I guess it's all in how you define standard of living. I don't think that getting taxed 60% of your income is worth the so called higher standard. Free health care is not a higher standard of living. Not having true freedom of the press is not a higher standard of living. Not being able to use deadly force to protect ones person is not a higher standard of living. I could go on and on but it wouldn't change your mind. Just remember that you have to give up some government freebees to be truly FREE!

I am a proud American Christian. I support President Bushs' vision and plans for my beloved country. I will definitely be voting for him in the upcoming election. We must remember that the president is only one man. He does not have total control over what happens in this country. I believe he truly desires to implement the things that will turn our country back to the foundation it was originally built on but, sometimes his hands are tied by all the beauracratic hogwash that goes on in American politics. Instead of criticizing this man of God, we need to get behind him and support him with our prayers. It is time we take back our land and make a stand for the principles our Founding Fathers held to be true. God Bless America My Home Sweet Home. Lorrie.

I am a senior citizen, 64, and I have seen presidents go and I think our President is doing the best he can with all the trouble he is having with the congress, and otheers trying to undermine every thing he does. Read the Bible and see how all this is prophesied. We know when prayer was taken out of schools, violence came in. Now we can't disipline our children, and don't raise them up right. Our schools have no discipline because of some one not standing up for the Christian way the Bible says to train up our children. I was taught the Bible way, and I brought my children up the same way. No I was never cruel to them, but loved them enought to discipline them when they needed it. Don't blain our present President for that. If you don't like our country go some where else. Stand up for where you are , and be thankful you don't live in a country such as Sudan right now. Jesus Christ could come any time so prepare yourself. That is a time I am looking for , and until that time , I will try to live the way the Lord wants me to loving folks anyway-Rev. M. TX

I will support whomever is elected.. but I will vote for Bush... As far as social security and "what FDR intended us to have".. IT WAS MEANT FOR A SUPLEMENT .. But I agree the past goverment leaders should have kept their hands out of it.. YOU CAN ONLY VOICE THESE OPINIONS BECAUSE YOU ARE FREE.. TRY TO DO IT WHEN SADDAM WAS RULER OVER THERE..

Too Busy and Too much Trust in The Politicians. The Candidates are out campaigning for Millions for themselves while we are at war, yet our Armed Forces are not getting all the supplies they need, the Country is in debt, Americans are going withou, we are losing our freedoms and Ameticans are losing their lives--for the freedom of other countries, who dislike us. I suggest that you go to one or all of the other twenty-five countries and see how they live before advocating that they are better. In how many other countries could you go around protesting against the soldiers who are honorably serving their country, i.e., like the woman in California did over the weekend. She had the gall to say our soldiers should be slaughtered because of their stand and that the enemy should win. Also, if we really want to save our U.S. tax dollars we should contact our congressmen and senators about all the porkbarrell items they sneak in the budget for their home states. It is ridiculous some of the things that our money is spent for.

Headline on MSNBC 5 soldiers, 4 civilian contractors killed in Iraq During WWI or WWII or Korea or even Vietnam would this have made headlines? The American people need to stop and think of what the news media is doing to try to sway the public and especially young people into pacifism. This way they (the news media) will make more money generating headlines when the U.S. looses its will to fight terrorism and we have more like the twin towers. Also consider a daily body count for NYC, LA, Chicago or Miami. Does the national news media care? No, that is just life in our big city that exceeds our overseas casualties.

Most of the people who would support this are the ones who also leave the guns around the house for little ones to pick up and take to school, Who are never "there" to help their kids to achieve, and who don't want to be bothered to attend school activities, parent teacher conferences, or science fairs. Please don't start the old "well some of us have to work" theory it won't fly. I too was a working mom but I still took the time to attend every function I could to cheer my kids on in whatever endeaver they were into two in sports, one in choir, and one in band, yes it meant many an evening where I would rather have come in from work and relaxed but instead went to some event at school or it was the night it was my turn to work at the atheletic bingo or serve on some committee or other and believe me it was very inconveniencing but I lived though it. It was important to the kids and because of it they tried harder stayed with it and it gave them the chance to get the "award" at the end. This now is what we "must continue" to do for our kids. So Send round the petitions, start a "sit down strike" or a Protest march I'll be there to help even if my young'uns are no longer in school. It is time AMERICA STAND UP AND BE COUNTED!!!!!!!

For the people who are voting for Bush because he is a born again Christain, I am a Christain and I read the Bible. They say he prays for guidance in governing the country. I can't see the similarity between Bush and Jesus teachings. You say he saves the unborn babies. He is in office four years and Roe v. Wade is still in effect. Jesus teaches us peace and Bush wages war. Jesus teaches us to help the poor and needy. Bush helps the rich. Instead of punishing criminals, Bush rewards them with office appointments. I would suggest you open up the Bible and read it again. Jesus taught us to seek and ye shall find. Stop listening to Republican propaganda that Bush is spending millions of dollars on and seek the truth. Adeline from Pennsylvania

In case you forgot, Bush put us there because terrorists attacked our Nation (not our armies) of citizens and killed them for no reason other than hatred. We fight to free their citizens (like you are) and keep the terrorists away from US. War is senseless, but we live in a world with a lot of unsensable people. We have a President now that knows that just because we want peace that we can't stop people filled with hate by trying to appease them. What did we do before 9/11 to provoke that terrible deed. Our Nation has done more deeds of compassion than any other country and yet we lost almost 3,000 people, because of the evil in their hearts. If the people in this country do not recognize that our only hope is for us to be a God fearing, obedient nation, we do not deserve the protection of God and without it....all the social programs in the world will not help. Read Deuteronomy and see how to receive God's blessings. Electing a man that sees nothing wrong with murdering innocent babies in the womb, sanctioning homosexual unions and marriage and taking every symblance of God out of our public life will NOT bring God's blessing and protection.

I don't always agree with what the politicians do about passing certain laws, etc. but we are still free right now but if we elect certain people then that could very well be eroded. I know that this country has come to the point where one isn't sure in which direction to cast your vote (the lesser of 2 evils) but we MUST know and acknowledge that the corruption in our government today cannot be blamed on "ANYONE" except "WE THE PEOPLE" we have to be looking in a mirror when we throw the blame on the "president" the Congress or even the Senate. It is our own Lazy, Apathic lifestyle that let this happen!!! I know that most won't want to hear this I know that I to am at fault! We fail in most cases to actually do the homework and research our elected officials even on a community basis much less the federal level. How many do you know that actually "READ" the congressional reports. Actually find out what the new laws they are Passing on us entail not just the forfront of the law but actually find out what is in the "fine print" How many lawyers tell everyone all the time to Read the fine print. Also how many of the very people do you know I mean not just yourselves but your neighbors, friends, and aquaintences would be really willing to sacrafice anything for ''freedom". I tell my relatives all the time I want you to for an experiment go into your home this evening and look around and ask your self "truthfully" what here do I actually need (not want need) then ask yourself what could I do with out (just for an experiment) Could I give up the microwave, TV, video games, (stuff that uses lots of electricity) What about turning off the lights not needed. And as for the gas what trips can I do without how badly do I really need to run to the grocery store just for one or two items. Do you recycle?? How many have teenage kids in school who drive a car to school?? We do have buses!! Lots of kids are within bike range. You look at the kids from foriegn countries most walk alot more and are a lot healthier than us for it. But here we will pass the buck yet again and say "let the other guy do it" And then I see all around us these 400--600 thousand dollar houses going up big and beautiful they are I agree but then I see people living in these huge houses with only one or two kids. In my folks day a big house was necessary (BIG FAMILIES) they needed them but today it is just a "status symbol" people admit it be honest!!! but that status symbol takes much more to heat and cool takes away from the ozone by all the trees they kill to build them in the "country" and not to mention the farmland that is disappearing at an alarming rate used to be America could feed it's own but now they import "forien" people like they are going out of style and export our jobs so it take 2 people to work to afford our huge "status" symbols that I know we could actually do without but we "CHOOSE" the status symbol the immaculate yard that can't have a flower garden much less a vegtable patch to grow fresh veggies and we won't even let the kids play on the "lawn" cuz they might tear it up. In my day the Yard was meant for the kids to Play in we as a 'family" played ball and red rover instead of video games and were a lot healther besides now days ya gotta join the 'country club to get some excercise why not plan a good walk pulling a wagon to the grocery store instead of driving. There are lots of things we could be doing for our country and our OWN WELL BEING but we choose to be lazy apathic and look the other way when we could be doing our own little sacraficing!!! THINK ABOUT IT then look at all these people we see in Iraq and Iran and India, Africa They sure wouldn't mind just a small house "like most of us have as a hunting cabin" and a chance to grow a small veggie garden when I see them heading for the refugee camps with nothing but a small bag of belongings I can't help but wonder that THERE BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD AND OUR FREE COUNTRY GO I!!! Isn't it worth a little sacrafice on our part. Yes I think "we the people" are the blame for what is wrong in this country today and if we would quit squabbling amongst ourselfs and "stick together" no matter race creed or color. we could accomplish so much Please Think about it.

Boy, are there ever some great comments on this site. If everyone who have expressed their heartfelt feelings here would also send their comments to their Congressmen and Senators, they would be inundated with mail from "we the people" and it might just make a huge difference. All they hear from are those who protest, liberal news media, those pushing agendas, such as gay marriage, those who count every evil deed and word as "first amendment rights" etc. Their "rights" usually take away someone elses, you know? One woman took prayer out of schools, and one judge started the ball rolling to remove our Ten Commandments from public schools and places. A lot of voices could even do more. Make your voices heard in the right places that could turn this Nation back around to morality and decent entertainment and honest politicians. Go For It.!!!!

I do believe that party politic is like team commitment, but you have to use your own criteria, most voters like to vote for all the candidate on their party no matter which party. That is why call the system "Democracy, it give you the right to vote for the candidate of your choice, that's that. Now .. if you feel your candidate is no doing his or her job, simply give them the boot. The next time around, pick someone else, God bless America for giving us the chance to exercise that right. Some day maybe in a hundred years the country will pick the right person with a soul toward the people instead of personal financial gains, but... if you are rich there is nothing to worry about who is living at the 1600 Penn. Ave, they will make sure you never go poor. If you are poor like the most of us who care anyway, no politician ver worked for the benefit of the poor, only one person who really like to help and be there for you no matter to what party you belong, I'm not for his party, but he really help, Chet Edwards

The only thing that seams to have influence any more is money. In a country full of "Christians" we don't seem to make very "Christ Like" decisions, or implement "Christ Like" programs. It seams like those are the first things abandonded in this money and power hungry world. Jesus warned us that the love of money was the root of all evil, and that is very evident today, espically in our government and The White House.

And will vote for him only because of that belief. Best you look deeply into your hearts. He doesn't have a Christian bone in his body and everything he does or says clearly shows that if you would only look closely. Read his body language, look deep into his eyes. He is a greedy, lying, power hungry politician who cares nothing for the struggling masses, only for the rich and powerful. And obviously, you haven't lost a loved one in Iraq or you would feel differently about our "wonderful, Christian president". He is a disgrace to our country. He has turned more countries against us than any president in history. I strongly agree with the people who tell everyone to vote. It is so important that the struggling masses get out and vote or the wonderful Christian people will reelect the poorest excuse for a president this country has seen in our history. I am a God fearing (and loving) Christian who can see right thru the man who loves to let everyone know that he is a "born-again" Christian and God pity us all if he is reelected.

The only wasted vote is no vote. If you cannot vote either for the Party that wants to send your job overseas or the party that wants to steal everything you earn if you have a job, then VOTE for a third party or person. The election funding is rigged so that as third parties get more votes, they get more funding. Find a person or party you believe in and VOTE. Work for them, get involved, and don't let the Republican Party or Democrat Party get away with their scams anymore.

They want to keep hanging on to there free medical, and forever pensions. By the way, comes from our taxes and poor pockets! I say vote for "NONE OF THE ABOVE"! Put Clinton back in if anyone! At least he did for the middle and low income people! The majority of the USA! Bush took it all away the first day he was in office,(plus our jobs) and Kerry sounds like he wants to do away with Social Secureity! We get $400.00 a month(avg.) and he wants to tax that also! Our taxes are being taxed ontop of taxes! If you all want us to be your slaves, then JUST DO IT! We already are anyways behind a smoke screen! What would happen if all of the USA refused to pay our taxes? Would you shut off our electric and gas? We lived before without it all before. But it would be YOU hurting this country then!!!! Just like you are now!!!! This is the truth! They call this the land of the free? I don't think so! Don't get me wrong, I love my country! Just not how our greedy leaders are becomeing! I'm sure this will be traced back to me and I will end up dead or missing by stating my mind! We don't even have the right to speech any more, with out being put into prison! What country does this remind you of???? The same one's we have been destroying!!!! Are they hiding something? Vote... "NONE OF THE ABOVE, OR NONE AT ALL!" STOP PAYING TAXES!!! What can they do to us if we all stopped paying there pay check? We shouldn't even be in Iraq. If Bush hadn't decided to finish what his father didn't we wouldn't have to be so worried about our young soliders over there. Thank god my grandaughter came back safly after being there for a year. Send some of these foreigners back to their own country and let their own governments take care of them. We need someone who can make more jobs for the middle income fammilys. So that they can live and have a decent life. We keep losing more and more businesses to froeign countries and in doing so there are less and less jobs. I think that our country is really in a big mess. I really feel sorry for my children and grandchildren as they don't seem to have much to look forward too. It is time for a BIG CHANGE IN OUR GOVERNMENT. MAYBE WE NEED SOME ONE NEW. I think it will take a little more than praying to God to fix our country. This mess was not brought on by Bush. Saddam has been raging for years and no one would take steps to remove him. You all felt safe as long as he,(Saddam), did not touch you. Think of the hundreds he did touch. He had to be removed, whether there are weapons or not.. As far as the comments about Social Security - It wasn't meant to *live on*.. it was a supplement.. Get it!!!? Yes, there is a need for Welfare, but it is so abused, and no one seems to care.. (let's have another baby)..I might as well take my check and throw it out the window for them to use.. We are supporting people's sexual lives (we pay for their viagra)<We pay for their abortions...I don't know about anyone else, but I resent paying for these..I work, I work very hard.. and I resent the people who sit around watching tv's, driving new cars, playing on the computer all day... on my money.. You speak of our country divided... well no duh!! Everyone can critize Bush or other presidents.. but you never see them get off their lazy bottoms and help.. I voted for Bush - and will again.. however, if Kerry get's in .. I will get behind him.. and do what I need to do.. Why? Because I am an American.. and that is what an American is suppose to do..

Thank you for the opportunity to express our opinions. Our country is in a mess. God has been taken out of everything that SOME people can take him out of and if it doesn't change He will be taken out of everything else. If our founding fathers that wrote the constitution could have seen the future and what a mess our government is in I think that they would have forgotten the whole thing and chartered a boat and RAN back to where they came from. Our country was founded on Christian principles and it is far from that now. I don't know how God has let it go on as long as he has but he is a long suffering God , but if you look in your Bible he destroyed countries for less than what we have done. As for the president I don't claim to be a republican or a democrat. I pray about it and vote for who I think that God wants me to. I heard George Bush say on nationwide television that he has accepted Jesus Christ as his savior. That means everything to me. I am not saying that he is perfect. No one is. How could someone come into the mess that our government is in and straighten it out in 4 years. If he does the very best he can it is an uphill mountain to climb and will get slow results. I think that he means it when he says that he prays for guidance. This is our only hope. If we ever want God to bless our nation again we have to get Godly men in there and I think that President Bush is a good start. I don't care about all the things that people are saying about him not serving his country to suit them..It wouldn't matter what he did in the military they would still find things to try to get our wonderful military people not to vote for him. It is very important to serve our country but it is more important to serve our God that made this country. I think that he is doing the best job that he can in spite of the circumstances. He is only a man but I pray that he is a man that is allowing God to lead him. We need to be on our knees praying for him and all the others that have leadership positions in our country before it is too late............

I have enjoyed your site and the commentary as well.Almost everyone that wrote has the same scenario about our good old USA. We need to clean up our act, and start taking care of our own people here in the States first before we start going overseas and spend a lot of money making war against others to protect people that reall do not want us there to begin with. Let us go back to the basics and the government that this country was founded with. ie Government based on a belief in God that IS by the people and for the people, and ONE nation UNDER GOD. We should not even be spending money to remove that part of the pledge of allegiance. It belongs there or our fathers would not have voted to put it there to begin with. Wake up America. Elect Leaders that will do for US and not some special interrest group. Jim Brewer S.C.

Let your voice be heard through your vote and by telling your representatives in Congress how you feel about Bills before them. They do listen and I have received letters as to how they will be voting on that particular item. We as Americans cannot afford to have our rights taken away; I speak about those whom our forefathers founded our country upon. This nation was established upon Christian principles. Yet we stand by and allow a few or in some cases one individual to speak out and have our rights taken from us. We are a nation founded under GOD. We as nation will fall if we continue to let these rights be taken away.

If the Republicans and the Democrats stopped fighting each other and STARTED fighting for the people, Stopped giving themselves, I mean Senators, congressmen, ETC. big fat raises everytime they turned around and DREW the Social security like a regular Joe they would UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT, WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY. HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN FOOD AMD MEDICATION they would know what THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT MEDICARE!!!!HAD TO LIVE A COUPLE OF MONTHS IN A GHETTO THEY COULD TALK ABOUT HOUSING AND KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. You got to LIVE IT before you can KNOW what you are talking about to the fullest extent. You can make all the promises in the world but ACTION speaks louder than words. I enjoy your site! I believe that President Bush has done a very good job of what he inherited from Clinton. The economy was already on the downward slide when Bush took office, the the terrorist attackes cause the economy to go down more and now it is going up. I also do not vote for the party but for the man who believes in what I believe and does the things I believe in. There are some things I would change about our country tho. I believe we need to help the American people first instead of sending so much money to other countries who do not like us and will stab us in the back when ever they can. I know we are suppose to help our neighbors but our neighbors are here. I also believe the Congress people and Senators need to get Social Security instead of having their security tied up in the budget where they can get as much as they need. If I could bet $794,000.00 for the rest of my life then my spouse gets the same amount until he dies I would be happy. I know they serve our country but they get paid doing that. That is another thing. We should vote on their raises instead of the leaders. Thanks for letting me express myself. G.W.,Texas

This story is so very true for my own personal experience. I am one of those Americans who has no health care, even though I pay $65 a month for Medicare. It covers very little for me, being 47 and disabled. I need to get my teeth repaired and they don't cover teeth on Medicare. Also, the co-payments are too high when I do have to use the doctor services, so I don't go to the doctor. Period. I honestly don't know who to vote for in this up-coming election, and not just because I don't have good doctor care. I don't know what the truth is about the people who are running for office. All I know is that I WILL vote, because this country is the greatest country in the world and I have the right to vote. I will more than likely vote how I have always voted...for the lesser of two evils. I will look at what we have and weigh it against the other candidate. If I don't personally know a whole lot about the other candidate, I will vote for what I DO know. It may be skewed voting, but I feel more comfortable voting for what I have now than what I don't know about. I have always voted Republican, not because of the party, but because it seemed they had the best pickings from the bunch. And say what you will about Mr. Bush, but he is a God-fearing family man, and that says a lot to me and my family. He may have to play ball with the clowns, but he loves the same God I love, and that's good enough for me. His life bears his walk with our Lord. The media can't find any dirty scandals in his closet, so they dig up other junk...just before the election (why is THAT?!)...and trot it out to make us all go "what a terrible man". It seems to be a big game to those in the media...finding dirt on a Godly person. Never mind the good stuff he's done. And may I remind everyone that it was Mr. Clinton who opened up our borders and let all our jobs go out to sea. I lost my job about 8 years ago, when Mr. Clinton opened up our borders and my job when to Mexico. Now I have to live on disablility, even though I could still do that work. I heard, once, that the actions of our current president won't be felt until the next one takes office. It takes that long for some of his influence to pass congress and leak down to us little people. We are reaping what Mr. Clinton has sown upon us, believe it or not. Just know that out in the real world, people do think differently than the media tries to make us believe. Yes, I believe that I live in the greatest country in the world. And if we would spend our money wisely, we would be even greater. If we would take care of our own people first, we would have enough to help others too. I think the greatest thing Mr. Bush could do right now is to stop what Mr. Clinton started and close our borders, keeping the rest of our jobs at home. Before too long, we will only be a service-oriented country, allowing all of the manufacturing to be done by foreign countries. They may have cheaper labor, but no one manufactures like Americans. I worked in a factory, making circuit breakers. I put quality in every part that passed my hands. I put pride in my work. I wasn't lazy. I didn't work because my government required it. I worked because I loved my job. So, with that said, if I could change the course of America right now, I would do just a few things. Keep God where He has always been...at the heart of this great country that was founded on our forefathers seeking a place to come and be missionaries. I would close our borders to our jobs leaving this country and give incentives to them to remain here. Close our borders to foreign investors owning American property (you wouldn't believe how much of America is owned by foreign companies). Keep the families intact by helping them stay together through counseling, instead of divorce. Keeping marriage between a man and a woman the only way to a solid, strong family. Allowing our churches to have more influence in our communities through counseling and other community programs...thus putting social services out of business and saving us millions of dollars. Churches USED to do these things, years ago. But us Christians got lazy and let the government do our jobs. And they take it out of your check every week in the form of FICA. I think if we start with these basics, we will see this country turn into an even greater country. As for voting...well, let's continue to try to learn the truth about each candidate, not what the media would lead us to believe. If the only information you believe is what you hear on TV, you are looking at the world upside down. Write to your legislators. Go to your town meetings. When your representative comes to your district, go see them. Hold their feet to the fire. Learn all you can. If you don't do this, you have no right to whine when things don't go your way. If you don't participate in this country through voting and honoring Godly values, well...you see what we've got? It will get worse. <*)))><

I do believe that America is still a Great Country and I will always be loyal to this belief! But this country was founded on a Christian Belief in A "ALMIGHTY" power who is our "GOD" now our government and our "Supreme Court" want to take away OUR Country's Right to display our Christian Belief in ONE GOD INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!!!! This line seems inappropriate these days. With all that goes on under our governments noses that they approve of (depends on which group is doing the whining at the time) I don't think you can blame a "president" only I think you have to blame the entire government system that is taking on "GOD's" job of judging people and religious beliefs instead of doing the job they were elected to do. This country was founded by christians under a Christian belief. Live with it. And since they started taking GOD out of our public buildings, schools, courthouses, etc. things have really gone downhill. When will we have to start hiding in caves to worship as we please!!!! This rings of why the first pilgrims fled to this "new" country in the first place. And by the way if we aren't to believe in GOD why then on 9/11 did we see everyone praying even on the white house lawn???? And what about all those "white crosses" in Arlington do we rip those up too?? Religious freedom is one of our very basic rights and I don't profess to tell anyone how to worship but leave our "GOD" fearing "Republic" in HIS hands and elect officials who tend to the business they were elected for not give them the power that doesn't go with the position. We let government get to much power in this country and there fore we lose our freedom in the guise of "security"

This year do NOT vote republican or democrat This year CHECK OUT THE "AMERICAN PATROIT PARTY" read what they stand for and take a stand for FREEDOM, AND GETTING OUR COUNTRY BACK INTO THE HANDS OF WE THE PEOPLE. We also shouldn't have to be millionaire's to just run for office that is another part of our policital problem here no wonder an honest person can't run we can't afford too~~~~~Like I said Check out the American Patriot Party I did and I made my decision. Fine words you've written about our political system, and how you infer it's so corrupt because the persons in office may be influenced by donations received from special interest groups and such. BUT, don't you think the politicians seeking office in these Parliamentarian systems (you seem to long for) just may be receiving donations and such from special interest groups in their countries, and then making decisions and votes based on those donations, and/or offers to trade one vote for another. Unfortunately, that's the way it works in virtually every political system. Each political party has their own beliefs in how the country should be run, thus they represent that part of the populace that agrees with their beliefs. As for exchanging one vote for another, ... sometimes, trading votes is the only way the party in the minority can hope to pass legislation they believe in. The last thing this country needs is more socialistic ideas being tossed around. I like you would like to see everyone covered with medical protection, ... AS LONG AS THEY WORK TO PAY FOR IT. I'm sick and tired of hearing from people, who for the most part, CHOOSE not to work, and instead, live off of our welfare systems. I find it hard to understand why a female who has NEVER held a job (and chooses not to work), can get very good medical coverages from the government, receive tuition payments for college education, receive food stamps, and receive much (if not all) of her housing paid for. At the same time, my wife and I ( both of us work full time) can't afford to buy medical coverage, pay for tuition, and are just barely making it, aren't eligible for any of the help given the the people on welfare. It really ticks me off, knowing that I'm paying taxes so someone else can live off of welfare at my expense. I would like to know just which 25 countries you say have a better living standard than ours. I'd also like to know what kind of criteria is being used by the people that say these other countries have better living standards. Any country in the world can have a better living standard than any other country. It just depends on what criteria you use to determine what the living better standards are. As for me, I sure don't live the high life, but I can guearantee you THERE IS NO BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN THIS WORLD THAN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ..... PERIOD.

Quit using 9/ll as an excuse for the war in Iraq. It had nothing to do with Iraq! Osama wasn't in Iraq and that was well known. Quit using the idea that you can not be a Christian and still vote for a Democrat. That is like being against the war is not supporting the boys in Iraq!! Please this is still a free country and that is why you are able to write what you think on this website! It does not seem like many of you are sounding very Christian yourselves. I have travelled throughout the world and am hard pressed to believe that the quality of life in general in any country is as good as it is here. It is usually the persons who know only "what they have read, or have been told" who feel that life is better elsewhere. There is poverty here. There is inequality here... but it is better here than anywhere else on this earth. You do have rights here. If all you can do is criticize the country please exercise one of them and leave. Go, PLEASE, to one of the places where "life is better". I assure you that life here will be better when you are gone.

This country is in such a sad state of affairs. I have read through many of the comments posted and would like to comment on a few of the statements made. Yes, I believe that politicians should say " I will TRY this.. Or I will TRY that..., but they aren't going to say that because they want to PROMISE us the perfect country. Wouldn't it be great if their promises were kept? Even if they have good intentions to follow through with their "promises" eventually they are "bought" by big money and for whatever reasons, their promises get lost. But we don't make them account for their words.Just for the sake of accuracy, I looked up the words : Politic,Politics, and Politician...in the Webster's Universal Collegiate Dictionary. Do you know some of the definitions of those words?? Politic- "contrived in a shrewd and practical way"Politics - To deal with people in an opportunistic or manipulative way" Politician - "a person who uses public office to advance _personal_ or partisan interests" Hmmm, is it any wonder why we are dissatisfied with someone who is shrewd, opportunistic, manipulative and wants to advance his personal interests?? Also, as someone who is disabled ( and would MUCH rather be working and productive!) I paid into Social Security while I was able to work. Unfortunately, I CAN'T work. Possibly the person who stated that the disabled should be taken off the roles, doesn't have someone who is disabled in their family. Heaven forbid , YOU should become disabled! How would you survive? You said we should be taken care of by our state or county. We PAID into the system, while we worked. The same as you are now. Do you honestly think we sit back leisurely and draw a check ? I had a fantastic profession and I loved going to work every day! I was a nurse and throroughly enjoyed my job! But that was taken away from me in the blink of an eye. I have constant pain EVERY DAY AND NIGHT. I have had numerous surgeries. I can't do things with my family, like camping, playing with the grandkids,or even a simple thing like lifting a gallon of milk! I have Medicare, but not Medicaid or any other insurance to cover extensive medical bills. Would you want to change places with me? Cuz I WOULD love to work! Just think how different YOUR life COULD be if you were in these shoes. I thank God that I am ALIVE. I am grateful that I live in a country that offers Social Security Disability.    There are so many things our politicians offer us.. but they cannot and will not keep all those promises. So do we choose the lesser of 2 evils? Do we do "eeny meeny, miney moe, catch a politician by the toe, when he hollers, let him go, eeny, meeny, miney moe!" I am grateful that in this country we have a RIGHT to choose whom we vote for. In the end, not everyone will be happy about the winner. That is how it always is. But we NEED to vote, it does matter. Because if we didn't TRY to get our person elected , we shouldn't complain about who DOES win.

I agree with most of what "Independent Voter" said. Politics has become the "rich man's" field and any candidate must cater to the big corporations, labor unions and the wealthy who provide the funds for his/her candidacy. As a result we now have a government of special interests rather than a government for the betterment of the country and all it's citizens. Until we voters take an interest in, listen to, and question what politicians say and compare that to what they do, we will continue to have a "bought and paid for" government. We should expect our elected officials to keep in mind at all times what is best for the country as a whole rather than for a particular constituency (or political party), but before that can happen we must be willing to give up our own pet projects and wants. All politicians should be required to justify their actions and if unable to do so should be removed from office. You don't like what your elected officals are doing? Then VOTE and urge everyone you know who is of like opinion to do the same. It is not only your right, it is your duty as a responsible citizen.

I certainly agree with you wholeheartedly. It is getting so you can't believe anything anyone says. I personely do not care for anyone running for president. The person who is smart enough to get us out of this mess can't afford to run. And it is a mess. I wonder what is going to happen to this country. With jobs going overseas I have always said the people here that are greedy and wanted more money were going to price thereselves out of business. They have done that. In our little town we have had a Judge who was executer of a man (a friend) that left a million dollars to town of Greenup and he spent the money on his own business. A Circuit clerk that took money from old people. One got 120 days and judge got 7 years and is already on work release after going to prison 1 year ago. Politics? you better believe it. So we in this County are fed up. nance@rr1.net

I agree with you, however I think one should vote for the lesser of two evils and definately not a person who turned his back on fellow GI's and lied and distorted the truth. The taxes on SOC, the NAFTA and the giving away of the Panama canal was all done at the hands of the liberals. I truly believe if a liberal wins we will have extremely high taxs again, the FBI, CIA, Military and every other protection agency weakened to the lowest level in history.

I FOR ONE WILL NOT VOTE FOR ANYONE WHO BUYS HIS WAY INTO THE ELECTION FOR PRESIDENT. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE ARE AN AWFUL LOT OF SENIOR CITIZENS WRITING TO YOU WITH THEIR OPINIONS. WELL, THIS IS STILL A FREE COUNTRY WE CAN VOTE FOR WHOM WE WISH. I, TOO, AM A SENIOR CITIZEN, SOON TO BE 80. I HAVE LIVED THRU THE DEPRESSION---WHO GOT US OUT OF IT? A DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT DID. AS A HARD WORKING PERSON FROM A FAMILY THAT WORKED HARD AND NEVER ACCEPTED AND FREE HANDOUTS. WE CAN'T ALL BE THE WAY RUSH LIMBAUGH BELIEVES EVERYONE, OF VALUE, SHOULD BE. THANK GOD THE DEMOCRATS HAVE THOUGHT ENOUGH FOR THE LITTLE MAN. IF IT WASN'T FOR THE LITTLE MAN THE WEALTHY WOULD NOT HAVE IT SO NICE AND EASY. WHO WOULD SERVE THEM IN RESTURANTS, RUN SERVICE STATIONS, KEEP THE STREETS CLEAN, CLERK IN STORES, DELIVER YOUR MAIL, HAUL YOUR TRASH, CLEAR THE SNOW IN THE WINTER? THERE ARE MORE OF US LITTLE GUYS SO THINK ABOUT IT. THEY SAY THERE WILL ONLY BE TWO CLASSES--THE RICH & THE POOR. I'M A WIDOW, NOT RICH, NOT HUNGRY, WARM WITH A ROOF OVER MY HEAD. I for one side with you wholeheartly. My husband and argue about this. I am tired of having all these politicians belowing smoke up our rears and never holding up to what they promise during their campaigns. It's like the issue of social security, there would be no need for all this debate over it if they hadn't stolen all the surpluses from social security and medicare to pay off the huge deficits they created in the first place. I for one do not care about a spiders sex life which was supported by us. My boyfriend and I can not get married or even live together because I'll lose my benefits for medicine and doctor's bills. I am totally disabled and i am too young to get supplememntal insurance. There are those of who would rather be working than be in the position, but we can't. You cannot get that insurance if you are under 64 years. Just last year, one of my doctors told my boyfriend it was just a matter of time. But don't cry for me keep fighting for what is right. We now live in a different world than the one we loved growing up in. Since 911 US citizens have to put up with terrorist warnings to buildings, bridges, tunnels, stadiums, monuments and crowded gatherings. Do we want to put up with this the rest of our lives? If not, we need to ALL back our troops in Iraq. Think of how you want to live out the rest of your life, then choose fearfully or in freedom. If we all get blown up, nothing else we worry about will matter. God Bless our Freedom Fighters and God Bless the United States of America.

I definately have said and will always say, all politions are crooked. Some (a hand full) may not be. When they go on their campagne trail. I should not be said by any of them. "If I am elected I will do this, or I will do that. It should be said, "I will try to do this" or "I will try to do that," Bills have to be passed through so many channels they can and have been on many times turned down, for one reason or another. The bickering that goes on between grown men and woman is disgraceful. Let's get rid of the ones that have been in power forever and put some new blood in there, maybe, just maybe that would be one good solution. MJS. t

2004 will be known as one of the most crucial elections in our history. George W. Bush is not perfect by any means, but he is a good man and he has my vote. John Kerry will say anything to get elected. He learned well from Clinton & Company. All the botox in the world won't help Kerry lie his way to the White House. I don't think Americans are as stupid as Kerry thinks they are. I personally think the homosexual agenda will be what puts President Bush over the top. Like the man said: "Men marrying men. Women marrying women. What in the hell is happening to America." Good grief!

Why is it that people from other countries can be flown to our country at taxpayer expense and receive free medical care while the public is fundraising to provide medical care for our citizens that are denied lifesaving treatments because they cannot pay? Why is it that people that have cancer or some sort of short term illness and are in temporary treatment cannot receive temporary disability while they recover but alcoholics, drug addicts and overweight people can get permanant disability? Why are government employees that have worked their whole lives not eligible for disability because the government is exempt from paying into social security?

President Bush and his wife Laura have given our Country back the dignity we lost during the Clinton years. They are Christians and he prays and asks for guidance in leading our Country in these troubling times. He isn't perfect and has made mistakes but compared to the last 8 years he has been a LEADER. Most of my life I was a Democrat but I didn't leave the Demoratic Party they left me with their Liberalism. I will stll vote for the man and not the party. I am a Christian and I will vote my convictions. I also try to stayed informed on all of the canidates. Why can't we make our officials legally responsible for their campaign promises the way we make businesses responsible for false advertizement? Why are the lies of politians not punishable by losing the position like the lies of an emloyee? I would love to be ensured years of work at inflated wages and a superb retirement no matter what I did once I was hired for a job. Why do the officials get to set their own wages and health care and retirement options so far above those of the public? Why does the jobless rate only count those still on unemployment while those thrown off because they have not been able to find work in so long that they are no longer given a way to live and because of this our jobless rate is decreasing?

I think someone should look into the Social Security Act. Franklin Delano Rosevelt introduced it as a retirement pension for people over 65, in 1936. Most people do not receive enough to live on, let alone, enjoy their retirement years. Take DISABILITY PAYMENTS OFF, from out of our Social Security!! That's why there isn't enough for the seniors....! Your politicians over the years have used it to get votes, for everything else, It is being used for everything but.....retirement! Leave DISABILITY payments to the cities or states to take care of Their Own Residents! We don't need to support people, from our Social Security Funds, who are unable to work, because of illhealth, or fatherless children or all of the other nonsense things which are being paid through the Social Security Funds. These are welfare problems, Social Security is NOT Welfare... We are from the "GOLDEN GENERATION", and have lived through the Great Depression and The Invasion of Normandy, worked hard, saved a few dollars and still paying taxes.... Take all these No-loads off of OUR Social Security and DON'T TAX THE ELDERLY, anymore. Then, we would all be able to enjoy the retirement years that we all looked forward to and what FDR intended us to have. God Help Us All. Amen.

You have made the statement that half the people you know have no health care at all. I think you should reevaluate that statement. They may have no health care that they pay but they have hospital care when needed and there is help for those without organized health care. We are on medicare without any medical from previous employers. We have had no problems arising from not having any organized health care. We have friends who are much younger, working for employers that have no health care, and they experience no, repeat no, problem getting any no charge health care, from treatment for a simple cold to by-pass heart surgery. I just want to add that we are living in the most dangerous times in my life and I am a Senior Citizen also, but according to the Bible these times have been propheseid about. We can debate politics forever, but what we do with Jesus is what counts. When we go to the polls and vote for a man that clearly tells us he is going to protect a woman's right to "murder" a helpless little baby, he doesn't believe the Bible speaks against homosexual unions or marriages and on and on, and if we believe that God is a Holy God do we think he will bless us when we vote and elect that kind of leadership. God is the source of our blessings and he will do a better job of it than ANY politician.

He is spinning webs...of half truths...because he doesn't know. What would he have done in the few months after 9/11, what would any of us do. What would Jesus have done? Christ would have KNOWN it was comming, and KNOWN what to do, but we are humans, and so is Bush, he went to God for his answers, and got them. How many of us get on our knees and PRAY to God for guideance EACH AND EVERY DAY of OUR Lives????? I pray for our Nation, I pray for our world, I pray for our leadership NOW in office.I pray for those of you who believe in this Independent....look at England, must HISTORY REPEAT It's self here in the America for that kind of government????? I love the way of life that is simple, but we cannot as the older generation stay in our "comfort zone" and let the Independts and the Liberals keep taking away our rights each day...pretty soon we Christians will have to meet in secret, in order to meet!!!! I believe Pat Paulsen had the right idea. I don't see where we need Foreign Aid. We are Trillions of dollars in debt now. We are living on a runaway credit card. How do we give away money that we don't have? People are starving to death all over the world and we are worried if we get three balanced meals and a snack every day. The health system here is pitiful yet people keep building houses so big that it probably takes a half a day to get from one end to the other. I think, if the truth be known that half the people don't even use half of their houses. I believe That there is enough money in the good ol USA that no one should have to go hungry or without healthcare. As long as this is a dog eat dog society, everyone trying to out do the Jones's and the hell with everybody else. This country won't ever change. I don't have any answers and I am part of this society. They say all nations that have become great has fell. Even Krushelf said that we would destoy ourselves. May God have mercy on our souls. Someday we will be judged for what we did with what we had. This too will come to pass. Politics, if it wasn't crooked they wouldn't be in it. Larry W. Hilliard God help us!

Everyone needs to get out and vote, but first they should educate themselves about issues. Don't vote for a party because your parents belonged to that party. Study the position taken by the candidate. As a Christian, I do not feel we should be voting for pro-abortion, euthanasia supporting candidates or candidates who will not recognize that God's Word is the final word on homosexuality and other moral concerns. Of course, we love the sinner but we should hate the sin and quit voting for candidates who proudly tell us how they are going to support immorality. If we think a political party is going to solve our problems, where does that place God? Back in the corner and uncaring for what is going on in this world? Either God is God and we honor Him or we will pay a price. That is my opinion. MN in IL.

I wish this country would elect president with the most votes, not on who got more electorial votes. I believe the "poplar vote" is actually who should be elected. Afterall, isn't that the person with the MOST votes? Our country is in decline. Helping out other countries is a great thing to do, but helping our own country should take presidence. Well said....AMEN!!! Plus....it's sad to see many Americans trying to live out their lives without healthcare that they can afford. Then there are those of us who do our best to pay high premiums to insurance companies who in turn don't cover this and don't cover that as far as hospital bills and other needed services incurred. To think that over 1/3 of some people's income is needed to cover their healthcare premium costs is mind-boggling. It could all be so simple for the elderly if a system was used that covered them all and within reasonable means. Is this really a democratic society and the land of the free? Politicians make all kinds of promises that never come true to fact. I only hope that our next president, whomever he or she will be, will do some much needed changes towards helping the American people to be able to afford healthcare. I'll vote....as I always exercise that right, but I won't be voting for any certain party. I'll vote for whomever I feel will help the people of this country out the most. WE NEED CHANGES!!!! There is nothing wrong with this country that couldn't be fixed by a return to the original concepts of the Constitutional Republic the Founders gave us, first and foremost of which was a profound belief in and reliance on the God revealed in the Bible. If parliamentary government is so beneficial to mankind then pray tell why this nation is so full of escapees from nations that have parliamentary governments? If Americans knew their Civics and History they would quickly realize that 100% of the power to govern lies in the hands of the people, which is its only proper repository. The garbage taught as "History" and "Civics" in public schools from kindergarten through college isn't worth the paper it's printed on - so no wonder we have no knowledge of our rich heritage or how we got it. I believe the record will show that in the last 30 years or so the average voter turnout is less than 35%. When so few vote it is easy for special interests to control things. If you would like to see things different find 3 people who seldom vote, educate them on the issues, even your point of view, and see to it they get to the polls on election day. If every person that does vote would just do that, with 90% of the people participating you would see most of the changes you seem to be looking for. cdi44@yahoo.com

It is a shame we can't vote like we would like to vote for the man only not the party. I agree with the artical, politics is something else...

It is getting quite obvious that this country (USA) is on a decline. Our president, Pres. Bush and some before him, are guilty. This president is sure not taking care of USA citizens. He is bent on trying to police the world instead of taking care the citizens of the US. We have millions of people with no health care, cannot afford medicine, job market in decline and so many other problems and he wants to stick our nose in every countries problems instead of fixing our own. Politics have become so rotten that now they all ever do it fight over everything that would make it better for the citizens. If one party brings up a bill to pass, the other party shoots it down. When are they going to start working for the people instead of their own interests. The president and his opponent are ripping each other up all of the time to make each other look bad. The congress can't seem to agree on anything anymore. I think it is time to get rid of the two party system and elect people on the ability to get things done. If we could brain wash all of them to get party politics out of their head and let them vote on items that are good for the country, I think you would see a whole different picture.

Each of the Parlimentary Countries you failed to specifically identify, must be viewed with an eye toward exactly WHAT kind of Parlimentary Democracy really exists. Here is a rather informative comment about England and the link: Our system of government gives incredible power to the prime minister and his cabinet. Francis and others perceived that as a flaw. But even if people can participate directly in policy-making from a technological point of view, it won’t necessarily happen because our constitution does not recognize the sovereignty of the people. In the US, such change is possible, because the US constitution says that the people give the government their authority. Our authority comes from a British statute which was enshrined in our constitution. The only way to change this is to change the constitution, which is extremely difficult.
