I don't think anyone is certain of what is causing the global warming. I have often wondered about the melting of the glaciers long ago.........what caused that? It couldn't have been from the massive amounts of crap in the air from planes, vehicles, etc. So I wish we could prove what is happening. I do know that in the bible it says man will destroy himself???? If this is the way God meant it to be, then nothing we do will change anything. I guess he knew human beings well, didn't he.

Simply this; if we don't clean up our mess .............. there eventually won't be any drinking water, jobs, life left on this planet. Economy won't be the issue at hand. Death and destruction will. So ............. it's a no win situation if we continue on the way the bush administration is going. Me, I'm in the poor class, used to doing without most things of comfort. Those who don't know anything about living in this manner, will no doubt fight the global warming thing in order to keep the selfish lifestyle in which they have always been accustomed. I guess as the old saying goes, if the shoe fits, wear it. Sincerely, Doris in Indiana

As for your idea that drilling for oil in your part of this great country. I live in Pennsylvania, and the first oil weell was drilled in my state back in the early 1900s, they are still pumping out oil, and it has no harmed the forest area wher the ol well is located. Now if we keep on buying from our foreign countrys we become slaves to these countrys and they will break the back of this country. The wild life is just the same here as the rest of our pennsylvania forests. It has done no harm to these forests. So go and denie the right to drill, but do not grumble about the high price we are paying for our fuel. I am 92 years of age this month, I have a sound mind that is sharper than a lot of these folks that are for protecting our envirmit, Go and keep purchasing your foreingn oil. As for me I am driving a little four cylinder car, and my mechanic says thgat I am getting 35 miles to the gallon. Iam very happy with what I have and I am not complaining about the high price for fuel. Compare the price of what you must pay for your car to what you are paying for fuel and it will open your eyes. Back in the 1950e I was selling brand new cars for $2,000.00 and the price of gasoline was about 40 cents a gallon. comparing that to today the price of gasoline should be about $9.00 a gallion. And the average income was around $3,000.00 a year. don't for get that greed has set in back in the early 1990s. and it has not stopped growing. Enought said so long and GOOD-BYE.

I am in agreement with saving the forests from drilling, mining , and developement. I know many of my friends in Montana , disagree, they think that the land should be used for their dirt bikes and sleds and anything else. That's not so bad , but not only Montana , but many states have beautiful , pristine forests , undeveloped places , that if lost , can never be replaced. Look at the giant Redwoods in CA. How do you grow another tree like those ? The way we are ruinig this planet ,I fear , no I know, that oue planet doesn't have the amount of time that it took to grow those wondefrul, majestic trees. The species of wildlife , that has been driven to extinction already , is a sin ! Man , thinks only of today , and what amount of money he produces today , not the future.I think because they only are concerned with their own future, not their grand children's. The Native Americans took only what they needed, used evry part of anything they took from nature ,never destroyed a thing , ever. They gave back, not taking more then they could use. We have other forms of energy , like all the windmills in West Texas, , the amount of solar power being used now, should ahve been used back when it was developed. They warn , now on TV, about getting a converter box to HDTV before 2009 or you will see no picture , how is that a mandatory thing , and why aren't REAL issued given this attention ? The smell of industrial plants , mining , drilling , and all the other smells of progress cannot replace the sweet smell of clean, beautiful smelling AIR !! Pollutin goes down to the smallest part of the food chain, killing the tiniest insects who may be performing a task to help keep other insects away.I know that people need jobs , and unfortunately , a lot of them are in these job fields, why can't we put people to work making energy efficiant solar panels, GREEN jobs? My uncles were miners, they all paid the price , black lung . They were the only jobs available in the small part of the country I am from , it killed them and they knew the risk, not the full extent of it, but we are killing , slowly, innocent and ignorant ( to the facts ) ,people and they don't even know it , and frankly some don't care. Thanks for bringing this up on your site, pam

I think we all should do our part in saving the wilderness for the generations to follow. I am so thankful in my lifetime there were places to go for peace and rest without all the hustle and bustle over crowded and noisy. To see the wild animals in their place not in a zoo. Think about it and support keeping places that are WILD AND FREE, Trish

Well several years ago ranchers that used the forest kept saying if we don't start cutting the beetle trees down they will get out of control. They did and very bad fires were the norm. Now which is the worst logging for preservation or letting a fire really destroy everything? Now beetle killed trees are a hazard and that timber gotten in time makes very beautiful furniture, Paneling, homes etc. Which is worst using or letting fall down and rotting? I prefer to see what God lent us used and no I don't approve of trash loggers just responsible ones that care for the land. Folks have gotten so far removed from the land that they have no idea how nature etc work together. This is so sad. I asked someone if they let their yard and garden grow and get out of hand (of course not needs cutting and pruning) how strange people are funny. Well heres hoping for common sense to take over and maybe things will come together for the good of all. Saving isn't everything. Take care folks and may God Bless this great country once again.

NOW WE ARE HEARING THAT THE EL NIENO IS CAUSING THE EARTH TO COOL. NOT WARM. DON'T BELIVE EVERY THING AL GORE SAYS. AND I RESENT THE SCHOOLS PUSHING GLOBAL WARMING AND A LOT OF OTHER THING THEY ARE TEACHINGM THAT AREN'T TRUE. WHAT WE REALLY NEED TO DO AWAY WITH IS TRYING TO BE POLITICAL CORRECT.

I THINK WE NEED TO HAVE SOME COMMON SENCE, IN SAVING OUR WORLD. I HAVE LIVED IN A NATIONAL FORREST AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT THE AMERICAN INDIAN HAS MORE SENCE ABOUT HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE FORREST AND LANDS THAN ALL OF THE CONSERVATIONIST, ANY TIME WE GET GOVERNMENT ENVOLVED IN ANY THING, THEY SCREW IT UP. PEOPLE ARE TO RATICAL ABOUT WHAT IS GOOD FOR OUR COUNTRY. I THINK WHAT GOOD WILL IT DO IF YOU ARN'T GETTING TO USE THE LAND. IF YOU HAVE ANY PHICIAL IMPAIRMENT AT ALL, THERE IS NO WAY FOR YOU TO BE ABLE TO ENJOY OUR PARKS. I AGREE WITH STEVEN THERE SHOULD BE A WAY FOR EVERY ONE TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD TO VISIT AND USE OUR NATIONAL PARKS. IF THE GOVERNMENT IS GOING TO GET ENVOLVED LET THEM PAY TO CARE FOR OUR PARKS. IT WOULD MAKE FOR MORE JOBS AND WOULD COME OUT OF TAXES WE ALREADY PAY.

Hello Folk's whew this a one touchy touchy subject.I myself have seen a lot of our beautifull god given beauty disapeer just in my time and it truely is sad.I realize that we need to utilize what we have but geezzzzzzzzz use some common cent's!!What should have been done, which wasn't,was replace as we went and yes gready people that some are they went too fast for that now we have barren waste land's where once stood majestic forest's.Whats sad is the domino effect that take's place washing from the rain's and snow's & disese in whats left of the sparse forest that's left,If any at all is.I'm sorry but the people now just don't seem to care what happen's as long as they get what they want.Let me ask you this wouldn't it be nice if your grandkid's,neice's and nephew's could get to see what nature, as god intended it to be could be seen, really was like before it got RAPED!!!!I'm sorry but in my heart it really hurt's to see what has already happened when our politician's and lobbist's get gready and allow it to happen no matter what the end results are.Why should they care they make million's off it.IF it was done within reason and justly like it was done 60 yrs ago it would be diff. but we all know how it goe's now people don't give a care.we all know there's alternative's and if we would just slow down and CONSERVE it would last thru a lot of generation's yet. It's no longer a goverment by the people for the people look at the way our country is run now for the rich by the rich. Our politician's no longer can see the forest for the tree's and really don't care!!!!I really am sad my grandkids can't see the way it was when I was young should we'd have to drive a long way's to see it and I live smack in the middle of what used to be beuatifull mountain's and forest's now is just a stump farm and is becoming a runoff mess even the wildlife isn't what it used to be and thats sad.I just know the old Indian's are crying and turning over in their grave's at what we've lost so far!!!As I've said our grandfather's knew what they were doing and they preserved it then and it lasted till gread took over so WHY can't it be done that way again without gread and no concern as to the end result's??????

GLOBAL WARMING HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MANY YEARS.. AT ONE TIME A LARGE PART OF THE NORTHEN PART OF THIS UNITED STATES WAS ICE GLACIERS. I AM NEARLY 90 YEARS OLD AND I CAN REMEMBER THE COLUMBIA REVER BEING NEARLY FROZEN OVER IN THE WINTER TIME.. SO YOU CAN TALK ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING TILL HELL FREZES OVER AND YOU WILL NOT CHANGE A CYCLE THAT NATURE HAS PLANED FOR US.. THINK ABOUT IT...IF YOU HAD LIVED ABIT LONGER YOU WOULD KNOW THAT WINTERS WERE COLDER IN MONTANA A FEW YEARS AGO THAN THEY ARE NOW... AND THIS WINTER THERE HAS BEEN RECORD COLD IN THE MID WEST AND EAST...AND YOU HAVE HEARD TALK ABOUT THE OCEAN GETTING DEEPER BECAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING... AT SEA CLIFF IN CALIFORNIA THERE ARE SEA SHELL VISABLE IN THE BLUFF 35 FEET ABOVE THE NORMAL HIGH TIDE... SO PROOVE TO ME GLOBAL WARMING IS NOT A CYCLE WE ARE GOING THROUGH

I think it is common sense to do more with these areas. I like the idea of improving the existing roads that are already there. Also tree planting, thinning, and cleaning up dead trees would create jobs, reduce forest fires and make much better use of this land. In Montana it is normal to burn up over 100,000 acres in wild fires every year. And yes they spend a lot of money fighting the fires. Millions.

And nothing gets my dandruff up more than park fees for the poor people. Hey I been poor much of my life. County parks, state parks and federal parks are owned by all of us. Poor people who pay taxes, and I do mean only the ones that do pay taxes, should get into parks for free. Hey, they work and pay their way the best they can. By God they should get access to all the parks for free. Remember they are our friends and neighbors who just don't make as much money as some of the rest of us. Now someone tell me why the parks have to charge so much from people that can't afford it? I would be glad to pay a few bucks more each year so the working poor people could have free access.

Steven

Well here in Montana, we have quite a few places that are not accessible to most people. The Bob Marshall Wilderness is a very large and beautiful spot between the Mission Mtns and the Spotted Bear wilderness and the only way in is by horseback or a very long hike. I do understand the need for protected areas, but on the other hand taxpayers money is going to help preserve these places that some will never have the chance to see. There has to be a middle ground. Becca in Montana
