets address this issue to a greater extent, getting away from what "America" has achieved. While most note worthy, "America" is not doing it alone. Joseph G. Hoover CDR (Ret.) USN, North Carolina

I agree with you. It is about time someone said something about the entertainment industry as well as the "every day" type protesters. While I do believe in the freedom of speech, I feel there is a time and place for it. What these people are doing is hurting many innocent people. Do they ever think about the family and friends of our military?! It is bad manners, rude, disrespectful, and disgusting. Feel however you want to, but you do not have to voice it. I wonder how they would feel if one of theirs was killed, whether it be in the line of duty or by an act being done on the United States? Would they not hurt just as much or miss just as much. Have they any "real" feelings at all or are they just so impressed with themselves and getting on the news that they have no concsious. You know the golden rule - do unto others as YOU WOULD HAVE other do unto you? Do they ever think about that? To me it is a matter of caring and showing that you care. Don't support the war if you don't want to, but don't do it in a way that is hurtful to others. I have been very surprised at some of the entertainers that have come out against the war. I thought I knew who the main ones would be, but others have surprised me. Here is hoping that some of them will come to this site and actually read some of the letters. I am also hoping that some of them will listen and understand that they need to be just ordinarily polite!! pd, bakersfield

100% out to lunch! Your research on this war and on the US constitution is obviously minimal. Firstly- you slander the Hollywood entertainers for exercising their right to free speech. Secondly, you make claims that they do not support the troops and that is ludicrous... supporting the troops and believing in the war are TWO ISSUES. Thirdly- Our media, who is owned in most part by the same people who HOG the oil revenues worldwide are the same people. PLEASE WAKE UP!!! They have some narrow-minded individuals believing they are liberating the peoples of Iraq. Why don't we liberate spouces from abusive relationships with a gun? Get real people- we would not be there if it was not for the oil. We have enough homeless people, enough people in bad marriages, enough people in dead end poverty careers right here in "GOOD OLD USA."

Honestly --- I do believe ALL Americans have the right to express his/her opinion - and gagging one group is really un-American. No one is holding a gun to one's head to make them listen to whomever is speaking. As for a boycott - that is everyone's right to do or no. As President Theodore Roosevelt said in 1918 -- "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." My prayers are with you -for the safe return of all of our loved ones, including my own son.

Bush's government- 2004 budget which will CUT funding for veteran's health care and benefit programs by nearly $25 billion over the next ten years. Ain't that cool. It narrowly passed by a vote of 215 to 212, and came just a day after Congress passed a resolution to "Support Our Troops." How exactly does this vote support our troops? Send them off to war and reduce CARE when they get home. I believe we should "Support our troops". Bush is not supporting them, why do you support Bush? You better re-read what I just said. SCARY. When President Bush was appointing members to serve on his cabinet I have to ask U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell what he was thinking when he wrote in his autobiography: "I am angry that so many of the sons of the powerful and well-placed...managed to wangle slots in Reserve and National Guard units... Of the tragedies of Vietnam, this raw class discrimination strikes me as the most damaging to the ideal that all Americans are created equal..."  I have to wonder how Mr. Powell in good conscience could accept the position of Secretary of State in the present administration!!! Love is in eyes that speak kindness, patience, concern, day and night. Beauty is a figure, a shape, physical looks that appeal to the senses. Love starts as a feeling, and becomes a sensitizer to the soul.<<<<<--- Tell me- where does war of any kind fit with either love or beauty? Go to a movie. I agree with your entire essay, particularly with your disgust with the "stars" of today's movies. They couldn't pay me to go to see them. Most of them are vulgar and immoral and I'm so very glad I'm not related to any of them. My personal feeling about the Presidentof the United States of America is that he was elected by the majority and is therefore deserving of and entitled to my respect and loyalty so long as he occupies that position. Thus far I am proud of the job he is doing. My country is deserving of my respect and loyalty always or else I should pack my bags and go elsewhere. In my 77 years I have observed NO other country that can hold a candle to the United States of America and I am very proud to be an AMERICAN. My father fought for our country in World War I and my husband fought for her in World War II. Neither of my sons was called "to the colors" and are now beyond that age, but their loyalty and patriotism are unquestionable. May God bless and lead America forever! The New-York based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) also called the U.S. attacks against journalists in Iraq 'a violation of the Geneva Convention.' In a letter to U.S. defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld, CPJ director Joel Simon wrote on Tuesday: "The Committee is gravely concerned by a series of U.S. military strikes against known media locations in Baghdad today that have left three journalists dead and several wounded." "We believe these attacks violate the Geneva Conventions," Simon pointed out. On Tuesday, U.S. troops attacked the Baghdad bureau of the Qatar-based Al Jazeera, killing one war correspondent, and wounding another. In another attack, a U.S. tank fired a shell at the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad, killing two other reporters and wounding three. The hotel is well known as the unofficial Baghdadi centre of international press. A large number of foreign correspondents covering the war stay there. Ménard, RSF's secretary-general, said that all independent evidence on the U.S. attacks against the hotel shows that the firing was deliberate. Way to go Bush... way to go!

He certainly did not do anything of worth for our country while in office and his moral conduct was obscene and these entertainers that support him are of the same calibre. "Birds of a feather flock together", I always say. It would be great if you got a list of all of these entertainers so we could avoid seeing their movies or even renting them. Actually the majority of movies are not even worth seeing. They're mostly garbage. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR WONDERFUL TROOPS. Tax breaks to the wealthy, and a reduction in our social programs scares me. Is it up to us to play God and do a number on the people of Iraq and pretend we are so called liberating them, "with force." We have enough homeless people, enough people, in bad marriages, enough people in poverty careers right here in GOOD OLD USA.... and it is GETTING WORSE. The gap between Rich and Poor is wideing and less people find themselves "middle class. The Wealthy few, oil barons, Big media owners and Politicians cause this- not entertainers. I wont boycott the movies, but I will pray for the safe return of our troops, and I will pray for a humane liberation of the peoples of Iraq. In God I trust... not in our politicians- screw them. If more people took the time to REALLY reasearch, ALL sides and ALL points of view--- even conspracy theories and fish out the thread of truth everywhere, then I would trust democracy.... but with so few people taking the time to REALLY consider ALL sides, democracy simply is a "who sells the bull shit the best while the knife is in our backs." This is the greatest nation in the world and we have so many freedoms people take for granted. These stars have the right to speak out against our president and the war but I also have the right not to support them by watching their movies etc. Although we do have to distinguish between those who do try and demonize our country and President Bush and give aid and comfort to the enemy and the stars who do support the president and the troops and their mission. As I read the letters that have been posted just on the 12th I realize that we still have loyal people in our country. Loyal to the President and to our purpose of preserving freedom. Having been in foreign lands, I know that we are the most blessed of all peoples. And I am thankful that President Bush has a heart to help preserve our freedom and to assist oppressed peoples of other nations. May we be loyal and unselfish people. As for the entertainment world, I am 80 years of age and in my lifetime I have seen them contribute little to the upbuilding of our nation, morally or otherwise. They wouln't feel my boycot but I shall try to point out their trairorous actions to others. People who have spent their time demonstrating against our government and the present actions have little to do and more "money than brains!" I shall continue to pray for all those who are fighting for us - for their safe return to us and for people to "wake up" to the reality of what it is all about! I believe fully in democracy... I believe fully in free enterprise, yet the caution that very few people look at is "when does capitalism become just another form of communism and control?" Too much wealth in the hands of so few is bloody well scary... and look what is happening. The middle class is being eliminated and the gap between rich and poor widening. The best website and most informative I have come across re: what is money and where does it come from is  It is very informative and complete, and is explained in lay mans terms. Information can be listened to or it can be read. Take long hard look yourself.... Now let's go back to the cost of rebuilding Iraq. The powers in control of money will have us believe that the increase in taxes and decrease in social benefits were necessary because of the rebuilding of Iraq. After you study the site, you will KNOW that that is NOT TRUE. Why taxes are increased and benefits decreased, is simply the danger we really face... capitalism turned into control. They want us to believe that is where the money is going. The Federal Reserve has NEVER BEEN AUDITED. Look at the left side of your pay stub. Look at your cost of living rising, insurance, auto's, property taxes.... then ask yourself... how many people are "really" getting a piece of all those/your increases? You see.... everyone along the lines are faced with the SAME increases... their lives are not improved by your increases in taxes and expenses.... until you get to the top of the pyramid. Those "FEW" super rich families really in control. Where does the money go? It does NOT GO TO HUMANITAIRY CONCERNS... nor to CLEANING UP THE POLLUTION etc. It is NOT a pretty picture, and not enough people really see reality. Liberate Iraq.... what a farse!

Thank you for expressing your feelings and concern. I agree with you 100% I especially agree with your views on the entertainment business. They have been supported by the public, including the troops who are fighting and sacrificing for them. This war is not about money and oil, not pro-war vs. anti-war, as some of the other commentators mentioned. The bottom line is good vs. evil. Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys? It's where you place your discernment on the overall picture. Not just at the immediate details we see on the news, but what will the outcome be, are we all living our lives according to God's will? Which is why I definitely think the entertainment business could use a bit of cleaning up and this was a perfect way of disclosing how they really are and not through their acting roles. Theresa

The Bush ‘regime’ is leading many to believe that we won the war in Iraq. We have won nothing. We have systematically bombed a third world country, murdered its citizens, instilled fear, humiliated them, all so we can now make a hefty profit in rebuilding this country, while ignoring our domestic problems here at home. And what have we failed at producing? Any evidence that there was weapons of mass destruction? Very much akin to Bush failing to capture Osama bin Laden or Mulluh Muhammad Omar. All of this will be swept aside, so that Bush can get his accolades and the profits that go with it. To him it is just one big game, and nothing more. In my opinion, the only true weapon of mass destruction is Bush himself. I have heard of scud missiles. To me, he is a scum missile for what he has put this country through and more importantly Iraq. God forbid you question this American ‘regime’, you are branded a traitor and unpatriotic. Who is a dictator now

I agree with you. It is time for Hollywood to sit down and shut up. I can't understand why they think because they are big screen stars they have the right to try and speak for me. I for one do not want any of them speaking for me. Instead of all of these protest marches I suggest they go do something that is productive such as working in a soup kitchen or visting veterans hospitals where people lay day after day because they fought for not just my freedom but for all of us. None of us like war. Do they really think they are of a special elite group. The freedom that has been fought for through all of the wars is what gives them their rights and freedom.

Amen to boycotting Hollwood, I've been doing it for years. Some people are misreading the Ten Commandments; I believe the correct phrase was, "Thou shall not MURDER." You have the right of self defense. In reading many of the comments I find the theme, "Peace in Our Time". Does that ring a bell? If you wait for the smoking gun it's to late. It has been fired and you may be dead.

Here's an up to date report on your "BOYCOTT THE MOVIES" - Tonight's TV show, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT announced that this week's movie attendance was a record breaker. More people went to the movies this past week than ever before. You didn't really think your boycott would really work did you? The only one you are really hurting is yourself. I have to agree with you when you say there's a lot of unacceptable material in the movie industry but at the same time there is a great deal of good wholesome entertainment also being produced. If you still feel your boycott is necessary, might I suggest that you be selective in your choice of movie you would care to avoid and not deprive yourself or your children of enjoying one of the longest running form of personal enjoyment in the world, the movies. I'm sure that all of you at one time or another can remember a favorite movie you have seen. Why stop now. Aside from the boycott, regardless of our position on the war, we must all continue to support our troops and pray for their safety and speedy return. War is a nasty business and the sooner it ends the better. God bless America. Riuchard Lewis, New Jersey

ONE Aussies point of view...continued. This is the last time I will be viewing this site, as I now think it is a complete waste of my time and intelligence to read anymore of this dribble. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE????? Don't the pictures of the the devastation, small children without limbs, people dying for lack of drugs, the heartbreak and pain these people are now going through, the complete and utter misery they are suffering, the living conditions they have to endure on top of everything else, people BEGGING the troops for WATER, the disgusting looting, the absolute criminal acts being committed, the lawlessness, people BEGGING America to do something towards control...don't all these things matter to you?????? OR are the comments of a few Hollywood actors more important!!!!! If your government really was fair-dinkum (truthful) about freeing Iraq, they would have made provisions for the aftermath, as they knew what would prevail as soon as the first bomb dropped. If this war REALLY was to rid Iraq from Suddam and his regimen, for the GOOD of the Iraqui people, then the troops should have had food, water, and medical trucks, in their first convoy along with their tanks and bombs, which may have eased the initial burden somewhat. And don't tell me that couldn't be done. They got all their war equipment there...didn't they?!! And why wern't the troops schooled in learning the language of the country that they were invading??? A little understanding goes a long way towards avoiding unnesessary trauma. And why wern't the troops given a course in crowd control and be allowed to police the towns until order could be restored????? YES!! the troops were very busy fighting, but there were also many doing nothing. I am not denigrating the troops...just the people they work for. So many questions...NO answers!! And 'collateral damage' is spoken about so casually,it makes me sick every time I hear the words. What about the man who's whole family was killed and he couldn't get near his home for the stench of decaying bodies lying in the street???? If you are going to wreck peoples lives to give the ones left a better life, then the WHOLE war plan should have been better thought out. But then...THE OIL WELLS ARE SAFE AREN'T THEY??? Wake up America and smell the death and destruction. HELLO, thank you very much for your email. I am a very out spoken person on this subject. I love my country and it is only 2nd to the love I have for my family. I have been very angry, and embarrassed by the way the hollywood community continue to speak out to the point of disrespect. I'm sure NOT ONE OF THEM have ever rolled up their sleeves to help this great country and the people in it that didn't benefit them in some way. I have never seen such a selfish, "SELF CENTERED" group of people. They are over paid and given far to much credit and power in this country that they have forgotten what they are COURT JESTURES! Every time I see one of them on t.v. I turn the channel. I do think most people think they are making fools out of them selves, I hope this action will speak for it's self. I for one have a list of people that I refuse to ever lend my attention to. I do not agree that ALL of them feel this way. When I see them taking air time on t.v. and know that YOUNG people are over seas protecting every thing WE STAND for as a country I feel it in my bones. I am a 36 year old woman I live in Southern Idaho, I have a husband and 2 young girls and I do not know a soul over seas or in the military but I FEEL for each and every one of them. I have watched the news non stop I have candles going in my home for our troops, I pray for them and their familys and there is not a min. in the day they are NOT IN MY HEART and mind. When I see their young faces on the news saying hello to their loved ones I feel nothing but PURE PRIDE for them and their courage...I thank them, we should all thank them. GOD BLESS to them ALL.

Responding to Carol,Queensland,Australia - (15 Apr 2003 - 09:17:19). I have read your responce to the question being debated on this web-site and I must say I couldn't have said it better. Take note that the vast majority of respondants to this site fail to add their name. If they were sincere in their convictions, they would be proud to add their name. I would suggest that everyone visiting this site should go back and read your letter. I also suggest that they visit web-site to see what our "Commander in Chief" did to avoid being sent to the war front during the Vietnam War. As a veteran who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, I have to wonder what right he had to order our troops to go to war. How easy it was for him to have our military do his dirty work for him. Does this make me angry? God knows it does! I am an ardent supporter of our troops and always have been. My sympathy goes out to the loved ones of the heros who sacrificed their lives and to those who were injured in battle. God bless them, God bless America. Richard Lewis, New Jersey

I need only see the flag waving to feel an intense pride in this country for the beauty that abounds for the blessings we live with daily...and it is the freedom to choose who we will be who we will serve and who we will worship that makes it so great....those that sacrifice their lives and work to preserve this freedom are always in my thoughts, prayers and heart. I am grateful for all they do. I truly wish the population of our country could travel to some of the third world countries and see for themselves how the people really live... A first hand experience would change the way they think and live forever. I am proud of our president. He is a good man. He has a hard task before him...and with our help he will meet the challenges we face as a nation and help bring freedom and hopefully peace to more of our wonderful world. J. Morris

I agree with your position that members of the entertainment community has as much right to state their beliefs publicly as the rest of the country. In actuality it is the American Public's fault that these people feel like kings and queens and the American Public's fault for giving these people so much control over their thoughts. When parents allow others (all forms of media that bombard them every day) to provide more influence on their children than the parent themselves provide, the children WILL absorb what the media tells them to be true. Let this be a wake up call to the American Public that each of us must be in control of what we allow ourselves and our children to hear and absorb without challenging the validity of it. Hurray for your boycott!! Let it not end. Way too much of what is produced as entertainment is the worst kind of junk.

I found the following 2 letters from an Aussie and took the liberty of copying them and posting them again, as this lady has hit it spot on. EVERYBODY should take the time to read them, as they contain truth and wisdom, and then focus on the REAL problems facing us today, instead of a few psychotic movie stars comments. Bear in mind, some of us will have to grieve for 1 or maybe 2 family members who won't come home, but the Iraqis are grieving for WHOLE families, innocent children and babies, gone forever in this dishonest war. Does this seem fair? Somebody suggested that a reward of $1,000,000 should have been posted for information leading to the capture of S. Hussain. What a good idea. I'm positive he would have been handed to us on a silver platter, and much cheaper too, than the billions of dollars spen on this war...and without the devastation Date: 01 Apr 2003 Time: 07:32:52 Comments Subject: ONE Aussies point of view. I am probably going to start a different kind of war with my comments, and will probably get shot down in flames, but...here goes. First of all, as a proud Australian, I wholeheartedly support Bush, Blair and Howard in their endeavours, whatever the ulterior motive may be (and believe me, there IS one!) because at the end of it all, one way or another, the most evil man in the world will be gone. But I do not support the way they are going about doing this. I believe this war is really about Money and Power (isn't every war??) and the Iraqies freedom is secondary, but THAT will be the bonus for the ones who are left and who want it. Is this a case where 'The End Justifies the Means?' I feel very deep pride, love and sympathy for EVERY single serviceman doing his or her duty, Not just the Americans. Our TV coverage here (SBS, ABC, World News) mentions the Americans almost exclusively, the British sometimes, and the Australians hardly ever. Britian and Australia are relatively small countries when compared with America, but we are giving up our service men and women on the same scale as America, and will suffer the same hardships and losses as you. But between us all, we will not come anywhere near the suffering that is being, and will be experienced, by the Iraqi people. We have also made our peaceful country a future target for retribution, in only God knows what form, by joining this war. The problems in Iraq and like countries, have been there since forever and I find it hard to believe, that with all the Intelligence forces and the excellent technology your great country has available, (spies, undercover agents, satelites etc,) that Saddam Hussein and his henchmen, could not have been annihalated without resorting to a full scale invasion, which will most certainly have repercussions for years to come and divide the world. If this doesn't turn into a World war, I'll be very surprised, and the losses sustained are going to be greater than any of you are now imagining. America cannot look after it's own poor, destitute and underpriviledged now, so how IS America going to manage a few million more??? Every American, every Brit, every Aussie is going to pay...long after the war is finished (if ever) until the reasons behind it are just a dim memory and we are sick to death of paying. As far as not watching movies anymore because of a few Hollywood stars comments, I feel that is a childish and futile act (like...if you say something to upset me, then I won't play with you anymore) but if people feel that is a noble thing to do, then that is their perogative. There are a few absolute bastard actors that I detest, but if the role they play, (and the movie) is a good one...then I will watch it. To me, that is a trivial matter and there are much more important things to be concerned about, and to put our energies into. You are worried about the influence the entertainment industry is having on your children; I would be more worried about the influence this war WILL have on them and the hatred it WILL breed. Have these Hollywood actors, who dared to voice their opinion against yours, said to you, "You don't agree with my opinion, I don't want you watching my movies, so YOU leave America." ?? I have read EVERY single comment on these 2 pages (has anyone else?) and feel that the minority who have replied against the majority, must be Australians, as they are talking sense and don't appear to be brainwashed into believing everything that is being reported. Please, people, put this in it's proper perspective and realise that these actors who have upset you so, are only people with an opinion and a different point of view. EVERYBODY is entitled to that, (no matter what it may be and without being told to leave the country) and remember, there are people who can justify a war, and there are people who can't even handle the thought of war in any circumstance. Who's right and who's wrong??? IN WAR, THERE ARE NO WINNERS and everybody concerned will pay a price. My only hope is that the cost is not too great to bear, and my empathies go to ALL the people who will be left to grieve. The hand that rocks the cradle gets left holding the baby. I do not like the idea of war, but words are not always strong enough - especially for someone like Hussain. I commend our President and his cabinet for their work. HOwever, I could never thank the people in the military branches enough for them to know how proud I am to be an American. We as American's are privy to many things the Iraq people dream about. I will join your boycott of the entertainment community with pride and I will pass this message to everyone I know (and some if I can!). I will pray for your sons, daughter, mothers and fathers so they may come home safe. One of my favorite sayings is on a plaque in my dads home: For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a taste the protected will never know. Hey, The last time I checked "Freedom of Speech" is one freedom secured in our own Bill of Rights. Boycotting "Hollywood" is a joke. Not every actor or actress feels that way, or musical group. Everyone has the "Right" to say and think what they want, it is America isn't it??? Do you think every military soldier in Iraq is glad they are at war? Some are just young boys or girls who were trying to get an education who signed up thinking they would never be called upon to go to war and kill. Yes, that is their job but at what costs? Their lives. I really think it had more to do with oil than terrorists,or weapons of mass distruction. Yes, 9/11 will live on in our lives forever, but what about the hunt for Bin Laden we know he was the mastermind behind that but we seemed to be side tracked going after all terrorists! Think of the Billions spent on this war. What about the people starving in the USA? Yes,there are people out of work and homeless and starving. It is at your back door and we chose to ignore what is happening in our own country. Give freedom of speech back to the citizens of America, that is what some people claim war is all about Freedom. We need to get back to where we were and take care of our own!!

If our men and women can go over there and fight for our country to free those people of a dictatorship the least we can do is support our leaders and military and that does include our President. We don't have to agree with everything he does or doesn't do but there comes a point when you have to support your President whether you are a Democrat or Republican. This article is long overdue! I for one feel our Country pays actors in Hollywood far too much money. They work hard for their paycheck but so do alot of other Americans. They are put up on some "pedestal" because they entertain us, but haven't we gone a little overboard with the way we "idolize" these actors? Our President is doing what he feels is the best thing to protect our Country from terrorists and we should ALL support him in this. Our brave men and women are fighting to keep this country safe from terrorists, so that we can all live without fear. If the Hollywood actors do not feel we should be trying to protect America from people who want to harm us, then they should move away, perhaps to Syria or Afganastan. Sincerely, Dora.

What makes the Hollywood people think we even care what their opinions are? I say if they don't like the way the United States government does business, perhaps they should go to France and spread their garbage. I am asking all Americans to please BOYCOTT HOLLYWOOD MOVIES.It is the only way they will get the message.

When you do not support him, you do not support our troops. We have lost some of our guys fighting for the very freedom they are expressing. I say shame on you Hollywood. Sham on you!!!!! I wonder what kind our nation would be if left up to them to govern, I guess something worse than Clinton. I am so sick of turning on the T V or radio and hearing there remarks, let us ship them all to a country where you cann't speak against the government and leaders and maybe then they would think more of our country. To Whom It may Cocern; My Comments about this Email letter is this, the writer of this email is forgetting that every one in this country has the "Right To Freedom Of Speech".If a person wants express their feelings and thoughts to a groupe or to our nation's people, they have the right to do so! If you as a person do not like what you hear or read, then all you have to do is turn your t/v or radio off or do not read the news paper. What do you think you are doing when you write a email condemming what you heard coming out of holly- -wood,aren't you doing or saying anti-american things? Are you a person that is so right in everything you do or say? My feelings are,( after reading your email) that you and everyone else in this country should beleive all the propaganda that the Bush people and himself, is feeding the public of this Great Country! Are you related to the Bush's? Are you one of his cronies? Are you the head of one of the BIG Construction Company thats going to make millions of dollars on the so called rebuilding of Iraq? Would you volunteer To be the person that has to go and knock on a door of the parents of one of our service people who has been killed in Iraq and look them in the eyes and truthfuly tell them their kin lost his or her life for a good cause?? If you beleive it was for a good cause, then you can't be a honest person! I Serviced my country in the WW11 war and I was Damn PROUD to do so.But let me tell you this,I have seven Grandson who are of age to go into the service and I have told them that I pray every day that the will not enlist in service at this time or while Bush is in office. This war was hatched after his father screwed up in Iraq back in the 90's and lost his bid for another term in Washington!!! I could go on and on about what a Damn mess that the Bush people has done to a country that I was So Proud of,I no longer feel the same anymore. If you wish to carry this debate further, you have my email address,wedelee@webtv.net, you may even want to send a copy of this comment to the F B I.

It's Easter Morning and I have just returned from church. I am filled with the peace this holiday brings. I found comfort in the support my religious community, not to mention my business community and my residential community, has brought me. The support for my Marine son, our president, our troops and the job they are doing fills me with pride. I have not been to a movie, nor have I purchased any merchandise peripherally associated with that industry since I heard the first protest from Hollywood. The very first letter I received from my Marine son was filled with questions regarding the protesters in Hollywood and elsewhere. You see, they do not get news from home unless it is by mail. There are no televisions, radios or cell phones. It broke my heart to think that my son has given up his personal life and all its comfort, to fight the devil himself, and he thinks we don't support him. It became my personal mission to seek out supporters (which was not hard to do), photograph them and send them to my son and his Marines. He now knows that his country is standing strong and united in support of him.

This is not the right way to show your discontent at the Hollywood 'celebrities' and you will not be hurting "Hollywood" at all, (you silly woman, who wrote this document...), but rather you'll be hurting the workers and owners, and all other ancillary vendors of the theatres, causing them to lose their jobs for lack of business. How could anyone think of such a childlike idea? You want to express your opinion? Well, write to these famous people and tell them how you feel and why and try to convince them. Don't hurt business any more than the economy already has. Business consists of hard working people trying to earn decent wages in order to bring food and shelter to their loved ones. Why would anyone wish to tamper with this? How inhumane. Don't mix politics with survival. I'm surprised that the desire here was to hurt anyone, even the 'celebrities'... This does not seem to match the Christian philosophy that this website exposes.

During World War II the "movie stars",Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart,Glen Ford, and many others signed up to join our military and SERVE THE COUNTRY THEY LOVED. They did "Bond Drives" for our government. It looks to me as though the "movie stars" of today don't care enough about our country to even just support it with positive comments. Not to mention any of them signing up to go help out. I will show Hollywood my displeasure of them by BOYCOTTING all forms of entertainment. The "rock stars" are just as bad also. I intend to keep my hard earned money out of their hands. I am glad Susan Sarandon & her "companion" Timothy Robbins were "un-invited" to the Baseball Hall of Fame & the United Way functions. If anyone has an email address of either of these two organixations please put it out for us. I want to send them an email thanking them for having the courage "to speak their minds" also. We want the entertainers to know we too have a voice. Jan in Jax

War is but an instrument, like a surgeon's scalpel. A homicidal maniac can grab it off a table and use it to stab someone to death. But a skilled surgeon can use the same "inanimate object" to cut open a human being and remove a life ending cancer. Unfortunately some healthy cells will die in the process so that the whole body may live. Like the scalpel, war is but an instrument, its handler determines whether it is put to good or evil use. There is not a Jewish person alive today that can say war is bad. And recently, because of war, there were countless Iraqis dancing in the streets and for the first time, savoring the sumptuous flavor of FREEDOM! I can only hope that they never become like so many miss guided Canadians and Americans, and forget that - - - FREEDOM ISN'T FREE! All those simple-minded anti war demonstrators are going to have to appear before a mirror some day and look themselves dead in the eye. At that point in time, they will have to admit, "I sided with "So Damn Insane," oppressor, torturer, rapist, murderer, and when the sane world is trying to get rid of them, he is a proliferator of Weapons of Mass Destruction. I supported his reign of terror by trying to stop a war that was intended solely to stop him. I was afraid to stand up for what was right, I was cowardly and I simply jumped on the bandwagon of the morally impotent." What stunned me most was, I saw nuns and priests amongst them. I no longer watch my favorite program, West Wing (Sheen), and have never seen a Jane Fonda Movie, and tonight I will not see the movie about the Doctor at the South Pole with cancer (Serandon)! Let me begin by saying that I SUPPORT OUR TROOPS AND AT THE SAME TIME OPPOSE WAR. I served in Korea in 1951 as part of the first United Nations military stand against aggression. This was a United Nations action, not a so called coalition of principally two countries. I support the French,Germans, and Russians as they are patient hoping to do everything possible to avoid war. These three countries have experienced war. They know how devastating it is. I saw with my own eyes, as anyone else has who has experienced war up close and personal, how horrible it is. I am not speaking of the combatants experience I am speaking of the innocent civlilians, some of those little kids I will never forget and that is over 50 years ago. If the inspectors had been allowed to continue their work war might have been avoided, if not, we could say we did everthing we could to avoid this terrible tragedy. Am I unpatriotic by saying this? I don't think so! I am simply expressing my opinion as an American citizen and one that answered the call when my country and the world asked for help. Can I support our troops and still oppose war? ABSOLUTELY. I am GRATEFUL to be an American and ask God to Bless the World, not just America.

Bravo,( wedelee@webtv.net ). I have read every letter posted on this site and once in a while I find one that says it like it is. As a fellow veteran, I agree with your viewpoint relating to the war in Araq and the ramifications that war brings. I have to wonder how many of the war supporters have experienced the horrors of war. Sitting in front of my tv and watching the way the news media sanitizes the war angers me to no end. There is no question in my mind that the news media is controlled. They constantly report the bright side of what's going on over and over again and when a channel exposes the dark side they are criticized by the administration. War is a nasty business and every effort should be made avoid it. My heart goes out to all of those who lost a loved one in this war that I feel could have been avoided. I have to wonder how our "Commander in Chief" can sleep nights knowing there were other options available to solve the problems in Iraq other than war. True, Saddam had to be removed from power but there were other options on the table beside war to accomplish it. War should always be the very last resort. I was against the decision to go to war from the start but I have always strongly supported the troops who were sent there to do the dirty work. I pray every day that the conflict will end quickly and they will soon be home were they belong. God bless our troops and god bless America. Richard Lewis, New Jewsey

My comments about the jokes/jerks in Hollywood is this: If you don't like the way we're doing things, that's your right under the constitution of this country. That's what our men and women have fought for since this country started. But DON'T try to force your thoughts on me and mine. DON'T degrade the people who have given their lives to permit you your beliefs. DON'T tell me I should not have a gun in my house with which to protect my family/myself. If you DON'T like the way I feel, move ti IRAQ or some other downtrodden country where you can feel the heel of oppression on YOUR neck! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

I believe in freedom and private business. I'll support the troops by voting for a leader who does not think that ruling with force and destruction is the way to go. Some comments on this stupid page say the Hollywood people are rich. Maybe they are compared to you, but not compared to the jerks that mess around with the stock market and the money markets of the world. Most people are so concerned with their own lives they have no time nor energy to take the time to research what is really happening in the world. The next time you have an increase in taxes and at the same time notice a decrease in public facilities such as libraries or education cuts, ask yourself why is life getting so hard to get ahead? The next time a big merger happens between two LARGE companies and your wages do not go up, pay attention. The Hollywood people who are against the war and against this administration have more time to review what is really happening. They have the money to take the time to be educated whereas the average American is too stressed with taking care of their own needs to even have a clue as to what is really shaking down. I agree to boycott the smut that is on the picture screen, but there would not be any smut if people did not use sex as an escape from the stress of their own lives. Sex and drugs and religion are nothing but escape tools that the weak and stressed out mass's of population use to hide from reality. The weak will not inherit the world... the bible says the meek will inherit the earth. To be meek means to be strong in LOVE. Screw you guys- I'm going to a movie.

I totally agree with the sentiments expressed in this letter. It should be noted that many of these Hollywood entertainers DO support our troops and our President. They are Brad Pitt (despite the fact that his wife hates George Bush and the war), Elizabeth Taylor, and Farah Fawcett (despite her ill chosen dress with an American flag train-she is a strong suppiorter of our troops and our President). I'm sure there are many others who believe that this is a just and much needed war-even if we hate war. Being seventy one years old, my memory takes me back to the early '50s when Hollywood was attacked by Senator Joseph McCarthy. With a broad brush he accused the entertainment industry of being saturated with communists. Many members of the industry were labled traitors and unamerican. The investigation which ran some five years gained national media coverage causing many members of the public to believe the charges to be true. Because of the "Black List" created by McCarthy, the careers of many members of the entertainment industry were ruined. Sadly, the twisted and exaggerated charges made by McCarthy were deemed to be unfounded. Unfortunately, too late, the damage to their careers was already done. Somehow, I now see history repeating itself. I see many innocent members of the movie industry today being unfairly labled traitors and unamerican. Shame on you! May God forgive you for being so cruel. I would urge those of you who are too young to remember those dark days in American history to visit the web-page,"How Joseph McCarthy Struck at the Heart of Hollywood".  It might help to understand the seriousness of today's problems. I think it's now time to stop all the name calling and discuss the issue created by this web-page in an intelligent and civil debate. I'm sure thats what "the fathers of our country" meant when they penned "The Freedom of Speach". God bless our troops and God bless America... Richard Lewis, New Jersey

What is it about freedom of speech that is so hard to understand??? The Anti-War people do have that right, and the rest of us also have the right to respond by speaking out FOR the War, For the troops, For President Bush. We have the right to plan, and attend War Rallies , to send the message to our fighting men and women that we are PROUD of them and are praying for their safe return. They (the Left) only get upset when the tides turn against them , and start spewing off about how we are trying to harm them with rhetoric against them. I will exercise MY right to boycott certain films that have people in them who I deem a danger to the well being of our Military, and my right to not purchase or attend concerts of people who speak out against our President when they are on foreign soil, in time of war. That constitutes as an act of treason. Proud to be an American; Jamie Redmon, one of the few Conservatives in Ca.

I very much agree with what you are saying...however, you are going about it the wrong way. These celebrities who position themselves against President Bush and the war effort are speaking purely from personal feelings. Their beliefs are not the beliefs of film production companies (who are the ones who make the movies). What you should do is research the movies coming out, if there is a person involved in a movie who is against our President, then don't see it, if there is no one who publicly proclaims anti-war propaganda, go enjoy the movie. By boycotting the entire film industry all together, you could possibly cause a HUGE resession in the economy and therefore set the whole country back; think about how big the film industry is and how much of our money goes there, if it all of a sudden stops, the economy has been screwed up. Do research on actors, directors, whoever and boycott those who are against. Let the industry know that you don't care for certain performers or directors, and the production companies won't hire them anymore. Doing this is safe and effective, trust me! And my God bless our soldiers!

Someone once said,"Wars are necessary, they help to decrease the overpopulation of the world". Unfortunately, that statement is not far from the truth. In the four major wars of the last century, the Government Records indicate that 654,339 in our military in those wars were killed and 94,128 are listed as missing in action. Add to those numbers the soldiers lost by the enemy and the thousands of inocent men, women and children who were killed being the victims of collateral damage. Then you have to include the dozens of lesser wars and conflicts that took place during that period of time and we end up with a number that boggles the mind. Why do so many people have to die in order to have peace on earth. Do I think wars are necessary? My answer to that question is this: ONLY WHEN WE ARE ATTACKED FIRST!!! WE SHOULD NEVER BE THE ATTACKER!!! Right now there are a number of countries around the world with vicious dictators as cruel or more cruel than Hussein. Who will we attack next. I pray no one. Overpopulation of the world is an ongoing problem but the answer to that problem is not war. I pray that we humans, being the most intellegent creatures on earth, can find a more humane way of dealing with the world's problems. God bless our troops and God bless America...Richard Lewis,New Jersey

I agree 100% with you!! Thanks for putting into words what so many of us feel. Maybe if we hit them in their wallets, they'll shut their mouths!! We've been yanked around by these uneducated, opinionated jerks far too long. They have no morals and how much intelligence does it take to do what they do? They don't know what REAL LIFE is all about!! A concerned Kentucky Babe.

I thouroughly agree with this. The entertainers as they are called are no better than you or I. My son is serving overseas as well and the thought that some people try to degrade this country for overthrowing Saddam, is outrageous. As previous horrible dictators in the past have fallen ( Hitler, Stalin etc...) Saddam too must be put in his place. We as the USA, and Britain have been the only countries that have tried to stand up for Iraq. We as a nation, should not only stand together when tradgedies like 9/11 happen, but at all times shold we pull our strengths together to unite this country and the entire world. And if Hollywood Movie Stars want to degrade our country F--K them. Boycott the movies and then sit back and see how they change their attitudes!!!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL OF OUR MEN AND WOMEN FIGHTING FOR IT

The writer either doesn't know or want to know how many celebrities have donated their time, money and careers to make life better for others. Being against the war is not being against America. How narrow minded some of these comments I read are! _____________________________________________________________________________ Hollywood Entertainers are not as wealthy nor powerfully influential as are the OIL BARONS. Are they?

Entertainers do more good for the US economy than 99% of other people. Not only do they generate cash for themselves but look at all the people employed in the theaters, the video stores, the popcorn growers, the soft drink companies etc. etc etc. The sales of movies go oversreas and guess what, that money comes to the US. Frankly they do more good for you and I then you care to think about. The fact that there is so much smut on screen is because of idiots who pay to watch it, and wont go to a movie unless it is there. I WONT boycot the movies and you should be ashamed of yourself for thinking so dam small. All Bush has done is spend your tax dollars looking for weapons of mass destruction and Hussien and Bin Ladden.... he has failed at doing both. The USA has more weapons of mass destruction than the rest of the world combined. Go to a movie and pray the world is still here for your grandchildren.

What does this mean to you and I ? -- hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who died as a direct result of the 12-year, medieval siege of Iraq conducted by America and backed by Britain - and enthusiastically by Blair. Professor Joy Gordon in Connecticut has spent three years studying this embargo as a weapon of social destruction. A preview of her voluminous, shocking work appeared in Harper's Magazine. She describes "a legitimised act of mass slaughter".

I AGREE WITH YOU 100%. I AND MY HUSBAND ARE BOTH VETERANS AND I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THE COMMENTS MADE BY THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY. WE ARE ALL INTITILED TO OUR OPINIONS, BUT WE MUST LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE AND THEY DO NOT DO THAT. THEY ONLY LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE WHEN THEY ARE ON THE SCREEN. I HAVE NOT GONE TO THE MOVIES WITHIN THE PAST 2 MONTHS AND WE USE TO GO EVERY WEEKEND. NOT ANY MORE. I AM PROUD OF OUR SOLDIERS WHO PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE EVERYDAY FOR OUR FREEDOM AND THE RIGHT TO SAY WHAT WE WANT. BUT THERE IS A TIME WHEN WE KEEP OUR OPINIONS TO OURSELVES AND STAND BEHIND OUR TROOPS. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TIMES. NO ONE WANTS WAR, BUT SOMETIMES TO PROTECT WHAT IS OURS AND ESPECIALLY OF OUR FREEDOM FOR OURSELVES AND OUR CHILDREN AND THEIR CHILDREN WE MUST DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ALL OF OUR MILITARY PERSONNEL.

I agree 100% - and actually, we need to boycott them for more reasons than this. The entertainment medium continues to add more and more degrading, perverted shows and take every opportunity to ridicule Christian and/or moral values. Money is where we can hurt them and by not watching them on TV and going to their movies will definitely make a statement.

We were very proud of him and know that he would have done whatever he was called to do at the time. Let us all support and pray for the men and women who have been called to serve. MAY GOD BLESS AMERICAN AND ALL THOSE WHO PROUDLY SERVE AND THEIR FAMILIES WHO ARE HOME WAITING AND PRAYING FOR THEM! Let us also pray for our President and those who must make some really TOUGH decisions.

I totally support President Bush. I have the utmost respect for him and what he is doing. I respect him as a Christian, as a man and as our president. As for hollywood, yes they entertain us, but some of the entertainment is totally immoral and not worth my time. Hollywood needs to clean up their act and start making good movies that families can watch together. The family unit is very important and needs to be a priority.

THE PEOPLE WILL DO ANYTHING FOR MONEY AS YOU SAY .MANY PEOPLE WILL SELL THEIR SOUL FOR $$$$$$$$.IT'S ALL ABOUT POWER , CONTROL & $$$$$. I COULD EXPRESS MORE OPINIONS IF TIME & SPACE ALLOWED , BUT SUFFICE IT TO SAY HOW SORROWFULL I AM AT LIVING IN THIS KIND OF A WORLD, WHEN I CAN LOOK BACK ON A MUCH MUCH MORE PEACEFUL AND JOYFULL ONE.

BRAVO!!!! I couldn't agree more. It's time to get out that stack of home videos that you have purchased. Watch the ones you loved again. Most of them are far better than the ones being put on the screen today anyway. Gather the family around, pop some popcorn and keep the whole family home. Think of all the money you will save...not to mention the gas saved when you stay home. :):):)

President Theodore Roosevelt said in 1918 -- "To announce that there must be no criticism of the President or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." Therefore I'll say my two cents worth. Bush is on the wrong track. War was not necessary. Where is Bin Ladden? Who "really was behind the Sept 11 twin tower tragedy? Where are the weapons of mass distruction? Would we be in Iraq if they had NO OIL? Why are you hard on entertainers?- they are excersiing their right to free speech! Get a grip- this whole war was planned for years, and is all about power and money (oil). -- "Hell I think the entertainers should be given medals for their brave stance on truth!"

Responding to the unsigned post (27 Apr 2003 - 18:33:37) who wrote, "Richard Lewis - your comments and links are informative. Thanks". It's nice to know someone out there is reading my comments. I have made it very clear that I am and have been against the war in Araq from the start. In my many posts, I have tried to explain my position as clearly and as intelligently as I can. I'm quite aware of the fact that I am included in the minority but I appreciate the right and freedon to be able to do so. As a veteran who served my country during the Korean War, I like to think, in some small way, that I helped to insure that the "Freedom of Speech" remained secure. I respect everyones right to express their opinion regarding the suggestion to "Boycott Hollywood" but I do not condone the unnecessary name calling. This type of behavior only reflects their lack of intelligence. I would also like to make it crystal clear that I have always supported the troops simply because they didn't start the war, they are doing their duty as members of the Armed Forces and they need all the support they can get. My heart goes out to those who lost a loved one in the battle in Araq and to the many who were injured, some injured for life. War is a nasty business and I feel that every effort should be taken to avoid it. Again, God bless our troops and God bless America...Richard Lewis, New Jersey

I wonder when America will say it's had enough of the lies, the god-posturing, the policy of naked aggression cloaked with moral assurance and certainty, and the destruction of our freedoms. I wonder whether or not people will get tired of the day to day struggle of feeding a family, paying the mortgage or rent and watching their leaders strip away the threadbare benefits they now receive from their employers. I wonder when we will grow tired of the thought of perpetual war for the aggrandizement of the few. And when will we grow weary of our sons and daughters sacrificing their lives on the altar of one man's ego and sense of divine calling. I wonder how many more will lose their jobs, their homes and their futures and understand that those at the top of the heap give not a whit for their well being. I wonder if the day will come when we turn on the news, hear what's being described, then take a look around our town or our neighborhood and begin to realize that the two realities don't match. I wonder if those of us who choose the path of protest will grow weary from the browbeating, the accusations and the threats and decide it's not worth the effort. I wonder how much further we can sink into an economic pit before we realize that our leaders are interested in lining no one's pockets but their own. I wonder how much longer thinking Christians will allow the name of their God to be butchered by a man who understands nothing of the faith he proclaims and for whom that faith is a vehicle of destruction rather than a path to healing and understanding. I wonder how much longer we will choose to believe that those in power who claim God as their authority are not led by God at all but by their own ambition for power and wealth. I wonder how many more precious Constitutional rights we will allow to be stripped from us before we see what's slipping away and rise up in anger. I wonder if we will wake up before the dream of democracy breathes its last. I wonder. Bill Chickering White Bear Lake, MN

On Easter Sunday I Posted a letter in search for the truth. I wrote: "I am for the truth. Pro War or Anti War? Pro Bush or Anti Bush? I have done extensive research on these questions and have found the following web-site to be most convincing,  If the information posted on this site is not true, please feel free to inform me." I then signed with my e-mail address. At the time of that post, this web page registered over 96,000 hits. Amazingly, I received just one response, from N.Sperling. It seems to me that he and I are both looking for the truth and the truth doesn't seem to matter to the vast majority who visit this site. I ask again, if anyone can furnish information showing the facts of the site mentioned above are not true, please feel free to inform me. Thank you. I am for the truth...
