AND YOU SOUND JUST LIKE ALL OF THE OTHER DEMOCRATS IN THIS NATION WHO CAN ONLY BELAME THE REPUBLICANS AND NOT REMEMBER THE DEMOCRATS WHO WERE LAST IN OFFICE AND DID NOTHING FOR HEALTH CARE AND SPENT BILLIONS ON THE FOREIGN COUNTRIES ALSO. YES DOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT HEALTHCARE IN THE USA BUT LETS REMEMBER THAT WE ARE ALL APART OF IT
hello, i have a sister with hep c, i have seen what this virus does to a person. she has no money for any kind of treatments. i agree about what you said about the government. the idiots are nuts. they need to wake up. and stop sending billions of dollars to other countries and take better care of thier own. im so angry with the bush administration they do not care about the poor. they were born with a silver spoon up thier but, how can they possibly understand. i also am a diabetic and cant get any help with my medications. this is a screwed up country.
I am glad that someone is speaking out. We not only have a health care problem in this country. We have people without jobs, without homes, that go to bed hungry at night. The moral problems are almost insurmountble. My dependence is on God. I am blessed with a warm place to live, warm clothes to wear, enought food to eat and good health. Turning our lives and our country back to God would solve a lot of problems. Alice - Springfield, MO
Hello. I am Barbie Minsch, & I want to thank you so very much for publishing our story. Anything we can do to get this message out to the public is a good thing. If you havent been tested, please do. So many people have it & dont even know it. I agree that America needs to let God back into our lives, our homes, our schools, & our hearts. We put God out of everything, then we wonder why our country is going to the hell in a handbasket. The Lord never goes where He isnt wanted. *** I am truly grateful to all of you at DeerLake Designs for answering my emails, keeping in touch with me, being so kind to me, & for doing such a good job on this page. Thank you so much, & may God bless you all. *** Love & prayers, Barbie
My name is Elaine and I personally know both the women that submitted these letters to your site. They have spoken well regarding the issues relating to this most insidious disease. My husband was diagnosed with HCV in November 2001. He refrained from telling his employer out of fear. When he had no other choice but to inform his boss of the 48 weeks of chemo that he needed to take, he was terminated without cause or provocation. We have lost our insurance coverage, our source of income and there is no legal recourse through the judicial system. There are many great things about our Nation, but there are also some areas that need to be changed. The overwhelming desire to police the world and dictate how they are governed and the need to send our tax dollars abroad when we have some many who are doing without within the confines of our own borders. This is not a republican or democratic problem alone. The burden to rectify this lies on the shoulders of every American of voting age. Our issue is HCV there are others out there that need help every bit as much. So let's make a difference, or do you want to just sit and complain and point fingers across party lines? The choice is yours. Thanks for the forum to discuss this. Elaine Ball
I understand re: the health care issues...however your articles appear 'Democrat/Liberal biased' The past Clinton era, is what messed up the health care!!.." GOD BLESS OUR PRESIDENT G.W.BUSH !!!
I thought part of Christianity was to love everyone. I am sickened when sanctimonious Christians cry and are victims waiting for handouts and begrudge other nations help. Here you can at least have many to join you in your crying and wailing miseries waiting for others to come through, what is the hope of others in the world? Where do they get even basics, let alone medications and equipment unknown not that long ago. Just think, if no one had developed all of this, you wouldn't be crying and whimpering. Health care! Don't you think the government has pushed it up to be expensive enough. Before government 'help' we raised our 3 children with no insurance, my parents raised the 5 of us with no insurance. We never had a new car. Never new furniture, never a new house. But we made sure we could take care of ourselves!I believed him and it seems to be a sound way of staying out of harms way.Unbelieveable? My father always said that if we spend a penny less than we earn we will always be in good shape, if we spend a penny more, we will be in trouble. No, but at the time government was staying out. When catastrophe strikes friends and neighbors will gather 'round just as we did for others, and when our house burned down, we dug a little deeper, worked a little harder and friends and neighbors helped out! (No FEMA and no one stop help.) My daughter lives in England and has for some years. Free, or universal health care everyone wants? You should talk to her. There is NO choice of doctors. You go where you are assigned and that is by what your address is. Can you change doctors, the brief answer is no. There are no gowns for modesty. She just had her cervical smear last week -pap smear here, got her up on the table and said 'flop your legs apart'! They calculate the cost benefit of each persons care to society. the young and strong will get what they need. The older you get the less you will receive as you are becoming a burden to society and the cost of your care will not benefit society. She was with her husband's grandmother, through her pain and suffering the last three years before she died under national health care. It was free and universal. I could go on and on, in fact she is only in her 30's and you would not believe how many people she personally knew, of all ages who have died in the 3 years she has lived there. Mostly cancer that when discovered is so advanced there is no help - but then everyone has free health care! Where they live they are assigned to King's Mill Hospital. When I visit I hear about that place, it is almost as though if you go in you will not come out alive. I think we better be very careful what we wish for. Certainly a lot of news is made over the wonders and benefits of universal health care, oh well, of course ours won't be like that will it? Even now our doctors can't spend the time they would like with their patients because to make a living they have to put through a lot of patients per day, that means you don't get much time. Go for it! When you get your 'free care' you might wish for a system like we once had. By the way the British pay 17 !/2 % on everything they buy, I mean everything, except for those things (like cars) that are higher taxed at a higher rate. They pay for their TV's to be licensed, they pay income tax, and more. FREE? I wish even G.W. Bush wouldn't go as far as he is for this universl care. But at least he tries to hold the lid on the disaster he must know will be coming! Thank God for him. It is not a right of birth anywhere in this world, not even here. Remember God helps those who help themselves. And I don't think he would think that crying for someone else to pay your bills considered taking care of oneself. Come on folks, wake up - or better, maybe go live in a country that has 'FREE' health care, you may love it. Mari, Los Angeles, California
Dear concerned folks, I guess HCV has me befuddled. I completely missed when this turned into a political forum. I'm thrilled so many people have taken time to read and post their views - it's great to hear all views, whether I agree with them or not. It is my belief sharing ideas and knowlege is the only way to learn and grow. Or, learn by trial and failure/success, but I'd really like to start avoiding the failure scenario. Been there, done that, far too many times. Republican, Democrat, American, Mexican, European, Canadian, African, anywhere you live, whatever are your beliefs - none of these differences seem to matter much when you are trying to fight an illness. The only difference I can think of is people from some countries suffer more of the symptoms from HCV than other countries. But make no mistake, we all suffer because of HCV. Most people just don't know HCV is what is at the root of many of their problems. Lost jobs, lost loved ones, depression, lack of concentration, body pain, liver damage - we can credit HCV with all of these. When you are too sick to work, it makes no difference as to our personal political views. There is a problem called Hepatitis C, and we need to meet and defeat that problem. The last figures I heard was 1 in every 50 adult Americans are infected with HCV. Go to the doctor feeling badly, get blood tests, with liver function checked in the blood counts. Results all come back in the normal range. Always have. Still sick, sick and tired. Same thing - all tests come back normal. Unless you doctor has reason to think you may have HCV, if they think you fall in a high risk category, the doctor might check your liver function. If this comes back normal, which it can in many, many HCV infected people, if the results are normal a viral count will not be done unless the doctor thinks you are in a high risk group. Doctors are very busy people, most people are busy these days. HCV can be in your blood for 30 years and you may not know it. So very many times when it is detected, the deterioration of the liver has progressed to such an extreme, the only option is a liver transplant. The liver cleans the blood, blood runs our bodies. One thing we do know for sure, a person can not live without a liver. Currently, there is very little information about HCV. For our children's sake, can we please try to educate people so we can slow, if not stop, the spread of HCV? Can we please have research continue? Our researchers are so very close to not only a better treatment for HCV, but for AIDS, Multiple Sclerosis, heart disease and many cancers, to name just a few. There is so much we as individuals can do to protect our health. But we must be alert to health issues if we are to be successful. I'm sorry to have rambled on for such a long time. Thank you very much for your time. I hope everyone spends a little more time educating themselves and their loved ones about HCV. If we reach just one person here in this forum, we are succeeding!
Healthcare is a great concern to our family. The goverment is controled by the health care and drug company's lobbies in Washington. It's a shame that younger and older citizens have to choose between putting food on the table or buying life saving drugs. We feel that it time to start taking care of our people first then worry about others. Congress is trying to add prescriptions to medicare it a drop in the bucket, and my cause many people to lose there heathcare that they now have with there former employer.
I've had it since I was 15 and discovered it was Hepc in '96. I couldn't afford to finish treatment last year. Medicaid dropped me and my job doesn't offer health insurance. Now noone wants to cover me. It's a mess. I don't care who runs the country as long as health coverage is taken care of. It's stupid. The greatest country on this planet and we can't afford to take care of ourselves. I know our doctors are taken care of.
It seems that we do not seem to give things like hepatitis our attention until or unless it is in our own family. Why can't regular check-ups be done for early detection of this disease? Please help these unsuspecting people. Thank you!
I was moved by yout story of HCV as I too are infected I don't know how I got the virus, my husband died with cancewr and my doctor told me I should have the test because I was arround so much blood, so I did and the bombshell fell. I am now seeing a doctor that monitors my liver enzimes but I am the early statges so far there is no liver damage. I am 71 years old and so he thinks I will outlive the desease, I am not sure, I wated to go for the treatment right away but he said to wait because the side effect is horrible. I am affraid to get invorve with any one as I would not want to pass this on. I only hope they can come up with a better treatment soon as most of us cannot afford the tratments.
I am curious as to why so many Vietnam Vets are infected. I have been married to one for 36 years, and we have never been informed of this. Does anyone know????
That's me, one of the long-winded folks, that keeps popping in and out here. I had run out of steam, but uh-oh, I must have gathered a little during the night. I think it has been determined HCV was spread by the mass innoculations using an injection gun when giving our military their vaccinations before going to Vietnam. People were infected with hepatitis C, but did not know they had it, nor how to keep it from spreading. Cleaning with alcohol does not kill the virus. I believe either extremely high heat needs to be used for sanitizing equipment which comes in contact with blood, or a disposable item should be used whenever possible. It looks like contamination with infected blood on the injection guns might be a big factor in the spread of HCV. There is still much to learn, but we have known about this virus many years. Also, blood transfusions, surgery, and dental work are other methods of transmission. You do NOT have to be a drug addict to have HCV. Once more, I thank you very much for your participation here. "We, the people" need to speak up and try to be part of a solution.
There is hope on the horizon for the cure of Hepatitis C. A Russian test has discovered a way to get 98% cure for this disease. You can check it out at this site....www.rense.com/health3/rife-h.htm.... God is Good to us... Bob in North Carolina
I was not aware of this disease being as bad as it is. It seems our government would care more about it's own than someone across the ocean where we did not need to be anyway. Charity starts in your own backyard!
I would like to know the specifics of this disease... What causes it, how is it spread, and what the steps are to avoid it... Can it, like AIDS, be prevented\eliminated through changes in behavior\moral practices? The Bible tells us all the ways that we should behave and believe.. When we ignore the roadmap, we are probably going to be lost at some point..Read it, practice it... you will be amazed at the changes that result in the world...
Dear All of You, I live in Canada and say what you might, but this is a grand country. I am a landed immigrant who imigrated in 1969 from the U.S. Thank God I did because the health care here is to be the saving grace of everyone. My brother, still in the states, had a medical issue come up and had to contact and be accepted for emergency medical aid to help him with the expenses of his injury. In Canada he would simply have gone to the hospital gotten immediate treatment and all necessary follow up with no out of pocket money. Everyone is treated impartially and fairly with no exceptions. Canada's government is no different, really, than the U.S. in that they send billions overseas and do not look after their own nearly enough, but at least we all can get medical attention at any time with no expenses from our savings or such. Good luck to you in your efforts. Sincerely Kathy (still a U.S. citizen)
PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE MEDICARE IN THIS COUNTRY.. PEOPLE ARE SUFFERING FOR LACK OF MONEY TO GO TO SEE ABOUT THEIR HEALTH..IT IS A CRYING SHAME WHAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY... YOURS TRULY, NORBERT SOBIESKI
I don't know what people are thanking Bush for, hasn't done anything except fib about all the good things, while in a country who it appears does not want help. He has lied so much that it is inpossible to determing what he will do next. Hopefully we can get him out of office before he turns this nation into a bunch of beggars.
Is this a plug for Democrates? It sounds like it, especilly that they are the ones in office now. I have seen these very similar problems when the Democrates were in office and they didn't do much to help this situation in this country. Also, we have so many very poor people in this country that barely have enough to eat or have warm clothing and still we send help to other countries and neither Republicans or Democrates do anything to help them. If It weren't for a lot of the religious orginizations to collect through churches, many of these people would starve. I am not a Native American but I see were these people need so much help. Especially those of the Rosebud Reservtion in South Dakota.the poorest people in America. Also those gambling Casinos in this country are owned by Foreigners who are making millions off of the Native Americans, and these people only have menial jobs in the casinos. Please read TIME Magazine, Dec.16th,2002 issue, it will shock you. So don't tell me about any particular..Democrates or Republican they are all the same. It is time that we realize that Charity begins at home and that our people need help also. I am happy we can help other poor people in foreign countries, but lets take of those in our own back yards first. Just sign me a concerned American.
I think the 1st PRIORTY on anyone's list, should be to obtain good Health care...HMO's are very available, I pay $30.00 monthly& can see any SPECIALIST for whatever problem I may have. Might add I'm a low income senior..Have no patience with people that expect HAND-OUT'S FROM OUR GOVERNMENT', OR WOULD EVEN CONSIDER "FREE ORGANIZED HEALTH CARE" such as ou neighbor's in Canada..understand it's a fiasco!..One comment poster states thes issues shouldn't be POLITICAL..well, some of you whine & complain "IT'S THE GOVERNMENT'S FAULT."..blaming the GOP for all your problem's is ' THE DEMOCRATE VOICE!'.." GOD DOES HELP THOSE WHO HELP THEMSELVE'S !! I totaly agree with # 1 comment's & I'm also sympathetic for anyone who is ill & struggling to make end's meet!!
As we all know the problems here in America have gotten worse since9/11 who do we blame our selves I do not think so I have lost my job after 29 yrs of faithful and honest employment never made much money either but God has brought me this far and He will not see me fail, I put my faith and trust in Him always, but this is a bit to much for Him I fear that with no jobs, or money to purchase a supplement insurance is defitnelty hitting us in the face yeah we need to blame the Bush family for this one, what right do we have to worry about the muslims or of their kind we need help in our country we need to fix our problem here at home bring back our children who have gone into a mixed up country to satisfy the Bushe's,Yes I am angry I have always felt that this was an personal vendetta and Big Geo made it his business to put Junior as our next president to satisfy papa's ego while we who have no money and worked hard can suffer some more. How much can our Lord do? He has done so much for most of us, How can we keep asking Him Help me Lord, well you know you can He is our Father and He will be there always He has for me in good times and bad times. I am so sad that our people here in America need financial aide and Mr. Bush is trying to think of other ways of spending our Tax Dollars. I know this is hard as I took a long breath I realized for the first time that we need to pray for the President to come out and take a good look and see what he is doing to our country. President Clinton was a great president he cared for people and you know his personal life is was and will always be his business, his wife loved and forgave him I am not in approval for what he did but he did do a lot for us here at home. Lets us bow our Heads and ask God to forgive us and let us give thanks to Him for all He has done and most of all to help all the sick people in the world.
HCV is a WORLD WIDE EPIDEMIC that has the potential to overshadow HIV/AIDS as the greatest threat to our health. Not enough is known about HepC due to lack of funding. What is known It's a Blood Born virus that mutates much like HIV does, this is why it's so hard to destroy. Means of infection known and suspected are as follows: Contaminated blood products, including transfusions, clotting factors, and the like. Contaminated surgical/dental tools and equipment Air Gun Injectors and the Herd innoculations of the 50's & 60's Sharing needles used for tatoos and IV drug use Straws or implements used to inhale through the nasal passages drugs Toothbrushes and Razors that are shared It can be spread sexually but only 3% or less will be infected this way, and it can be passed from mother to child but the percentage is less than 3%. This disease can lie undected in your body for decades wreaking havoc. When it's presence brings on symptoms, it's already done it's damage to your liver and the other organs of the body. It's a domino affect. Every bodily function is governed by the liver. It is easier to live without a heart than it is a liver.
Thanks for writing this page. I agree with you that our government ignores those with health problems. Our so called leaders in washington have inexpensive medical care while the rest of us have to do the best we can with medical expenses getting higher every year. Polly.
THANK YOU FOR WRITING THIS LETTER, I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH HEP-C. I HAVE FORWARDED YOU LETTER TO EVERYONE IN MY ADDRESS BOOK. MARJORIE MORRILL
I for one, believe "charity" begins at home,,,,,,,,here in the USA, not foreign countries. It may sound cold, but it is true, and through personal experience I found out first hand about our so called "home" charity. I have needed life sustaining surgery for quite a while, and I didn't qualify for government funded medical care(Medicaid/Medicare)....so , I hear about the USA performing great surgeries on people from foreign countries,,,,,,with paid airfare, living accomodations paid by the USA, and the "best" surgeons and doctors money could buy.,...but for me and those Americans like me...........NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! But for "PEOPLE FROM FOREIGN COUNTRIES"........they could not have given them care fast enough! As a low income, but not by choice,American; I do resent this "chairity " abroad. WE NEED CHARITY RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW,FOR THE LOW INCOME AMERICANS,THAT FOR SOME REASON OR ANOTHER HAVE FELL INTO POVERTY!! AND,BY THE WAY , SOME OF US POVERTY LEVEL AMERICAN, ARE EDUCATED, PATRIOTIC,AND HAVE A DEEP FAITH IN GOD AND COUNTRY! AGAIN,,,,,,,,CHARITY STARTS AT HOME!!! WHEN WILL IT START IN AMERICA FOR AMERICANS?
I agree about the govt. sending millions of dollars overseas and America is suffering the consequences. The elderly cant even afford to buy the medication they need. I think its a disgrace to the American people.
I really appreciate your articles and thoughts - will your site on to friends - thank you Wayne Smith - Calgary Canada
Personally, I know alot of patriotic & well educated Americans, who, for whatever reason, has been laid off or lost their jobs somehow, & have slipped into the poverty level. These families cannot afford medical coverage of any kind when faced with this situation. Its a choice between food on the table & medical coverage? Well, duh-... Even $30.00 a month, as someone posted about here, is too much for these families. $30.00 will buy several economic meals! My husband was laid off when the 9-11 terrorist attacks hit our country, as he is an aircraft worker, & it hit this line of work very hard. We were without any income for 2 years, & at the time, had 3 children with us to feed, clothe, & raise. $30.00 a month- where was it going to come from?-When we were struggling to feed ourselves, & fighting to not lose our modest home. We had to sell alot of our things to survive those 2 years, so I am fully aware of how easy this can happen to ANYONE! By The Way, we love & trust in God every minute of each day, & yes, He is who got us thru those 2 years. Praise Him, we are now employed once again, but there are many who arent. There are many being faced with foreclosure on their homes, & many that are already homeless & hungry. What about THESE Americans? What about THEIR health care? Its a crying shame that we, as Americans, have no more COMPASSION for our fellow Americans than we do. Those that have never been faced with this kind of situation cannot find any compassion within themselves for those that have! I find this difficult to understand. We need to get back to God- this nation was built on christian values & morals, & we've taken prayer out of our schools, & are so careful to not offend non-christians with our beliefs. Well, I, as a christian,am offended by all this. We, as a nation, need to get on our knees & pray to God. Pray for our government & those without jobs. The homeless, the hungry, the poverty-stricken, the sick in need & having to go without health care. I also have Hep-C. Thank you.
It all seems to go back to "blood". Blood is the lifeline. The blood of Jesus had to be shed in order for us to have eternal life. And now, all these different diseases that are "of the blood". Is God trying to tell this world something?
Hep c sounds a lot like Reuhmatoid Aritith which is a virus also closely related to aids. May there be some mircle sudy that will result in the help of all of these terrible Viruses. Thanks For Reading Mary Peck
I THINK OUR GOVERMENT IS ALFUL WE ARE SUPOSE TO HELP REBUILD EVERYTHING ELSE FOR EVERYONE BUT WHO HELPS US. THE INSURANCE IS ALFUL MY BROTHER NEEDS ALOT OF MEDS. EFERY MONTH AND IT COST HIM ALOT, IT MAKES ME MAD WE HAVE TO CUT BACK BUT IT SEEMS THE GOVERMENT DON'T WE NEED HELP IN OUR COUNTRY NOT EVERYONE ELSE'S
I TOTALLY AGREE THAT THE USA IS SENDING TO MUCH AID TO DIFFERENT COUNTRY'S. I BELIEVE IN GIVING BUT WHEN IT PUT'S OUR COUNTRY IN JEPRODY SOMETHING MUST BE DONE! THE BIBLE SAYS THAT THE LOVE OF MANY SHALL WAX COLD IN THE END TIME. WHEN THE FEDERAL GOVERMENT HAS TAKEN GOD OUT OF EVERTHING,WHEN THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON GODLY PRINCBLES,THEN WHAT CAN WE EXPECT!
I am sure the people making these decisions have so much to do we get lost in the shuffle. It does seem tho that no matter where we look there is money going for this or that and we here at home are getting left out. I know we are the poor and middleclass and we are looked down upon but seems to me our poor and middleclass should rank the same or better then a foriegn country.I am a middle aged person with litle or no income and can't get medicaid because of a divorce glitch. I make less then 350.00 a month but can get help with nothing but food. Now eating is a good thing but if i can't keep my body well what good is food.Silly question I know but just using it as an example.I love my country and I would do what has to be done to keep us free but it just seems we are getting left out of the shuffle.
My Name is Carolyne Haskins and I have had hep c for about 20 years. It was discovered in 1983.I have been through the treatment 2 different times this last time I almost died because the doc didn`t ckeck on me I only say him on my first intinal visit, and spoke to him once on the phone in which he was really rude to me.I ended up at the er room and they said I needed to get off the medacation because if I had waited 2 more days I would have died.No chemicals ,Potassium.dehydration, weight loss and vomitting. My mind is pretty bad I can`t remember things from one moment to the next.I can`t get any help and am totally disabled.I also have Degenerative Disk Dease.Diverticulitus.colonitise.acid reflux, copd, ashma.cronic broncitis.I am not in remission because I have days I turn yellow.Beleive me I have tried to get help, there is none.
Forced to retire after 30year employment same company. Was short full Social Security, chose to seek employment until I 'reached right age'. How many companies do you know are willing to hire a grey headed lady at least 63 years old? Part time, no insurance for part time employee, or any other benefit. Social Security does okay as far as it goes, just try to get expensive prescriptions. What a terrible way to treat the men and women that have given all to raise the men and women of tomorrow with better edications that will in turn give the children a better life. What about mom and dad?
It's time for the goverment to help the people here in the U.S.A. We have people that are sick,We have people that are hungry, and we have people that are homeless. Wake up people and spend some money here so our people cane take care of them selves. Time has run out for a lot of people that didnt have the money to spend on medication and doctor bill's.So to the goverment it's time to listen to the people that need help in the good ole U.S.A.
This country is in a mess!! What we need is God back in our homes, schools etc. As far as helping rebuild the other country, so they can pull another 9-11 on us or worse, is a bunch of bull , there are so many elderly people who are in dire need of medicene, medical care and they have to do without it so they can buy something to eat. This is horrible. Now I'm hearing that the mexican elderly can come over here, without ever working here or paying any Social Security and get a check each month. This is SICK. Lets take care of our own and make sure our CITIZENS have what they need first. Oh by the way, I am one of those seniors who lives on a limited income, I do understand. May God continue to bless this nation.
to think only three shots could prevent this disease is amazing! and to think that the gov. will not provide this is even more unbelievable! our vets deserve the very best that the american people can provide and it grieves me that they do not have this care. i appreciate your bringing this to my attention, because citizens should also be protected and the cost should be reduced so the general public can afford it. if insurance companies and gov. insurance would provide preventive medicine, there would be less illness and the ins. companies would not have to pay so much to try to keep us living! where is the logic in this? geraldine p. graham
This is a shame I my self have Fibromyalgia, and it sounds a lot like hep. c because it hurts like you you said hc dose and I am a beliver that we should take care of our own befour the U.S.A. puts one dime in any country we have people that need homes and food and are welling to help build them and we are spending on people that don't care if we live or die they have all ready proved that I haven't saw one that we were ever in war with that has been here to help fix any thing our towers are still not up where they belong we still have wemon and men in Bagdad dieing for what? Send them home, and them fix thire own mess they ask for it so why should we fix it? I am disable now from the fibromyalgia, and all the other ack and pain that go's with it some day I can't even get out of bed,I would much rather be out there working a 40 hr week then this any day. Carolyn Fuller
I was married to a Viet Nam Net myself, and he passed Hepatitis c to me during our 13 year relationship. I was diagnosed early in 1998, and was put on a back burner, no insurance. Then after my husband died from cirrhosis of the liver(Nov.1991)from Hepatitis c I was blessed enough to go to work for our school system full time and was able to pick up on some good insurance and finally 5 weeks ago started the 48 week treatment. It is hard on my body and children, but I am hanging in hoping for the best. My Dr. had told me that if I could not afford the meds, the company that makes them would supply them, but I wonder who would pay all the lab fees and such I am having to have every week? People with Hepatitis c are sort of out of luck in my opinion too. I think a lot more people than we realize have hep c. Sincerely, Wanda Guerrero
Approximately 17,000 are awaiting liver transplants now and only 3500 will receive this life saving surgery. The rest will die. currently indigent patients are allowed to die because they are unable to pay their cost of this procedure which is approximately $150,000.00. That's the price of a HepC positive human beings life. The latest figures regarding HepC infection as quoted by Hepatitis Central.com. Currently, there are about 200 million people worldwide who are infected with the Hepatitis C virus, 4.9 million of those are in the United States (estimates go as high as 15 million) and 5 million in Western Europe. The prevalence seems to be higher in Eastern Europe than in Western Europe. In industrialized countries, HCV accounts for 20% of cases of acute Hepatitis, 70% of cases of chronic Hepatitis, 40% of cases of end-stage cirrhosis, 60% of cases of hepatocellular carcinoma and 30% of liver transplants. The incidence of new symptomatic infections has been estimated to be 13 cases/100,000 persons annually. For every one person that is infected with the AIDS virus, there are more than four infected with Hepatitis C. The CDC (Center For Disease Control) estimates that there are up to 230,000 new Hepatitis C infections in the U.S. every year. Currently, 8,000 to 10,000 deaths each year are a result of HCV. Over the next 10-20 years chronic Hepatitis C is predicted to become a major burden on the health care system as patients who are currently asymptomatic with relatively mild disease progress to end-stage liver disease and develop hepatocellular carcinoma. Predictions in the USA indicate that there will be a 60% increase in the incidence of cirrhosis, a 68% increase in hepatoma incidence, a 279% increment in incidence of hepatic decompensation, a 528% increase in the need for transplantation, and a 223% increase in liver death rate.
My husband is a liver transplant survivor, 5 yrs., because of Hep C. We are blessed and lucky, but not many can say that. He is a Vietnam Vet and it was a fight all the way to get the VA to recognize hios illness. He is unable to take the medication for Hep C, so it still ravages his body, slowly, as it does in all cases. My daughter, 45 yrs. was recently diagnoised with Hep C. Now I go through it again with a loved one. More money, research, attention, and anything is needed to focus on this growing virus. It seems if someone in the "limelight" has it, we hear about it. Otherwise it simmers on a back burner of ignorance. lack of funding, education and research. New Hep viruses continue to grow. We have D, E, and even F, I do believe. No info about any of it. God Bless all who are fighting, surviving, and their loved ones who watch and wait. Bobute
I HAVE SEEN MORE DAMAGE DONE TO PEOPLE ON PERSCRIPTION DRUGS THAN ANYTHING ELSE.IF YOU WANT HEALTH THEN GIVE THE BODY THE NUTRIENTS IT NEEDS TO HEAL ITS SELF.WHEN THE DOCTORS WRITE YOU A PERSCRIPTION FOR AN EXPENSIVE DRUG TEAR THE DAMN THING UP AND TAKE THAT MONEY AND BUY A GOOD VITAMIN AND MINERAL FORMULA.WE GET SICK BECAUSE THE BODY IS DEFICIENT IN THE NUTRIENTS THAT IT NEEDS TO MAKE LIFE LIVIABLE. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF THE BODY BEING DEFICIENT IN SOME DRUG? ALL DRUGS DO ARE COVER UP THE SYMPTOMS FOR AWHILE, THEN THE SIDE EFFECTS SET IN AND THE DR. WRITES YOU ANOTHER PERSCRIPTION TO COUNTERACT THE SIDE EFFECTS. I HAVE KNOWN PEOPLE WHO HAVE A CABINET FULL OF DRUGS AND THEY NEVER GET BETTER.THE BIG DRUG COMPANIES ARE GETTING RICH OFF OF PEOPLE WHO RUN TO THE DOCTOR EVERY TIME THEY GET A GAS PAIN! WAKE UP PEOPLE AND QUIT BLAMING EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING BUT YOUR OWN IGNORANCE.START READING ABOUT THE NATURAL ALTERNATIVE RESEARCH THAT IS HEALING ALL KINDS OF PROBLEMS WITH NO SIDE EFFECTS.PEOPLE TAKE BETTER CARE OF THEIR CARS THAN THEY DO THEIR OWN BODIES. WOULD YOU PUT SUGAR IN YOUR GAS TANK? THEN QUIT OVERLOADING YOUR BODY WITH IT.QUIT SMOKING,STAY AWAY FROM CARBONATED COLAS THAT LEACH CALCIUM FROM THE BONES.ALCOHOL DOES DAMAGE TO THE LIVER AND KILLS OFF BRAIN CELLS. STOP BEING A COUCH POTATO AND EXERCISE...A NICE BRISK WALK DOES WONDERS FOR THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEMS AND MAKES SLEEP RESTFUL.THE FOOD CHAIN HAS BEEN COMPRIMISED BY CHEMICAL FARMING, PESTISIDES AND HERBISIDES SO IT IS IMPERITIVE WE TAKE SUPPLEMENTS TO KEEP THE CELLS IN OUR BODIES AS HEALTHY AS POSSIBLE TO COUNTERACT THE DAMAGE. ALL FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLE SHOULD BE WASHED IN A BATH OF VINEGAR WATER TO REMOVE ANY RESIDUE AND WE SHOULD EAT PLENTY OF THE FRESH FOODS. TAKE YOUR HEALTH INTO YOUR OWN HANDS...ALL A DOCTOR WILL DO IS WRITE YOU A PERSCRIPTION FOR A DRUG THAT HE HAS LEARNED ABOUT FROM THE DETAIL MEN SENT FROM THE BIG DRUG COMPANIES. EVER WONDER WHY SO MANY ARE TAKING THE SAME DRUG FOR VARIED CONDITIONS? IT IS THE FLAVOR OF THE WEEK! THE DRUG COMPANIES GROW RICHER AND RICHER AND THE PEOPLE GROW SICKER AND SICKER.STOP EXPECTING THE GOVERNMENT TO TAKE CARE OF YOU FROM CRADLE TO GRAVE.STOP THINKING THAT DOCTORS ARE LITTLE GODS WITH CURE=ALL PILLS. THEY ARE GREAT WHERE BROKEN BONES, BURNED BODIES,MANGLED CAR WRECK BODIES OR OTHER ACCIDENTS ARE CONCERNED,STROKES AND HEART ATTACKS, BUT FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR OVERALL HEALTH IT IS UP TO YOU! HMD.

OUTSTANDING SITE! I will help pass the word of it's exitence! Here's some recent letters that I wrote or received that I think belong with the others: 1) (Sent to The Vietnam Veterans of America, THE VVA VETERAN Newspaper) The first letter in the "LETTERS" Column of the August/September 2003 issue of THE VVA VETERAN; under the title of "A.O. Legal Redress", it brought up an article in the May/June issue. The article, I guess(I didn't see it) addressed the Supreme Court's affirmation of a lower court's ruling that Veterans with Agent Orange can sue the manufacturers of Agent Orange. With the fight, and the documentation that many from the Vietnam War and Era have, on the Airgun/Jet Injectors causing Hepatitis C........Why don't we start a Class Action Suit against the manufacturers of those guns? Many of us like Patricia Lupole firstname.lastname@example.org, Co-Founder of the Hepatitis C Movement for Awareness(HMA) http://hcvets.com/forum_public/hma/disc.htm who's done intensive research on the subject has the justifcation for just that........A Law Suit that might wake up the world and the United States Government to finally do something for the large number of us with HCV! HCV MARCH ON WASHINGTON http://forums.delphiforums.com/March_On_DC/start Member, VETERANS ADMINISTRATION'S NATIONAL HCV COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD, Hepatitis C Resource Centers (HCRC) http://www.va.gov/hepatitisc/ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 06/20/03 Rep. Jackson Lee Praised for Seeking GAO Probe of Hepatitis C A grass roots Hepatitis C advocacy group is praising United States Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, for seeking a General Accounting Office investigation of the deadly Hepatitis C virus in the United States. Hepatitis C is now four times more prevalent than HIV/AIDS and has infected more than 5 million Americans. It is estimated that between 10,000 and 12,000 Americans will die this year from complications of the blood borne virus. HCV is the major reason for liver transplants in the United States. Jackson Lee asked Comptroller General David Walker for a General Accounting Office investigation of the virus in a June 18 letter. She sought the investigation after weeks of consultation with leaders of the Hepatitis C Movement for Awareness (HMA), a nationwide organization of grass roots HCV activists. "HCV patients have much to celebrate today," said Tricia Lupole, national coordinator for HMA, "For the first time, HCV will be looked at as a whole disease. Nothing could prove more beneficial to HCV patients. We cannot thank Congresswoman Jackson Lee and her staff for seeing the needs of the HCV community." Lupole says she hopes the investigation will help answer several questions concerning Hepatitis C. The National bill S-1143 is sponsored by Texas Republican Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Massachusetts and Democrat Senator Edward Kennedy. Congresswoman Jackson Lee has concerns because of conflicting information, especially within the medical community, regarding the Hepatitis C Virus. Among other things, Lee is asking the GAO to determine whether Hepatitis C is actually a sexually transmitted disease. She is also asking the investigative arm of congress to look into the high rate of infection among prison inmates. Prisons were declared in "epidemic status" in the sixties and remain that way today. "Prisons, juvenal detention home and mental hospitals contribute significantly to the spread of HCV", Lupole continues; "If we want to stop the spread of this virus, we must stop the spread of HCV in these institutions. Or, at the very least, tell the people they have the infection before they are released. It's like passing the buck to who will finally deals with the patient." Ed Wendt, the Texas coordinator for HMA and a liver transplant recipient, says HMA also wants language in S-1143 to require "annual audits and strict background checks" of groups and organizations, especially 501c3 tax exempt groups, that receive grants and funding from the Act. "I hope the GAO report will help congress adopt the necessary amendments to S-1143 so it will be acceptable," Wendt says. "Representative Lee's letter speaks for itself." Lupole called Jackson Lee's letter to the Comptroller General "a truly great day for the 5 million Americans suffering from this disease." She said it should help veterans who contracted the virus while on active duty, get "badly needed service connected disability payments." "For the first time, issues concerning veterans and HCV infections will be addressed", said Lupole: The Veterans Administration deny accountability for the 10+% of veterans infected based on the CDC statement that war is not a risk factor for HCV. Hopefully the GAO will dig deep and see how infected veterans are and the numerous transmission methods that existed before universal precautions were in place." Excerpt form Jackson Lee's letter to the Comptroller General. In order to design an appropriate strategy for stopping the spread of HCV, we in Congress will need accurate and reliable information about this insidious virus, and its impact on American society. I understand that there is considerable controversy and confusion even in the HCV field, regarding how the virus is spread, and how best to stop it from spreading further. It also seems that certain populations, such as Veterans, the incarcerated, and minorities, may be being disproportionately hit by this virus, or missed by public health efforts. This suggests that in the future, we may need to tailor public health policies to specifically target these at risk populations. Again, addressing these issues properly will depend on accurate and reliable data. Please prepare a GAO report on HCV in the United States, including: The following topics will be examined by Comptroller General. The history of HCV in the United States; The prevalence of HCV in the general population today; Populations that have been impacted disproportionately, including the incarcerated; Recommendations for improving diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of such populations and others; How the virus is spread, including whether HCV should be considered as a sexually-transmitted disease; Whether it is appropriate to group HCV with HIV for research, prevention, and treatment purposes; The extent to which those at risk for infection through receiving contaminated blood products in the past have been identified and notified; Whether HCV infection should be considered a service-connected disability for Veterans; Diseases associated with or exacerbated by HCV infection; Appropriate methods and timing for HCV treatment; Best practices for education and prevention programs; The adequacy of federal programs-including those at the Centers for Disease Control, the Bureau of Prisons, the National Institutes of Health, and the Veterans Administration-for addressing the HCV epidemic. Lupole continued: "Our goal is to stop the spread of HCV. Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee and her colleagues understand that. If you are at risk you should use caution around needles and around blood from others. and above all stay away from drugs and sex. If you have it already cleans the liver naturally and build it up so that it can cleans the blood of the things you got in it in the first place...
Instead of helping other countries, it is time the government OPENED THEIR EYES and start helping their OWN people. There are homeless people, people out of work, no jobs, SENIOR people retired on a MERE sum of money per month and the bills STILL keep coming, NO PRESCRIPTION CARDS. The list goes on and on......... WAKE UP!!!! HELP YOUR OWN PEOPLE FIRST,
i think it is criminal to send money to other countries for health reasons and so cruelly neglect our own people, particulary the elderly and our veterans.
