The Telephone No-Call list is GREAT. It has virtually stopped the telemarketers dead in their tracks in my area. Now if they could stop the SPAM filthy e-mails that I am getting it would totally MAKE MY DAY. I'm a 75 year old widow, and have absolutely no need for 'Penis Enlargement' info. St. Louis Pat

This article says that one man said that consumers must find a way to say no. I found that I was saying "NO" continuously from before I woke up in the morning, to well past 9:00p.m. (no less than 5 or 6 phone calls per day---sometimes up to 10 times). I thank God for this new law. I never realized just how much of my time was taken up by telemarketers.

Rather that phone calls, many will have to resort to door-to-door soliciting. They still have to support their families. Telephone calls were simply a mutual convience to the salesman and the customer.

Hi, This is Tim in North Carolina. I am glad there is something being done about telemarketers. I am very upset at these people who constantly interupt the quietness and train of thought at my home. These people have become a neusiance to the American public and I would like to see these people put out of business permenantly. Telephones in the home are for personal and private business that is legal and should not be intruded upon by these telemarketers. Thanks, Tim in North Carolina.

This law is long overdue! The thirty million households that have signed up for this "do-not-call" list are households that wouldn't buy anything sold by telemarketers, anyway. I sure don't! So, the telemarketing industry should be glad that the definite no-sells have been weeded out, and the result should be more sales per number of calls made, saving them time and money. As for me, I hardly ever use my land-line phone any more. 99% of the incoming calls are telemarketers. Dontcall - Don't Call - Oh Please Don't Call. Thus, I am paying for a phone that is little more than an electronic trash-can. My cell phone is the one I use, and people to whom I wish to talk have that number; they know not to bother with the land line. It is a shame when people have to pay in order NOT to be bothered! It should be the other way around: companies should pay a retainer to people willing to be called!

You know, when the telemarketers start paying my phone bill, then maybe we can have sympathy. And at least they are trying to make a living. The problem is that I have a phone, that I pay for, for my convenience, to use when I want to and to receive calls from people I choose to do business with or my friends, or my relatives, or whomever I have given my number to. To receive calls from strangers (whether I am busy or not when they call) is invading my space, and my privacy. Betty King

I don't have it on all of my phones so I usually just let it ring 3 times before I pick up and most of the time that works -BUT I am still stopping whatever I am doing to do that. I hate it and I hate spam on the emails. In one day before I changed my email address I had 264 spams and 3 were emails from my friends -ridiculous. Good ridance to them all!!!!!!!!!! Telemarketers are becoming more and more dishonest. Recently the phone rang for the umpteenth time that day. The woman asked for my son who was not at home. I offered to take a phone number and message so he could return the call. She stated that she would "just try another time". I asked if she were a telemarketer to which she answered, "No." I asked if my son had "called" her company requesting the call to which she again stated "No." Then she elaborated stating that she was offering him the OPPORTUNITY to complete an application for a gold or platinum card! I informed her that I was sick of being lied to my telemarketers. SHE had the nerve to state that she didn't consider herself a telemarketer. I then heatedly, informed her that she was using the TELE - telephone to MARKET a product thereby making her a TELEMARKETER! When I informed her to remove both my son's name and phone number and to also remove my name and phone number, she tried to inform me that it would takes WEEKS to remove the numbers ant that I MIGHT receive more calls. When asked if she knew what the Federal law stated about calling someone after being informed NOT to call, she stated that she was required by her company to inform me it took WEEKS to remove. I told her immediately to tell HER SUPERVISOR that MY NUMBER have better be removed IMMEDIATELY and IF I were called again, I would see them in court for harassment. Why can't this industry understand that I will contact businesses WHEN I am interested in their products or services. I have stopped dealing with many companies that use telemarketing because of the harassment for the calls. I have even had calls at 1:00 AM. When asked if the man knew WHERE he was calling and WHAT time is was, he stated very casually "No, these calls are computer generated. I just talk when someone answers." The very nerve of these people! I say "NO MORE". I can post "No Trespassing" signs on my property to prevent door-to-door salesman (who are an endangered if not extinct species, thank goodness) but I am WRONG to try to prevent harassment from a telemarketer! NO WAY! Let's put an end to their rudeness, harassment, and repeated interruptions. Thank you, elected officials for finally listening to the voters. Nancy in VA

I am amused with some of the comments concerning telemarketers. I don't hear one word about the marketers using other media such as television, radio and newspapers. The number of phone calls I received were nothing compared to the onslaught of advertising in a typical tv program not to mention radio and newspaper ads. Think about it. If it was not for advertising, which is a part of any business' marketing strategy, you and I could not afford to have tv,newspapers or radio in our homes. It is advertising that pays for all of this. C. Hume Nampa, Idaho

Thanks for alerting everybody on this new and great law. The telephone company charges alot of money to have a phone in my house for what I want to use it for and it certainly isn't for the annoying calls from telemarketers. The CEO's are not concerned about laying off personnel. They are concerned about the drop in their big checks because they get the big bonus's and big monthly checks--not the personnel that have to do the calling. Rest asure they have never had to receive calls like we are subject to because they make sure their phone number can't be used by anyone. Maybe they should start receiving all the calls so as they can continue to employ these people they have to lay off.

I agree whole-heartedly with the no-call list! It just doesn't go far enough, because I still get "Charities" calling - most of them are not real charities at all! My state has already taken care of us and I am so glad. The calls stopped almost immediately. It was such a relief not to have the phone ringing all day and half the night. If you are wondering whether to sign up or not don't hesitate. You will never be sorry. You will celebrate. When my phone rings I know it is someone I know and will be so glad not to have to worry about it being one of the Spam telephone people. I agree with all the people that said they should do the same with the email SPAM people. Who will it take to get rid of them. If anyone knows I sure would like to know so I can tell all my friends about it. Some of the SPAM people put it up there so you can't even click them off. This is going too far. I should be able to delete anything I don't want. I am paying the bill and should have a say so about what shows up on my computer and be able to get rid of it when I want to. Would rather not have to have them disturb me while I am working my emails. They also make it tough to get rid of them. Some are nice and just give you something to click on to SAY NO MORE and some make it as difficult as possible. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how we can force them to give up? Thanks for letting me spout off about it on here. Usually I do my spouting to myself and that is not very satisfying. Thank you again and I love all your offerings that you have. I enjoy clicking in to see all the nice things you have to offer us. Really enjoy your recipes. I feel like you are friends of mine and I will sign off like I do with my other friends. LOVE - E

I totally agree with the rebuttal. I get so sick of answering the phone, only to have it be someone that is selling something. And they don't take no for an answer easily. I bought an easy hang up that I press the button and it tells them. And they can't get off the phone til the easy hang up is done. But, I still get a bunch. I am elderly and don't feel that I should be subjected to this.

For all of you who hate the telemarkters remember that those people who call you are only doing their jobs. And for some of us those jobs are the only ones "we" could get that pays over minimum wage. For some of us we don't like calling you and getting yelled at or yet cussed at.I for one don't like getting calls from telemarkters either. And its not the person on the other end of the phone who you should be mad at, it is the compainies that sold your name to what ever other company and now you are getting calls from me.... You see people complain about how many are on welfare, then you complain about telemarkters,, I am only doing a job that is paying me good money to support my family... So please remember the next time you get a call from a telemarkter we are only doing our jobs.. And for the lady who got called at 1:00 am that was not an up and up telemarkting firm we are only allowed to call from the hours of 9:00 am to 9:30 pm in any time zone... And yes our answers to some of your questions are vauge because we are reading to you what we have in front of us on the screen... And the national do not call list does not take effect till October the first and it only last 5 years. Am I proud that I am a telemarkter no not really but you know what? I am not on welfare, having you pay for me to sit at home doing nothing... So would YOU rather pay to be on welfare or get a annoying phone, that if you leave your answering machine on and screen calls you won't have to talk to me... And why do you answer the phone when you are eating dinner? Do I know that you just sat down? NO... So don't answer the phone.. And pushing the pound button does NOTHING expect makes us laugh... Do not try a loud whistle or horn because you can get arrested, you see when that happens I get my supervisor and they go and track your phone number then they call the police in your town and the police come to your door.. Because you could of just caused me to go deaf!!! And for those of you who have put your (childrens) names down... to get air miles...? don't yell at me when I ask for your 1 year old... You are the ones who put their name down in the first place,to get extra airmiles, and then that company sold your name to the creidt card company... So don't put your childrens names down to get a bonus of extra airmiles... You see I don't like being cussed at, I don't like being yelled at, I am only doing my job.. But you know what? it pays good, I get to work Monday-Friday, I sit on my butt in a good chair, in airconditing... Just please remember that the next time you pick up your phone and it is a telemarkter remember that he/she is working and you are not paying for them to be on welfare... And yes we have to keep talking, and we have to ask you at least twice about the card even if you say no... Because its a part of our job to do so,so we may keep our job. And even if you don't want to hear that toll free number we have to keep talking till we say it because their is quilty control listening to us and if we don't say it then again we get in trouble.... This job is very stressful I have to sell at least 3 cards or more a day, if I sell only 1 card that day they let it slide, but if I do that more then twice in one week then I get a write up, which means I am that much closer to the door and getting on welfare... I know you don't want the card after you tell me no, once but to keep my job I have to rebuttel...Thank you... Remember the next time the phone rings, the best thing to do is say hello and say no at least twice and hang up and we put down as a hang up early..which means not interasted. We can only use not interasted no more then 10 times a day.. If you answer and just hang up we put down that you were not avilable.. And you will get called back... Thank you.. I am only doing my job.. So please don't yell at me and please don't cuss me out, I am not the one who sold your name to a company who sold it again, and agian, and again... who sold it to this creidt card that I am trying to get you to take... IF you start calling the toll free numbers at the end of our little speech and ask them where they got your name and phone number from in the first place, and complain to them as to why they are selling your name. I say dontcall - Don't Call - Oh Please Don't Call. Thank you for listening.

I think one thing the telemarketeers seem to not understand is that the people who have registered on the do not call list had no intentions of purchasing anything from them. So how can they be losing money?? I had a friend who was a telemarketeer and he said they were trained to get three No's before they could hang up also on the third No they could offer a better deal to get people to buy. But as you know most people like me say No once and hang up!!! I heard now we will be flooded with mail advertisements even more. Someone said to open and mail back the envelope without buying anthing and they will be out the cost of extra postage... I am thankful for the do not call list and would also like to see spam email stopped...

This service is L-O-N-G overdue!!!!!! Count me amoung the grateful majority of people who feel this way!!! I received a call once, which I responded to with, "No Thank You," and then I hung up. The lady called me back to tell me I was rude--And she was the one who invaded my home via my telephone--?!?! I also agree with those who want to see some way to eliminate spam--I am so overwhelmed with ads talking about expanding my penis size--That would be a good trick, especially since I am a woman?!?!?!?! I also have no need to look at naked teenagers--I wish there was a way a private citizen could report this filth,so that the perpetrators could be prosecuted. Since we all pay for this service, it seems like we should be offered a way to control it. Thanks for allowing us to express ourselves!!!

Thank GOD this law is here,I know a lot of people will lose their jobs, but maybe GOD will help them find another one that is better. Thanks Marie from Va.

I listen for a minute to be certain the phone call is not coming from someone I need to listen to. Then, I lay the phone down on the desk go about my business and come back in 2 minutes to see if they are still there. Here's a story for You! I received a call from a business. I told them "No thank You" and then hung up. A few seconds later, my phone rang again. I answered it and the lady on the other end just said, " You don't have to be so rude, b-word!" Then she hung up. I immediately called the operator, to see if I could get the number of the last call, and was told that it wasn't possible. I was simply going to speak to the supervisor, to let them know what one of their employees had done. I know that I will never patronize THAT business now! I just wonder how many other people have been called names just for not accepting whatever they called to offer. I'm sure that ALL telemarketers are not THAT rude, but I am still uneasy about turning them down. You may ask, "Why do You answer them, then?" Some of them show up on Caller ID as "Private". I have family members who have unlisted phone numbers, which are also "Private". I am just glad that my daughter wasn't the one who answered the phone the second time it rang! Thank You for the DNC List!

For those of you who are getting calls on Sundays and those of you who are getting calls before 9:00 am on any given day and after 9:30pm in any time zone.. Those calls are illiegal!!!!! the 1981 TCPA law states that telemarktering firms can only call between those hours and never on a Sunday.. If you listen to what they are saying and ask for the toll-free NUMBER which by law they have to give you.. call and report it... And if you are getting these calls at all hours of the day and night they are probly not a legit company. Ever try to report them to the better business bureau?? even with the national do not call list being started which will not be used till October the first.. all you have to do is tell the telemarkter to remove your name from that list the one they are calling for, and they will read you a short statement and then your name is removed from that list.. But still listen for the 800 number if you have any questions about that call.... and do you realize that those of you who call catalogs, home shopping network, phone companies, that those people you are talking to are also considered telemarkters.. and again YOU give them all sorts of private information tooo... So YOUR name can be sold again.... It's not the telemarkters who are the problem, it is the companies who have sold your name time and time again. And then those compainies start their own companies who hire people to call you to boost their business...

Good thing we are putting millions of telemarketer out of work. We can just help pay for their welfare bill. Telemarketers really are bad. They interupt TV for the stay home moms. If they were doing chores they would be thankful for the break and an adult voice that they had authority over. Now they want to overload the Internet with their advertisement. So somebody dumped a bucket of worms in the computer world. Stamps have gone from three cents to 37 in my life time. No one sends Christmas Cards anymore. I think the gvt. should begin to set up a committe to see where doing away with all the new life lines will take us. We will need to re-invent the trails for Pony Express. That's solved Airplanes are too dangerous, blackouts on the subways, the heat is killing people, winter is coming and still no one to blame the blackouts on - for sure. And on and on.......... We better find a way to get to Iraq, that is the place to be. We are sending them everything we have. Our men, our money, our food, our clothing, our shoes. If you can't find work, join the Army. They will either kill ya or cure ya. amen Everything is out of hand, why pick on the telemarketers. Why not pick on Priest rapist. If a Baptist minister did such a thing he would go to court and then to jail. Why are they excempt from the law. I have heard of stripping for Jesus but raping for the glory of God? I think not either.... Ask a Priest why Gays are getting so wide spread, they started them out young. What a mouth....

I have the cure for telemarketing. When they call I let them talk for about 30 seconds. Then I make an excuse to put them on "hold" and come back on the line a few minutes later and let them talk a little more and ask them to "hold on for a minute (while I answer the door, change the baby's diaper, whatever works). I keep doing this as long as they will play along. Eventully they give up. What it does is makes their time per earned dollar ratio ($/hour) unprofitable. If the pay is too low they will go get respectable jobs.

Most of the calls are from Credit Cards, Vacation you have won No interest I know where I can find this services if I was interested, so why call people all you do is create a debt that people did not want in the first place. Stop calling the internet or can go to any bank and get credit card applications. I do need a vacation call as I can and know what I can and ready to go if I want to travel. I haven't added my number to the do not call list, yet. They are required to state their name and reason for the call immediately. I have never slammed up the receiver, but I promptly say not interested and hang up. At first I tried to sell them on Jesus, so to speak turn the tables on them, only to discover that the call itself was often on a machine as they didn't miss a beat or change the tone of their voice. I have two internet sales sites. Books/ Music/Software store isand the Womens Specialty shop site is . The income of which is to support an outreach into prisons to win souls as I send them a Birthday card on their Birthday regarding the new Birth and also testimony pages about my life. What amazes me is so often if I try to say I'm not interested in internet come on's I get a inability to deliver that message due to their being misused and/or fraudulent. Now I feel that my internet supplier is deleting many messages before they reach me.

I cannot believe that our governments, state and federal, are compassionate enough to rid us of the telemarketers. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. Without doubt our U S Supreme court will overturn any positive legislation which is for the good of the average hard working citizen. Surely we must be treading on the telemarketers rights or sume such foolishness. Common sense and the right to be left alone and not bothered have long ago been set aside for the so called rights of every fringe and weird thinking group so why would the telemarketers be treated differently.

I'm so thankful to be rid of the telemarketers.Sometimes a dozen a day .Sometimes wanting to talk to man of the house. Well,I would tell them to call the cemetery . Sometimes I'd ask them for their names ,addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers and they asked what I wanted to know that for.Of course they would give no information .I'd say what you calling me for and harressing me .I told them to never call this number again. When I'm ready to buy something I'll go to a local reputable dealer.

Now that the telemarketers are held at bay, we still get calls from our local businesses. SBC, the telephone company called me four time in five days, each time asking me to take long distance. I cut my long distance calling when I purchased a cell phone. I no longer needed long distance. They would not except NO for an answer. There should be a way to stop these people from harassing customers! Contributed by Betty Van Snepson

No more time wasted running to answer that ring to find it was only the DREADED TELEMARKETER. I THANK GOD for having someone that came up with this and implimented it. THANKS TO THAT PERSON(S), also.
